About This Game

Set in a mysterious and abstract sterile environment, Q.U.B.E. (Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion) is a first-person puzzle game that challenges players to navigate each level by manipulating coloured cubes that surround them. There's little to go on as the game begins - the player is dropped into an all-white room with few instructions, and simply has to figure their way out. The tone of game changes as the player finds small and big alterations to their environment, supported by an original score, inviting each player to let their imagination take over as to where they might be. Through experimentation and discovery, players will progress through an ever-evolving series of cube puzzles that will challenge them with logic, physics, platforming.

As a competent, if short, Portal knock-off, the one thing QUBE has going for it is the atmosphere and the ending, which in its tasteful understatedness is quietly wonderful.

That said, if you haven't already, play Portal and Antichamber first and only get this if you're truly in need of a first-person puzzle game "fix".

I highly recommend this game. Very similar to old top-down block-pushing puzzle, only with a 3rd dimension. Fans of Portal will enjoy the well-crafted puzzles and simplistic style of this great FPPG.

This is basically a first-person puzzle-solving game. The character/you are in a maze-like series of rooms and you need to find your way out of each room and into the next. Your means of doing this are a pair of glove that allow you to (telekinetically?) manipulate your environment. The entire strucutre seems to be composed entirely of square blocks. Most of these are white and inert. However, a few are colored red, blue, yellow, green, and purplish pink. These colored blocks each have their own ability and can be manipulated from a distance using your gloves. For instance, yellow blocks form stairs, blue acts as a springboard, red forms ledges, etc. There are a few other tools/features you'll encounter along the way. Using what you find, you need to progress from room to room through the maze.
Anyhow, that's the gist of it. Overall, I thought it was a really fun game. Some of the puzzles are laughably easy while others are maddeningly difficult. Most of one level is dimly lit or even dark in places. Overcoming the challenges brings a sense of satisfaction, especially since the game doesn't give much in the way of tutorial...you, the player, just have to experiment and figure it out as you go. My only complaint was that the game is pretty short -- I finished the whole thing in about 5 hours. But judging by the many achievements I've yet to get, I'm sure I missed a lot on the first play through, so hopefully there will be decent replayability. Long story, short: It's a fun game, and definitely worth buying (especially if you can get it on sale or as part of a bundle or something). Enjoy.

This puzzle game is pretty damn good, and you should definitely give it a go. No questions asked. Unless you disliked portal for some reason that is.

Excellent simple puzzle game. No tricks or gimmicks in this one. The puzzles are straight forward and right in front of you but still a great challenge. The difficulty curve is a perfect gradual curve. Each puzzle is ever so slightly harder than the last and they all build off of eachother. Your brain will start hurting in the second half but you never feel like a puzzle is "IMPOSSIBLE!!!". All that with clean simplistic smooth visuals and sounds.

This was actually my second time playing through this game and it was just as enjoyable as the first. Though, some good amount of time had passed. I had forgotten nearly all the puzzle's exact solutions but also retained enough to make the playthrough far shorter than average. So don't pay attention to my short 3hr playtime as it isn't indicitive of the game's actual length. All that said, the base game doesn't really have any replay value beyond finding two hidden areas for imaginary achievements (though both hidden areas have their charm). I do not own the DLC that involves time trials of some sort so I can't speak to the value, replay value, and entertainment of that.

In all, the base game is a good mind workout that doesn't ever make you feel cheated. While lacking any immediate replay value it does present a challenge again years down the line. Recommended on sale or in a bundle for the best value.

Very creative and fun game. Never has pulling out blocks added simplicity and complexity to the game at the same time, while also adding new puzzles to keep it fresh. Great game.

7.5/10 Best Portal rip-off on the market

No seriously, it's worth a try. If you like 3D puzzle games, this one is pretty damn good. Puzzles are intricate yet visually appealing and the game offers a variety of mechanics to progress from one stage to the next. Backed by solid visuals, it makes for an enjoyable game, no doubt.

I really like this game. It uses the familiar first person shooter engine but instead turns it into a puzzle that you must have to solve in order to escape for your freedom.

On an off topic manner- The was also a movie called the Cube and the Cube 2 - It was about people escaping from a labyrinth and they had to solve puzzles in the room in order to escape their freedom - If they set off a trap in the room - they got killed.

None of this action is present in this game but I see the similarities somewhat......

Works great with Logitech F310 Gamepad in X Input mode with no additional configuration neccesary , controls are fine the way they are.

