UMM Competition: And The Winner Is Overload!

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the UMM Competition is Overload!

Congratulations Drecks on a job well done! Drecks was able to create a map that plays well and provides a strong visual style. The map fits AA: PG both visually and thematically, allowing us to easily incorporate it in to the game.

UMM Competition - MCHammer Interview

Creator of Industry, MCHammer, was kind enough to respond to our interview questions. Read what he has to say about the Mission Editor and his experience building his Top Three map.

AAPG: Tell us a bit about yourself!

MCHammer: I'm a guy! (you said only a bit)!

AAPG: How long have you been playing America’s Army?

MCHammer: I started playing AA a year ago back in November. Before that I played the Call Of Duty games 1,UO, 2 & 4 (anything after CoD4 is just console trash).

About the Game

Do you have what it takes to train like a U.S. Army Soldier?

America’s Army: Proving Grounds is the official game of the U.S. Army and part of the highly acclaimed America’s Army game series. This free military game focuses on small unit tactical maneuvers and puts you to the test in new America’s Army maps as well as AA fan favorites Hospital and Bridge.

Take on the role of an 11B Infantryman practicing combat maneuvers at JTC Griffin, a fabricated training MOUT (military operations on urban terrain) environment. This training is crucial to your success as part of a Long Range Combined Arms – Recon (LRCA-R) unit, a full spectrum capable team that embarks on special operations missions behind enemy lines.

Key Features

  • Two Game Modes
Experience fast-paced Battledrill Exercises (BDX) (6v6) that focus on small unit maneuvers. As you learn how the enemy might react, adjust your strategy for future engagements
Forward Line Operations (FLO) (12v12) test your skills in a larger environment
Hardcore mode has increased weapon damage and a reduced HUD

  • 5 Mission Types
Activate - Activate all the objectives
Extract - Extract the objective to the rally point
C4 - Plant the C4 at one of the bomb sites and defend it until it explodes
Destroy - Arm the objective and defend it until it detonates
Take and Hold - Activate all the objectives and prevent the enemy from activating objectives you control

  • You are a U.S. Army Soldier
Weapons - M4A1 Assault Rifle, M16A4 Assault Rifle, M249 Saw, M14EBR-RI, M24 Sniper Weapon System, Remington 870 MCS, and M9A1 Pistol
Grenades - M67 Fragmentation Grenade, M83 Smoke Grenade, M106 Fast Obscurant Grenade and M84 Stun Grenade
Optics - M68 Close Combat Optic, M553 Holographic Weapon Sight, M150 ACOG 4x Optic, Elcan M145, Leupold Mk4 and Ghost Ring Sight
Supported Fire allows you to rest your weapon on obstacles to reduce recoil
Bullets do instant and bleed damage, bandage yourself to stop the bleeding

  • Teamwork is Critical
Spotting enemies gives your teammates greater situational awareness
Reviving your down buddies gets them back in the fight
Securing enemies prevents them from being revived and communicating with their team
Report your location and status to your team
Suppression affects your enemy even if you don’t hit them. Use the M249 to control firing lanes and keep the enemy’s head down while your team flanks their position

  • Train in Shoot Houses
Shoot Houses give you a place to learn how to use all the weapons in a single-player environment. They are fast-paced exercises that allow you to compete for the highest score
Create your own shoot houses in the Mission Editor

Mission Editor

Create your own missions and shoot houses with the AA:PG Mission Editor
Share them on the Steam Workshop
View the Tutorial at http://aapg.americasarmy.com/editor/tutorial
As your skills with the Mission Editor increase, you can move to the Advanced Editor
*The Mission Editor and Advanced Editor are developer tools that require more advanced hardware than what is required to run the game. Performance may vary.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

-Good graphics (enough for a fps game)
-Very realistic compared to every other fps games i've played!
-One of the best communities I've seen
-It's so much teamwork! The voice chat is being used all the time!

Okay, here's the bad stuff.

-You have to make an account in-game...

This game was just great back in the first months of OpenBeta. But after random updates, it has fallen for the worse. A year in a half i have been playing this AAPG and i now speak fluent Brazilian Portuguese. Instead of having a Brazilian Server, us NA players have yet to share servers with hardcore laggers (From South America, 0f course). Even the ♥♥♥♥ing optimaztion of the game is horrible. Like i cant even play on 64Bit. I used to be able to switch from 32 to 64Bit but they took that away. After every single update my settings get reset to default for some odd reason ( this is the ONLY game that i have that does this.) Every new update, the DEVS tamper with the gun recoil. Like wtf. And what killed me the most was when they removed the ACOG sight from the M4 ( No Honor).
Punkbuster sucks balls , i cant even use a macro mouse for this game. The Devs keep ignoring my emails. Only 1 guy answers. Fail Competions.(Hax have been confirmed)
When i played this game , it took my life away. Now after every update, i am slowly coming back to my social life.

