Garbage, absoutly garbage. This game punishes you for moving fast, take a moment to think about that. It is frustrating, not fun, skip it.

Where do I even begin? I won't talk about the physics, it is a HUGE problem, but I think that's been covered pretty well in other reviews and whatnot. It sure is ugly though. Some of the environment and water effects look nice, but that's about it. The levels are ugly and way too shiny. Sonic himself is ugly and in contrast with the overly shiny levels, actually looks pretty dull. All of his character animations are ugly and uninteresting to look at.

The soundtrack is downright awful. It's boring and uninspired. It tries to emulate the classic Genesis sound and fails miserably. None of these tunes are memorable at all.

Just like the music, the level themes and designs are also boring, uninspired, and forgettable. They don't try anything new, and the game suffers for it. I can forgive Splash Hill Zone, every Sonic game starts out with a Green Hill Zone esq level and it's a tradition I like. What I can't forgive is the rehash of Casino Night Zone, (it has its own name but I already forgot it) and the painfully generic levels that come after.

TL;DR this game is a soulless attempt at a cash-grab on older fans' nostalgia. Avoid this, at the very least, don't pay full retail for this monstrosity.

This game is just.... Bad... I can see the potential it has, but I have never felt Sonic so slow. Every time I lose rings or hit a spike, I don't feel like I did something wrong, I feel like the game is just hiding things so I can die. The lock on system is a good concept, but half the time it actually doesn't lock and then Sonic does weird hops and face plants. I then decided to play Episode 2. Trust me, that game is better. Skip this one.

Everything about this game makes me mad.

The graphics are like vomit. Like Diablo II Cinema Scene vomit.

Sonics character design is disgusting. Sure he looks the same as all the other 'new sonic' incarnations, but for some reason, Sonic 4 is where I draw the god damn line.

The level design is messy. I cant tell where I'm going or where the next enemy is going to appear. There is no flow to the play, it feels uncomfortable. Plus, the level themes are boring.

The Chaos Emerald levels are horrible. Now you control the tilt of the level instead of the level tilting for you, and I don't think they were timed so strictly in the previous games.

While I am almost positive this game was designed for mobile, that gives it no excuse to not look like a modern game. The models have this gross shiny "90s-console-3d" look to it and I hate that.

Please do not buy this game. I got it in a humble bundle for almost free, and I still regret it.

I wanted to go fast and all I got was gimmicks that kept slowing me down and terrible stage design. Also, Sonic feels slow, has a slower start up to running than past games and feels clunky. Target dash does not belong in this game and they need to stop relying on it as a fix to their poor design. Making us leap of faith into enemies 50% of the time is really annoying as well. Maybe one day they'll make a good game again. All I could think of is that free sneak king game burger king gave away for xbox and how it was actually better than this. Sad.

Horrible, Sonic parece una bolsa de plastiquete azul, y las físicas son asquerosas. Para que hagan esto, que lo maten de una vez.

Worse than bad, Sonic looks like a blue plastic bag, and fisics are simply ridiculous. If Sega wants to continue this, let him die.

This was just a huge disappointment from Sonic 3. The levels are all re-hashed versions of previous Sonic games. Even the bosses are re-used from previous games. This does not feel like a new version of the game, it is more like a remastered compilation of prevous games.

The only innovation I saw was in the Labrynth zone where you can use your torch to light the explosives. The music was just very short loops that became annoying, especially at the end levels.

The only way you should buy/play this game is if it is on sale. I picked mine up at HumbleBundle so at least somebody is getting my money for a good cause.

This game feels...derivative at best. It's essentially a fan-created flash game by someone who played Sonic on the Game Gear...once...and then suffered major brain damage and tried to recreate their experience.

If you have an intense need to move at a faster than average pace, this game is okay for that I guess.

It doesn't live up to the name "Sonic the Hedgehog 4." It's pretty short and takes most of it's inspiration from the original Sonic the Hedgehog but if you ignore the name and just focus on what it is, it's a solid game.

The level design is good, it's a good mix of platforming and puzzles. New gimmicks are introduced every stage, so every level has something new and interesting. The bosses are alright, they move slowly and can sometimes be unpredictable but can all be beaten very quickly if you know what you're doing.

I've heard lots of complaints about Sonic's physics in this game. I can see where they are coming from since they're a lot floatier than the original but it's not like they're bad. Sonic's momentum carries well and is useful for accessing some secret areas. He's also really slow to start running but the addition of Spin Dash and Homing Attack make up for it.

The music is nice. There were only a couple really memorable tracks though. I didn't like that certain elements of the game had no sound effects at all though. It's strange not hearing a thing when Eggman waves agrily at Sonic after being defeated, especially since the game uses their modern designs.

The graphics are a bit bland too. This is especially noticable on the special stages where the background is just a Kaleidoscope.

Overall I liked this game, it has a few weird problems but the gameplay makes up for it. It does not, however, live up to it's name as a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

MUCH better off playing the original games or the newer 'Sonic Generations' if you want some hedgepig in your life.

Apart from some of Sonics older fans who last got to play the previous insalment of this series (Sonic the Hedgehog 3, February 2nd, 1994) the little blue begger doesn't seem to have aged well.

Physics have worsened, Graphics are just... Bluergh. Music is more childish and less innovative and shorter. Although Doctor Robotnik did surprise me in the first battle. he came along with his massive balls and swung them about as usual and after you beat him normally he goes for one last massive overhead swing attack of ball crushing. Which was a nice twist. I guess.

I was 9 when I played the third game. I'm now 30... Either I should grow up or this timeline of sonic games should have tried to match me in some way. Probably the former, but I wouldn't complain about the latter.

The 30 year old in me is now going to go and get some work done. the inner nine year old is going be a little upset about his favourite hedgehog and the inner teen is probably going to be thinking about ♥♥♥♥.

At least this game tried, and that's all I can say on the plus side for this monstrosity, sadly. The physics are garbage, the graphics are ugly, animations are wonky, as well as the controls. Nothing went right. What the ♥♥♥♥ is a Sonic?

This game is garbage. As a Sonic fan I really tried to find something positive, but failed. But not as hard, as this game. Not even worth completion. Worst Sonic game I played.
