A True Free-to-Play Game
No DLCs
No Ingame shops
No packs to buy
No unlockables
All weapons and equipment are available for everyone right from the start!

America's Army: Proving Grounds is a multiplayer only FPS (First-Person Shooter).
The community is friendly, helpful and values teamwork. I've played CS, Battlefield, CoD, Insurgency, Unreal, Homefront, Medal of Honor...You name it! I've played pretty much every competitive FPS out there!
Basically i have tons of experience when it comes to multiplayer gaming and this little hidden gem is my most played multiplayer shooter in the past 2 or 3 years.
The reason ? It's well balanced, the community is friendly and people ALWAYS use the ingame voice chat for teamwork!
It's truelly amazing!

How do they manage to keep the game well balanced ? It's quite simple really. The game only has 5 primary weapons: 2 assault rifles (fully automatic and a burst-fire one. Both can be switched to single fire aswell), a sniper rifle, a shotgun and an LMG. All these weapons are available since the very beginning so a rank 30 player has the same weapons as a rank 1 player. The only advantage a higher ranking player can have is the knowledge of map layouts.
You also have a sidearm which is just a pistol but it can come real handy.
You also get one frag grenade and can choose between 2 fog, smoke or flash grenades. Also available from rank 1.

You do gain XP (experience points) with each kill, secure, revive and round/match won or lost and gaining XP helps you rank (level) up. The thing is that ranking up gives you nothing. No new weapons, no new equipment, health bonus, scopes or camos. Ranks only show how much a player has been playing the game. Nothing more.

You start each round with 100% of hp and 1 life. Once you get "killed" you cannot respawn untill a teammate revives you. If an enemy player gets to your body first he can secure you and your teammates cannot revive you anymore. In that case you have to wait untill the end of the round to get back into the fight.
Headshots are an instant kill and you cannot be revived from those. Once you get shot you start bleeding out so you have to bandage yourself to stop the bleeding or you may die or just lose a lot of hp (health points).

There are 2 modes: Normal and Hardcore.
Normal mode: You can spot enemies, use the minimap, teammates have blue names on their heads and you can see downed teammates. In the normal mode you can also see a yellow text that says you killed an enemy. This is disabled in the hardcore mode.
Hardcore mode: There's no spotting enemies, minimap can be disabled or just doesn't show you enemies in certain distance (depending on the server settings), teammates don't have blue names on their heads so you have to be extra careful or you might teamkill your mates and shots are obviously more lethal.

The character movement is similar to CoD and newer BF titles. A lot of people complain about that but let us be honest here: This character movement is way more realistic than the clunky movement in AA2 or BF2. Everything about CoD is not bad. CoD has great and smooth character movement and i'm happy to see that it finally came to AA and BF.
A lot of people say that it makes the game "CoDlike" but this is simply not true. It's still more strategic and requires more teamwork. Does bleeding out, reviving, securing and no respawns say CoD to you ? Yeah, didn't think so. It's not "CoDlike".

There's no reason not to try the game. It's free!
When in doubt...Just give it a try!

No 12 year-olds squeaking about my mom and calling me a hacker.

0/10 horrible
--
But really, in all honesty, I enjoy this game so much it's ridiculous. At first, I charged into battle like a madman, and got rekt like a marshmellow under an elephant. Then, I stayed back at spawn and got chewed out for being a coward. Finally, I stuck with the team, and did what they said, while doing my best to help them as well.

t;dr
This is a strategic FPS game, and a pretty dang good one for being entirely free.

Very ver fun game if you enjoy a tactical shooter.

Pros:
-It is a get good or die a lot game (People can put this in 'Cons' I think it makes the game better)
-Great graphics (I am not saying it is the best don't get me wrong)
-Play the entire game without spending a penny (Or what your currency is)
-In game voice chat
-Need to play more as a team to win
-Fun with friends who enjoy the type of game

Cons:
-Graphics can lag even on higher gaming riggs
-When you start out you will find you suck... A lot (I said this was good but it can be bad as well)
-If the team doesn't play as a team you can find yourself losing games very fast

I will say that the game has better graphics than expected and is very fun to play with people who also enjoy team-based games. The lag in graphics can get annoying (even a decent gaming rig,) but that is only on some maps while maps like 'Hospital' don't suffer from the issue.

