What the developers have to say:

“Greetings Magickans!
We've just hit Alpha with the Wizard Wars, spells are now fully lethal though. During the coming days and weeks we will continue to add features and tweaks together with you. In the main menu there's always a "Feedback" button available which we respond to in weekly updates. If you decide to support us by getting the Founder Wizard or IMPressive Founder Packs we will also discuss changes in depth in the forum with you.

Lastly, any support is welcome, and in the end joining is during Early Access means just that, you get to play and develop the game with us from Alpha. The goal however, is to offer the most fun free to play arena game out there, you just have to let us know when you think we've reached that goal.”

Downtime Today at 13:00 CEST - ELO Reset

June 26th, 2014

Hi all.

We will take the servers down at 13:00 today to apply a mass ELO reset to all players. Looking at the stats we have available it seems this is the best way of getting good results from the new matchmaker's settings.

Taking into account the changes that were made in yesterday's patch, players should now form a traditional bell-curve on the ELO scale as opposed to the strange muddle we had as a result of the prior matchmaking system. This issue was caused by a bug in the system that allowed you to make ELO gains by chewing up players that were far lower ranked than yourself.

The result of us resetting people's ELO should immediately resolve long queue time issues, and in the long term ensure that people are where they should be in terms of their rating.

It's like Dota, except there's no items, no experience, no gold, no towers, no farming, everyone's invoker, and friendlyfire is on.

Okay, so it isn't really like Dota.

Magicka wizard wars is probably one of the best Spell-casting magic games i've played.

I loved the original Magicka, and this game takes this series further with a better spell system, better graphics, and animations. The humor isn't quite there, but I expect them to focus on improving the game first.

It's also free now, and it will always be. Honestly was was glad to pay 15 dollars to be part of the development of the game. And no, this isn't another P2W. This is a free game and buying robes/staffs for money have the same stats that are available in the game after you have a certain level, Similar to tf2.

And the community... Damn I haven't seen such a mature and modest game community like this in while. The developer(s) are very helpful and friendly, and even pop in on discussions in the forums. Hopefully it will stay like this as open beta is now available and the community increases dramatically.

As for the actual gameplay, the game is balanced(so far?) and it may take a while when you finally get the hang of it and become a pubstomping, as there is a big learning curve.

Also this art style is awesome.

I would certainly pick this up, and gladly be part of the development process of the game. I would give this and overall 9/10.

Never before did I think I'd have to develop muscle memory for a game that wasn't a fighter. Wizard Wars is NOT a MOBA but is much more skill-based with complexity coming from combat rather than the items and levels that you see in MOBAs. Using Magicka's unique magic system (using raw elements in combo-presses for different effects), this game's combat is structured chaos with experienced players playing mindgames amongst each other within an inprejudice a storm of destruction. Robes, melee and staves can improve certain stats and elemental affinities but take away from others, which allows you to specialize but have to change strategy once the enemy realizes what you're up to by adapting, making the game completely balanced. It's a system where the player "levels up" as they play rather than the character, in true fighter fashion. I could go on about how much this game reminds me of an arena/fighting game but I HIGHLY recommend everyone buy this. And, yes, it will be free-to-play at launch but $13 minimum is well worth what this game has to offer and assure you go as few days missing out on this game as timely possible. Thank you Paradox North. My hood's off to you.

This game is amazing! Even in alpha the combat is unlike that of anything ever seen. It puts Magicka to shame with its game mechanics (and Magicka was already amazing.) It does however have a high learning curve so it is not always beginner friendly. Also it has friendly fire which for me is absolutely necessary for a Magicka game it is really annoying when a newb starts ruining games just because he does not understand that the Meteor shower he just cast killed himself and his entire team losing the game.

All in all this game is Fabuluuuuusssnesss covered in awesome sauce. Keep it up. Looking forward to the free to play full game. I already got some of my friends paid versions though because it is sooo good.

GL HF!
