So i just finished it (about 10 hours solo, not co-op). It's not a bad game, quite fun actually, although still quite buggy - or i guess unfinished is more appropriate as it came out 2 years ago and i guess has been abandoned. Especially after just playing the new tomb raider! I mean wow the end result is like night and day between these two games! sadly i feel this star trek game may have just been a pay check for the developers, or maybe the tomb raider creators are just really really good at their job. maybe a mix of both :)
It does have some very redeeming qualities - voice acting, tricorder use and the storyline overall imo is fun and not convoluted (unlike the new movies!).
Using the tricorder to hack cameras and sentry turrets (using mini puzzle games), as well as the ability to sabotage enemy guns & grenades through upgrades) was great fun, and reminded me of system shock 2 / bioshock. No i'm not saying this game is like them! but like i said, using the tricorder imo was very fun, and broke up the pacing in a good way. Though most of it is really not necessary, which brings me to my next point.
I believe it is a game that requires you to play it the way the developers intended - and that is with a mix of puzzle solving/hacking and cover based shooting (think gears of war etc.). If you just play it like a gears game i dont think it would be anywhere near as enjoyable or rewarding.
So yes i enjoyed it overall - but the odd glitch here and there and very unpolished (or unsatisfying?) gun play, enemy AI and cover mechanics make it a tricky game to recommend. But hey if its on sale for half price, like under $10, then yeh i think its worth it. Just be prepared to be a little underwhelmed and frustrated at times becuase with maybe 6 more months in the oven, it could have been so much better.
ps - apologies for the crappy grammar, spelling etc!