After over 300 hours on this game I feel it is time I write a review. This game is down right awesome. The maps are perfect sized for the amount of people in each game and with only 6 guns to overall choose from, you don't have to worry about overpowered weapons. The community is very tiny, but that can be kind of cool. I play with a lot of the same people day to day and it's kinda cool seeing gamers you have played with before pop in a game you are playing. As far as hackers go, I don't notice a real problem. Every PC game will have it's share of hackers so I won't say they don't exsist. It just really isn't a problem in this game. If you install this game and suck, don't sweat it. Just throw everything you have learned from COD out the window. Put yourself in the shoes of your character, and play smart. That's pretty much all you need to stay alive and get some kills. What I love the MOST about this game is you never pay for a single thing. There isn't even an option to DONATE if you want. Everything is 100% totally free. And you get the complete game. That, combined with the fact that this game is EXTREMELY playable makes this one of my favorite games of all time.

TLDR; In a world where "free" never means free. We finally get a game that is 100% FREE. AND 100% PLAYABLE.

I recomend this game because it is just plain fun! Here are the stats:

PROS:
- NOT Pay2Win
- $0.00 (Aka: FREE)
- The community and players are nice when in a match (No screaming in mics, no swearing for the most part, and players actually work together, yes people... we finally have a game that teammates help other teammates!
- Hardly any Trolls
- You can pick your loadout so it fits your standards (Attatchments, grenades, class, etc.)
- Easy controls
- Hardly lags (depending on the server you join)

CONS:
- You die way to quickly in my opinion (probably just the lag when I get shot at)
- A limit to the number of loadouts (ie: There can only be 1 sniper, 2 Marksman, 2 Support Gunners, and 12 Riflemen)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall, a pretty good game, I mean, it's free! Who can complain about that?

8.5/10

This is a very realistic and fun game. THe community is very tactical, although not as forgiving if you accidentally team kill or miscalculate where a grenade will bounce(Pro tip: Grenades dont roll and bounce as much as in games such as BF or COD, so dont expect a grenade to ricochet of every wall.) The game is much more interesting if you have a microphone to communicate, and there are plenty clans out there to play with. Definetly a recommended.

Ignore bad reviews. This game started my Steam life and encouraged me to continue into other FPS games. This game is balanced meaning that it has nothing to do with money and its not like you can buy a special gold gun for $5.99 and kill everyone like Tactical Intervention. If someone has a shotgun you can have one.If someone has a M4A1 Carbine then you can have one. The coolest thing is it was made my the Military and is a real FPS experience. Nothing wrong to the game that I know.

This is a great game. Why?
1) No cash shop ♥♥♥♥: u start out with no disadvantages compared to high levels. Because its totally funded by US Army
2) You can carry 2 primary weapons (eg. Sniper Rifle & M4A1) if u pick 1 up from a dead friendly/enemy
3) Good Graphics, not much lag for me. Havent encounter any bugs yet
4) Community is great. In-game voice chat used all the time. I just joined 2 random servers and I have already found great teammates that I want to play with again.
5) Gives me the feeling of the old Counterstrike, 1 precious life per match: only difference is no money needed to buy guns (u choose them as standard issue). Friendly Fire is on. After u are dead u can spectate thru teammate eyes, but u may be revive by any other friendly (So its means when u are down, u still have a chance to get back into the game, as long as u are not dealt the "killing blow" by the enemy, in which case is the enemy cable-tying u)
6) It's frickin free: I really cant think of any reason why u would not want to try this, other than your hard disk ran out of space, or your specs aint good enough.

