About This Game

Containment: The Zombie Puzzler is an action puzzle game like you’ve never seen before. The goal of Containment is to surround zombies with survivors of the same color. But watch out for the zombies—they'll fight back by infecting the survivors in the street. Through the game's pulse-pounding campaign and multiple survival modes, you'll use your wits, items you find you along the way, and even the town around you to contain the zombie outbreak.

Key Features:

  • Not a Match 3 In Containment, you don’t match three of anything—you eliminate zombies by surrounding them with survivor tiles.
  • These Tiles are Alive Each tile is a fully animated character that interacts not just with its fellow survivors and zombies, but also with the environment.
  • Unique Storytelling There's no time for cutscenes or dialog boxes when the undead are trying to eat you—the story of Franklin County and its survivors is told through in-world text as you make your escape through what's left of the city.
  • Real-Time/Turn-Based Containment combines the cerebral strategy of a puzzle game with all the real-time action you'd expect from a zombie attack.
  • WMD’s Playing the game well rewards you with useful items that you can use against the zombie horde to devastating effect.
  • The Environment is Your Friend Franklin itself becomes a weapon as you knock over signs, power up heavy cranes, and roll cars over zombies.
  • Boss battles Yeah, that’s right. We even have boss battles. You haven’t seen zombies like these before.

Essentially it is a flash game, an enjoyable variant similar to the Candy Crush type game if you've ever played it, that will provide around 5-20 hours of fun. At its core its a puzzle game with strong elements of strategy.

The premise of the game is that you have to surround groups of zombies with the same type/coloured survivor to remove them from play. Survivors consist of the soldier, the policeman, the cheerleader and the thug, each providing a different voiceover when a group is cleared which is quite nicely done.

There is one 5 act/20 level campaign which should take you around 5 hours to complete. The learning curve is very well done which is good as there is only one difficulty setting.

A range of harder zombie types provide the bulk of the challenge is this game as you progress through the campaign. The simplistic gameplay is added to with environmental hazards that can kill off survivors or block more of them from coming through to reinforce the game board. Additionally you can have up to three power-ups to blast away groups of zombies when in a tight sequeeze. There are around 6/7 each individually adapted to provide a unique destructive effect when used.

There are three additional survival levels that you can play if you get hooked while the soundtrack is very basic.

If you are an achievement hunter it should take you between 14-20 hours in total to get the last one, as its a grinder!

Overall Id say the game does what it says in the store page. Its nothing special but it is enjoyable if you like this sort of game, as I have. If you are a hardcore game then this is probably not for you unless you like a dose of casual on the side!

Another zombie game, you're thinking? Well, no, not really. At least, not a TYPICAL zombie game by any means.

As the title states, it's a puzzler - no hybrid zombie shooter-♥♥♥-puzzler. Just a puzzler. So why the zombie inclusion? For the most part, it's not relevant really at all. It could be anything that takes the place of those zombies, but the important thing is it's a pretty good puzzler.

It's based on the "match 3" style of puzzle, and you start with a full grid of objects/zombies (a bit like Bejeweled) - and just like Bejeweled, once you clear a group, the spaces are refilled. That's about where similarities end.

Your basic aim is to clear the zombies on the board, and the way you clear a group is to surround them with a colour-coded group of your little guys, doing their utmost against the contagion (go little guys!) As the game progresses, slight variations and hurdles are introduced to up the ante. Difficulty is kept nicely linear, and paced just right. I could go into deeper description of these hurdles, but I think doing so would rather spoil it for you. There's not much else to say about the mechanics - it does what it should rather well indeed.

The levels are tied together in a "story mode" format, and to be frank, the story is pretty rubbish, and terribly amateurly written. However, as this is in the form of text on-screen, there's no awful voice acting to listen to, and it skims along quickly enough, so that you soon progress onto the next level with a minimal of fuss. In short, you can easily ignore it, and it impacts the game in no other way than this.

So, even if you've completely had your fill of the over-used zombie craze, this is a worthy purchase, especially if "matching" puzzles are your thing. I picked it up in an indie bundle and was pleasantly surprised - so much so that I replayed it as soon as I'd finished the story mode. It's not exactly very graphically intensive either, so a moderate/low PC should run it capably too.

All in all a pleasant little puzzler that very much does it's own slant on a formula, and well worth the purchase. As always my metric is price, and I'd say this is worth a good £6-7. If you aren't so into puzzles, then I'd still recommend it, although you should adjust the price accordingly.