It's a different kind of puzzle game that's for sure but don't let it's generic atmosphere decieve you - if you buy this game and play the game, and progress in it , you will see the true beauty of this game.

A decent First Person Puzzler that is fairly straightforward and easy to breeze through in a sitting or two (3 Hours for me). It was an enjoyable experiece, lacking a story (which the Director's Cut adds at a price point of $10 for those who don't own QUBE) while being atmsopheric. I don't regret picking it up while discounted, but the main game was too light to satisfy me for the full price. The DLC (Aqainst the Qlock) adds a challenge mode heavily emphasising time trials, but the achievements hold clues to least qube moves made for a bit of added replay, but again it is too sparce to warrent the full price.

TL;DR = Easy Puzzle Game, Little Story and Mysterious, Very Short but Highly Enjoyable while playing. Get on Sale (Director's Cut has the DLC, an added story, and a new soundtrack)

The main thing that I like about Q.U.B.E is that you have to learn everything yourself. Once you figure it out, the puzzles aren't hard, just brain-teasing. I guess that's basically what the title means. It seems that anyone who is good at puzzles will be quick to understand the puzzles.

If you're a fan of puzzles, this is a great game for you.
When it comes to story, this game has not much to offer, unfortunately. It has also a lack of size, it takes about 3-4 hours to play through. But those hours are definitely worth it. The game offers content through the entire gametime.
If you want a quick perception of the game, imagine Portal without the characters, story or portals. It may sound like Q.U.B.E is a lot less of a game, but it is worth it.

If you're insecure, buy it on sale. Then it would definitely be worth the money.

Q.U.B.E. is a fairly competent puzzle/platform "Portal-like" that is let down by occasionally depending on a dreaded combination of both the programmed physics and RNG to be compliant. Hoping a certain block flips into the right configuration or that the timing on a certain impact was perfect is not good design.

It was when I finally reached a room that required me to move four blocks back and forth using toggle-enabled magnetised walls to get them into the right orientation to turn on four switches, that I sighed and let out an emphatic "♥♥♥♥ this ♥♥♥♥".

It's not a bad game but I haven't got the patience for the level of precision required especially when there is the potential for chaotic results. Not worth buying, especially with games such as Antichamber and Portal (1 & 2) about, but it's not the worst bundle fodder that could end up in your library.

BE AWARE, THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE ORIGINAL Q.U.B.E. IT HAS A DIRECTOR'S CUT NOW WHICH HAS A DIFFERENT SOUNDTRACK AND STORY!

QUBE is a good but not incredible puzzle experience. It's fun, it's not too stressful (none of the puzzles are timed or will kill you), it's got a good mostly ambient soundtrack, it's not too hard (there's a couple stumpers in there, but they're not too bad if you experiment a bit), and it has some nice visuals. Oh, and there's a few secrets you can hunt out in the game. Now, there's good and there's bad. The game focuses on the puzzles, and setting you up so you can work your way through them in a challenge of wits. The bad is that it lacks a story. The ending kind of explains what you were up to, but not really. Another downfall is that the game is short-lived. Yeah, it lasts a few hours and yeah it has time-trials to check out, but it still feels like there could have been more. One more downfall is that only the last 3 sectors (5-7) are really challenging. Sectors 1 and 2 are an absolute breeze. Sector 3 and 4 make you pay attention. Sectors 5-7 make you trully sit down and work at the puzzles. Finally, I feel like they actually should have fleshed out some of the areas better. Most areas don't seem to have much of a purpose.

So in conclusion, is it a game worth playing? I feel so. It's one of those things that wraps you in for a little while, and is a worthwhile experience, but not something with tons of replay value or background story to keep you vested in it past your playthrough. Still, I'm not a huge puzzle player, and this game made puzzling fun! 7/10

Q.U.B.E is a fun little indie game about moving square cubes around too finish a 'level area' after a few level areas are finished it will complete a sector, there are 9 sectors on the whole and each get progressevly harder, whilst I make this review i am onto the third sector and its taken me about 20-so minuets,so it shouldn't take long to finish the whole game.
Hope this helped :D-Poncho.

This clever game has the clean feel of Portal testing chambers, but has some very cool new mechanics never before seen in a puzzle game. I enjoyed the challenging levels and getting achivements, yet the ending was anticlimactic. I would recommend this to anyone who is a portal or puzzle game fan.
