The Showdown Effect
A Game that had great potential
The game has a very stylish art-style, that generally looks good. The only part of the games visuals I didn't enjoy was the characters, because they look like plastic. The game is succeeding to give you that 80's action feel, since they have their obligatory Terminator parody. I also need to point out that the menu literally looks like an 80's TV screen.
Showdown has an explosive action theme song that really pumps you up for the action, but sadly there is no song like that once you enter a round. The sound effects are fine, but it's mostly guns firing so there isn't much to say about that.
The voice-acting is very funny since they do have that bootleg Terminator, which creates some funny moments when playing the game.
The gameplay is fun and fast. It's a 8-player deathmatch game that lasts 5 minutes. Once you're done with those 5 minutes it transitions into a last man standing kind of thing (note: the last man standing is not the winner. The winner is the person with the highest amount of kills.) which changes the pacing slightly as you aren't all that willing to die.
There are some unlockable guns and characters, but you should be able to get everything by a couple of hours of gametime. I would've enjoyed more customization but they probably did this to keep the game balanced. All in all the gameplay is very enjoyable.
The DLC in Showdown is kinda useless. The reason for this is that they are reskins of weapons, or hats. I enjoy this alot since it keeps the game fair and balanced.
The game doesn't cost much and I enjoyed it very much, but the game is now dead. There is nobody online nowadays so just stay away from the game. It's a shame that the developers (spearhead studios, creators of Magicka.) updated the game once then left, and are now working on Magicka 2. Get Magicka 2 instead, you'll most likely have a better time there...