This game looked like another case (or victim?) of the zombie fad. However I was always intrested in this title, as it's openly stated that it's a puzzle game. A zombie puzzler game. This is either really meh (zombies instead of coloured blocks) or pure ♥♥♥♥ (because noways you can sell anything, that has zombies) or something original. For me, it turned out to be the third option.
The game itself is really simple. It's kind of a falling-block game, but instead of the most usual match-3 system you need to surround a group of zombies with similar "coloured" units (Policemen, armymen, vandals or scientists) and depending on the size of the zombie group, you can get a bonus unique to the faction you used to contain the zombie group.
It's very possible that this isn't the first game with this mechanic, yet it was new for me. Some additional mechanisms actually contributes to the "zombie game" feeling. Sometimes zombies charge your group, turning people on the borders to zombies. The zombies are alive, and will attack neighbouring humans and turn them. And with this, we reached the most intresting part of the game. Imagine the situation: you try to surround a group of Zeds with policemen, and another group with vandals. However you're unlucky, and both groups attack two people who are neighbours - and the two hordes became one - but you possibly don't have enough character of the same type to surround them. You'll either lose, or you should kill smaller groups in the hope of bonuses (like molotov cocktail) to divide the big horde into smaller, managable sizes. This threat is kinda non-existant at early levels, but at middle-late campaign you should be very wary about how do you deal with Z groups fastly and efficiently.
A small list about the game's different aspects:
Game mechanism: traditional puzzle's mechanics (2-hit blocks and 1-colour-only blocks as well appear) with reasonable and well executed zombie mechanism
Game graphics: well, nothing intresting. I won't rate this with numbers, it's just average - nothing too ugly now nothing exceptional to an indie puzzler game. You won't have trouble identifying anything on the screen.
Game music: If I remember well this was actually really good, atmospheric zombie-music. However I think it's quite short, becomes repetitive after a while (played and finished the game a few weeks ago, please forgive me for my leaky memory)
Addtitional note: Campaign is quite good. Starts easy, becames harder as new enemies are introduced. It's learning curve is very reasonable, only bossfights can be difficult for the first few tries. I also have to mention the campaign's narration - it's visible on the road as you move from board to board - it's really well written, gives quite an atmosphere :)
As the game's base price is low, and also usually appears in bundles, I do recommend it. Gives a lot of fun for low price if you enjoy puzzler games.

Bought this game as part of the humble bundle, i didn't expect much and the video didn't get me that excited, i thought it might be worth a try though so downloaded it and gave it a go.

Unfortunately i became hooked right away and managed to complete the 'campaign' in just over 3 hours, i was addicted, the story line added humour to an already quirky little game, and was a nice way to move through the puzzles, it was better than just watching loading screens. The game is quite short, but towards the end some of the levels felt a bit repetitive, although a few levels had more than just killing zombies to them which was a nice change.

Theres only one thing i'd want to add to this game, and thats some form of scoring system, theres no way to rate how well you did in each level, only a simple pass or fail, which is just a case of restarting the level again. But it didn't really dampen my game play,

I'd recommend this game to anyone who fancies a fun and slightly more up beat puzzle game, it's not the sort of relaxing puzzle game i usually go for, and i did get a bit frustrated where as most puzzle games i play just to wind down and relax.
Great game, just sad it's over!

I bought this because it was a puzzle game and wanted something a little different.

Playing it I was unsure what to expect. Some indie titles at times add zombies following the age old notion of,
"if you want to make a game cooler and hip add Zombies!"

So it is with alot of surprise that i wish to say the use of them in this game is absolutely brilliant. The game looks to be a typical Unity style build (I could be wrong on that developer i would hope would let me know). The graphics are pretty clean and by default it first launched in a window mode.

However, that is not really a negative for this game. Its easily playable and the fact that the zombies will attack your people when they stand to long in a single place means you need a little strategy as you move to defeat them or the horde just continues to grow.

This is an extremely good Puzzle Game and my one complaint is that I do not have it on my iPhone 6.

With the price cuts and sales I would recommend to everyone...
Buy this game!

It's a really fun game, works on any system, the rules are pretty simple. Is a little bit too easy, but the achievements are pretty good. But still, 5$ is too much, maybe 3. Get it on sale. But worth playing.

This is a bog standard cascading block puzzle with a perplexing zombie skin. I really don't know why they decided on this design choice, it really makes no sense... I guess the meeting went something like "What do people like? Popcap and zombies. We're done here, have alpha on my desk by friday". At first glance I really can't tell what kind of skill is needed, since you can swap coloured tiles from any distance, and grey blocks (zombies) seem to spawn on a timer, rather than as a turn based action, making the early game more of a "how fast can i swap blocks" type of game. Maybe it gets harder, who knows? I sure dont, because the first 10 minutes did not sell me in the slightest. Give it a go if you like block puzzles, I guess...

i am not a big fan of puzzles, but i decided to buy this against my better judgement. and buy this game As i turns out MY JUDGEMENT SUCKS ♥♥♥! Cause this a very good game!
(do not expect a lot of hours, its after all very cheap, with that said if you need to "kill" most of a day or just like to play a game a bit at a time this is ideal)
so for the price (which is 5 euro´s while im writing this) 9/10

Containment is interesting and sort of unique, but has one fatal flaw. It gets old really fast. I mean, it's just so excessively mediocre. Like there's nothing bad I could really say about it, but nothing that I really liked either. It's just... meh.

I got it from a humble bundle so I didn't spend a ton of money on it, but I still get annoyed by it taking up space in my library.

This is Bejeweled with some slightly different mechanics and low-poly bandwagon-jumping zombie models. I cannot recommend purchasing a game that looks like a hastily-ported iOS/Android restroom time waster.

Decent little puzzler with an amusing bit of tale-telling to it. Not just the usual match 3 , the mechanic is baout creating barriers of matching pieces. There are a good few item drops, which you keep between levels, adding to the tactical depth. Also there are a lot of environmental elements which you (or the enemy) can use. Theer are not too many levels, and each one seems to have been carefully hand-crafted, rather than just thrown together randomly. If you like puzzles, get it at 50% off, or cheaper.