This game is truly amazing. My recruiter Sgt Harrison in slidell louisiana for the air force told me about this game. Was never an army branch person due to they recruit literally anyone and your asvab score just has to be 26.

REVIEW OF THE GAME
The game is all about being tactical. If you get shot anywhere lower than the head your teammate will be able to heal you. If you get shot in the head you will no longer be able to get healed. Everyone i have played with are in MIlitary most of who i played with are Marines and Air Force. Game gets updated with amazing updates almost every month. Cool thing about the developers is that its run by the army and they use these types of games for simulations.

CON
Needs more weapons

If there was a "neutral" review level, that's what this review would be.

I'm a fan of non-respawn military shooters, and this is a reasonably functional, free-to-play one. So, if that alone is enough for you, this game might be of interest. It's *almost* enough for me.

If you've played America's Army before, then you may understand what I mean when I call this America's Army Lite. Realism has taken a bit of a back seat in favor of a faster pace. It's closer to the Counterstrike side of things, which is a disappointment for anyone that liked the earlier games. Faster movement, tighter quarters, DOOM-style health percentage (down to 1% health? Put a bandage on it!), etc.

Unfortunately, neither the gunplay nor the map design are up to snuff for this new direction. The shooting is pretty bog standard mediocre military FPS fare, and the maps are fairly uninspired and forgettable.

The game retains just enough of its former self to prevent it from truly being a mass-appeal shooter, but sheds so much of it as to no longer appeal to the niche market it once served. It's still in beta, so things can change, but it's in a pretty bad no-man's land right now.

CONTRA:

- Not the most modern graphics ( I think it is a good graphic and ejoyable but not to compare to the graphic in like Battlefield or Arma ).

- Not a lot of weapons to chose ( It's literally the standard U.S Army equipment you can use, like M4,M16,M9,M249 and some more ).

- No blood ( There is no option to see blood or cruel wounds in this game ).

- Not as demanding as America's army 1 and 2 ( It is tactical easier and to heal or revive a mate you just need to press a button and don't have to go for the medical treatment as in AA1 and 2).

- Effects are real but not on simulator level.

PRO:

- Weapons have a " real " effect on you and your enemies ( which literally means a grenade actually has a splinter effect of like 40 - 60 meters and CAN kill in this radius .

- The speed of movement is real ! ( Bunny hopping like in Counter strike or quick unrealistic runs as in CoD are not possible as they are not in real life ).

- Game is not to compare to Battlefield or CoD as I would count the game as a SIMULATOR not as a game ( even if Proving Grounds is more " game like " than AA1 and AA2.

- Maps are build very tactical ( You can play this " game " on a very tactical level as the maps are offering many options to hide, crouch and peep ).

- Weapons are realistic on every level ( Sounds, models, effects, are totally real and weapons also can jam as in real life ).

- MELEE attack is pretty nice and impressing as it is a nice and effective move to bring down your enemy.

- Developers are always there to make the game better and remove bugs.

- I can't think of any existing bugs, which is very positive as I have an eye for bugs and when I can't think of any bugs the game is pretty GOOD.

Who I would recommend playing this " game " / simulator: Well, everyone who want's a real simulator should go for America's Army 1 or America's Army 2. Everyone who want's a simulator with a bit less " difficult " gameplay should go for this version of America's Army! I would recommend it to everyone who likes a challenge in a FPS game, it is not as complex as it's previous versions but it is still challenging but more on reflex and quick thinking level as it is close quarter combat you need to act quick and thought through! If you want to sprint through the map and kill your enemies with a LMG as you do in CS or COD, you are lost ! If you want to kill your enemies from a nice angle/position or just flank and engage your enemy in a cruel firefight you are on the right adress and should definitely play this game.

WARNING: America's Army: Proving Grounds is still a beta and is also not as difficult as AA1 and AA2 ..BUT it still need a couple more matches than other games to get comfortable in this game. If you want to be successful try to play a couple of matches using your sidearm which is a M9 pistol ONLY, you will see you can take most enemies down with your sidearm pretty quick and effective.