5/10 Would not buy again. Even if it is Free. #rekt
10/10 better than Rosseta Stone

This has to be the best Free FPS on Steam without a doubt, recommend this to anyone who likes shooters. Although this is more tactical than most.

Love the combat, love the maps and even the graphics are pretty decent for a free game.

10/10 from me just for the cardboard cars and fish alone.

I've been around AA since 2004 on version 2, great shooter yet a real combat simulator backed by the real US Army.
Cool environment to make freinds and meet real soldiers.

If youre searching for what AA has originally been about, go play the first game, if you'd like to play small unit "tactical" maneuvers, that dont make want to kill yourself because you cant get used to the controls and complexity, this might intresst you.

Neat F2P game that really is F2P, but this has very little to do with the old Americas Army

Being a veteran of AA version 2.3, I was skeptical to play this newest iteration. Version 2.8.5 sucks, and so did 3.0. This was a pleasant surprise to me! The movement is fast and fluidic, the graphics do not stink, and the audio is good. What more could you want from a free game?

Reviews, not generally somthing I would take the time to do but for this game and because it's in Beta I have decided to take the time.

Pros:
1. Decent graphics: I know it's still in beta but if the graphics are as good as they are now they'll most likely be better in full release.
2. PC Specs: I don't have an amazing PC, I think I got about 10-20FPS while playing so if you have a "Decent" PC you should be able to play.
3. Gameplay: Good concept, good exucution.

Cons:
1. The maps or at least Inner Hospital are pretty big. I understand that, that may be a good thing but I felt it had to many twist and turns.

All in all this game is good for being in beta and I encourage you too give it a try.

Fast paced FREE shooter, good community, overall a good game. Sometimes the hit boxes can be a bit wonky but other than that 7/10

-FGH-Clan supports this game,it has come a long way and is still advancing, great FPS that involves teamwork, skill and not just a run and gun game or a stand alone Rambo, like so many other FPS out there. If you want as close to reality as your going to get in a game this is it.
Checkout us out at www.FGH-Clan.com if you want to join us for some fun games on AA:PG,we host our own server and TS as well.

This game is AMAZING!!.
+
First off ill start by saying i am not a fan of F2P at all!!. I hate most free to play games simply because of their in game money shop(pay2win) or the amount of cheaters that you put up with in F2P FPS games.

This game however has NO pay2win at all and has punkbuster AND Vac protection which is why this company gets my respect!.(Also Spectator mode for admins and casual players and a vote system)
+
The feel and movement is totally amazing!. Its far from sluggish and is very sharp, something id expect from a EA or Valve FPS game not the U.S Army :/. Sluggish movement and unresponsive controls can easily make or break an FPS for me but this is spot on.
+
The Community in this game seems great. I played for a few hours on a AUS server(another plus!) and played with mostly older males and females who i could really get along with, None of this come 1v1 me on RUST bro ♥♥♥♥!.
+
To compare this to any games i would say its tactical like Rainbow six(alot of leaning in and out of cover). The sniping is much like Ghost Recon Phantoms(lean and shoot with optics that are like an acog scope) and the gameplay runs like a game of CS GO where everyone is communicating and trying to defend the bomb site or attacking it, once you die you can only spec your team mates till the round is over unless you get revived by friendly! (smart use of Flashbangs and smoke is a must because of the quick deaths).

This game for a beta is ♥♥♥♥ing brilliant! I cant even really believe it is a beta tbh. I can see a big competitive side to this game and just knowing that they are adding Fan made maps to their game and have VAC AND Punkbuster enabled really tells me they care for their gamers!. If you like any of the games i compared it to try this game, Its well worth it. Its free so try it anyway :D

Rep+1 to the devs behind this at the U.S Army :). Salute!

Although fun, new, different, I don't think I liked this as much as AA3.
I praised AA3 for it's unique, tatical gameplay, but it seems like it evolved into Call of Duty
Yes, it's still fun, has some of the traits from AA3, such as the leaning, but the general interface and gameplay is too much alike big name FPS's, like Call of Duty or Battlefield. I just can't like this game; it changed too much

Good luck with the 9 year-olds, guys.
