GAH..

This is a game that has SOOOOOO much potential to be freaking awesome. And it turns out dull as dish water.

I'm glad I got it in a Humble Bundle Bandai package, as it cost me pennies. Really glad I didn't fork out £20. I'd be properly hacked off.

Speaking of pennies, that's how much has been spent on this. At least that's how it feels.

In the 30 odd minutes I've played, there's been plenty of Co-op stuff to do (awaiting on AI is such joy!), no shooting baddies, just duct covers, questionable animation and character graphics and some competely staid voice acting.

If you really want to buy it, wait until it's cheap as chips. And I mean under a quid.

I'll probably play this as a game to waste time on, not get really involved in, which is a shame really. It could of been bloody awesome.

Im sorry to see the star trek franchise go the way that it has gone, It seems that us older star trek fans seem to be left out of the loop as to what the idea for the franchise is, Even as the years go by I can see the differences, its as if the entire thing has become so exclusive that there is no possible way for a real human being to enjoy the series, It has the characters but it hasnt got the feel like your a part of it, its more like its far far away from having any emotion, almost as kolanar had compleated its corse, and left us with a machine so advanced that our enitre planet forgot to care about it, and went to sleep, waiting to some day be rescued by a crew of a small starship, and set back on our normal corse of human evolution. However gameplay is ok, grapics ok, ship dynamics, Not recomended, Charactors, ok, its all ok. Phasers that can melt rocks, double as escape devices, make cool sounds, and generaly be a laser, not great, but ok. its more like a spit wad shooter that well it works, but barely. Has our understanding of the galexy really gotten smalller, or are we just not pushing forward anymore.

Alright, I just can't anymore.

You know how movie tie in games are usually pretty bad, cookie cutter filler that was rushed and are slightly broken vessels with empty promises. Well, this game is no exception. It likes to fool you with seemingly high production value (the really bad part is that this game probably did cost a lot to actually make) and while it does evoke Triple AAA cover based shooter it inevitably falls on its face in practice.
I ASSURE you, the Kobayashi Maru was not executed here.

Shooting itself feels fine, there is feedback to let you know when the guns are actually making contact. There is even some stealth and non lethal options available. Buts its all tedious and feels just slightly off enough to let you know that something is wrong. The game is built around the idea of co-op between Kirk and Spock. With some proper banter betwixt the two. Nuance and subtlety is a foreign concept for the Vulcan while Kirk is a self righteous arrogant ♥♥♥♥. I brought lube. Somebody is going to get mad, somebody always gets mad. (Picard fan here)

The game is riddled with clumsy animations and poor level design, most of the time even when using the tricorder's waypoints and objective details I was unable to properly discern what exactly it was I was supposed to be doing or even where it was that I was supposed to be doing it. Whatever IT was.

Almost every single objective has you doing some overused and tedious hacking mini-game that is more of a nuisance than clever or challenging.

If you've any love for star trek or space exploration in general then just stay away from this game. Go play FTL.

I only recommend this game if you want to play coop.
I played it with my friend. We are huge Star trek fans, and liked the game. The story is more Trekish than the two new movies, it's just like an episode from the old series.
Sadly the game itself can't grow up to it's potential. It's filled with bugs and cheap game mechanics. The character updates doesn't matter and the collectible items are irrelevant.

If you and one of your friend loves Star trek and can laugh together at the game weaknesses, when you both looking forward to a pleasurable 10+ hours.
