Note: I recommend buying this game on sale. I was so annoyed at how muddy the game was on what was happening, I didn't play it for two years.

This game sucks for the first two hours or so. Then it gets better. What you need to know is that the game runs on autosave, which activates in two situations: when you find a collectible, or when you exit a mini mission in the game. The problem here is that the game starts you out in a long mini mission, with no explanation. If you collect every stud the game offers in the first section, it will take you an hour to complete, before the game will save your progress. And you can revisit the mini mission's any time, so blast through the first one as quick as you please to.

It takes so long in part because there are things you can't do yet, that are character specific actions, so it will take you some time to figure out what you can and can't do. Once you get out of the mini mission and into the first part of the game, it starts to pick up. You can at any time go to Diagon Alley and purchase a spell from an empty storefront, or you can buy a character token in Madam Malkins, after the purchase the game will autosave.

Another note is that you can't fully complete any mini mission until almost the end of the game. With the exception of one, the most you can do is get the required number of studs to pass the level. You will have to replay every one once you get a dark magic character, a character with a key, and a strong character, all of which is wholy achieved near the end of the story line.

If you love Harry Potter AND are a completionist, this is a great game. The AI will get in your way every so often, and the levitation is pretty finicky, but the controls feel great. The game let's you run around any where you want when in story mode, and there is a ghost that profitably shows you where you need to go to progress the story, which is great at keeping you from getting lost, and is pretty necessary in a game that tells you nothing at all.

My complaints are that there is a message that will show up sparingly, telling you what you need to do, or what spell to use. So there is no excuse for it to not also tell you when you are near something you can't access yet. Also, if you try to interact with something, the character will shrug and display an icon, that usually makes no gorram sense. The text alert would be great to tell you what the hell the picture is. The game could be a lot more clear in those instances, but It's a reccomended waste of thirty hours. I snagged this game for five bucks two years ago, I think at the winter sale, so look for it then.

Much better than the first one in graphics, gameplay and the fact that it hasn't crashed once yet (apart from when I first loaded it). Bit annoying that the jinxes/curses are in the same bit as the Windgardium Leviosa charm section in the spell selection bit, in the first game they had their own bit. Only hope it means there's much more to come.

So far I've just completed the 5th year. Not gone any further as of yet.

LEGO Harry Potter is the online video game my wife will play with me. It is instantly one of my top games for that reason alone. On top of that, it is a funny game with lots to explore and do. At the end of the day "magicking the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything" makes for an excellent, zany experience.

I had so much fun with this game! I recommend this for Harry Potter fans only - as you won't understand what's happening if you haven't read the books and seen the movies. The puzzles can get tricky. I got badly stuck quite a few times, but my solution was always the same - destroy EVERYTHING. Maybe this is common idea with LEGO games? I'm not sure, because this is my first. Either way, I immensely enjoyed the artistic style of the world, the somewhat open-world layout, and the hilarious LEGO retelling of the stories. If we had stars to give, I'd give it 5.

Played Lego HP 1-4, and now finished the story here.

The game really improves on year 1-4. Everything is better now. From more special abilities, to better menus.
After finishing the story, you have to re-visit everything with new characters to find all the hidden stuff!
I really wish more games could be like Lego games.

Marvelous gameplay, charming graphics, excellent attention to details... Simply PERFECT!

For those who've played the Lego games, you will understand how to play. It is a bit of a challenge for kids to figure out as it's a problem solving kind of game. I love the uniqueness of the story lines in the Harry Potter series, as they try to not mimic the movies entirely, but create a totally new experience other than the basic plot. I reccommend for older kids and adult fans.

Highly unrealistic. There is no way Filch would not be highly displeased with Harry, Ron and Hermione being so destructive of Hogwarts property. They'd surely be given detentions.

Jokes aside, I really enjoyed the game. The keyboard configuration is a tad awkward, so I found this configuation to be more helpful: K - Tag; E - Special; R - Action; Space - Jump; 1 and 2 - Spell Switching

I didn't think I would enjoy playing this game because it says "Years 5-7" and I'm in my 20s right now, but I still had a real good time with it.

The second in the Lego harry potter series of game, encompasing the final films.

One of the major things that differs from the first game is the graphics. Both the lego and normal 3D environments have a much higher resolutiion and quality, in addition to the "magic" effect graphics. This coupled with some new gameplay challenges, like duelling, add lots more variety to this game.

Again, there is no voicing in this game, but it does expand the soundtrack to include music from the later films.

Another change worthy of note is that this game does not crash intermittently like the first lego hp game. It does however suffer from end-of-level saves only, which means that if the game bugs out somewhere [which it occasionally does] you'll have to restart the entire level.

If you played and liked the original HP lego game, then you'll definitely enjoy this one.
