Important Update Regarding Magicka: Wizard Wars

It’s with regret that we have to announce that we will be closing down our servers for Magicka: Wizard Wars as of July 21st 2016.

When the decision came to halt development on the game we left the servers open so that our small but passionate player base could still continue to enjoy the game as it was, we hope that this has been a fun time for you all (the odd server gremlin aside)! Unfortunately though we have reached the point where we can’t economically justify to continue running the costly server infrastructure. To make things clear, these last 9 months haven’t been a money-making exercise for us (for the most part server costs weren’t covered) we simply wanted to let those of you who loved the game play for as long as was possible.

Wizard Wars was a project close to our hearts, and although the original Dev team are now working on other projects within the Paradox organization We still have fond memories!

How will the shutdown work?

  • Servers will remain open for a period of 3 months from today.

  • Shortly before this post all items/bundles with a real-money cost have been removed or converted to be purchased with in-game crowns only.

  • We will do our best to introduce any old content we have collecting dust in our archives, so you may see some new bits and pieces appearing (Not 100%, depends on work needed, we will try though!).

Should you have boosters active that expire AFTER 21st July 2016 please contact our support (www.paradoxplaza.com/support) and we can look into refunds where appropriate.

Finally a big thanks from all of us who’ve worked on the project, to you, the fans. The passion and feedback from you throughout the whole development of the game has been nothing short of awesome!

Magicka 2 Receives Deadly Furious Ice in New "Ice, Death, and Fury" DLC

STOCKHOLM — Dec. 15, 2015 — Paradox Interactive, a publisher of games for chill people, today released “Ice, Death, and Fury” for Magicka 2, a new DLC set which adds all new ways to play with your combustible companions. The DLC, which contains ice, death, and fury in a broad variety of styles and combinations, is available today for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs, and the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system.

Magicka 2, the critically exclaimed game that lets you spell “success” using electrified healing steam, can be played in brand-new game modes using the new DLC, and also challenges players to new boss fights and new questionable fashion advice with a new set of robes and weapons. To get “Ice, Death, and Fury,” visit https://www.paradoxplaza.com/magicka-2-ice-death-and-fury

Icy what we did here in this new video sneak peek:

Very fun game. The only thing I wish was change is exiting the game, I have to go through the menu to exit, and i can't exit in the midle of a game if I *have* to leave. I can't even change the sound volume while in game because they don't let you press "Esc".

Having 1900+ hours, you slow start to learn the basic control of the game. Once you pick up on it, it's quite fun and enjoyable. This is the type of game that speed/skill is the ultimate key. There aren't any OP Gear if you know how to counter act types of elements. There are people that spam different keys, but it can be easily avoided. Another neat feature about the game is the training mode, you get to test different spell combinations before you actually try it in a match. I would relate this game to a capture and destroy.

I was one of the first players of this game, and supported it at every opportunity I could. Seeing it grow was an inspiring and grand thing to experience. While I never got the blue founder robes (thanks Obama) and there were clear balance issues, this game was astonishing. Even though my hundreds of dollars worth of DLC will soon vanish, and I sit in my green wizard robe, I still believe that money was well spent. I met friends and companions, and found myself in one of the most supportive and loving communities I've ever encountered. So much so that I memorized every single error code so that I could help new players run the game.

Very early on, there was criticism about the ability to call up 3 rather than 5 elements at any given point. Then there were debates over whether an element was "death" or "arcane" (the answer is arcane). Next came issues with servers, as an expert was needed to fix the netcode. Then were concerns of the game being "Pay 2 Win," something it never was. Tragedy struck as wizards soon lost their precious snowballs, but were soon presented with a chest that always mocked my very existence. We lost our gems soon after, only to reclaim them in the end with a new crafting system and masteries. Despite what I know some in the community felt, I thought each update was a step in the right direction for an already masterpiece of a game.

So do I recommend this game?
Yes.
Even when the servers shut down, and you can not play, I believe that this game is worth downloading. Having this game at all is something that you should be proud of.

And to the dev team:
You worked long and hard to make this game, and even after this game ends I will not forget that. It may not have been the huge phenomenon that we all hoped it would rightfully become, but it was to me one of the greatest games I have ever experienced. I wish you all the best in the future!

I guess the only thing I have left to say is this:

This wasn't a perfect game, the servers were buggy, it was prone to crashing, it could take a long time to find a match sometimes, updates often seemed slow, not every spell or piece of gear felt well balanced, and balanced match making wasn't added for a long time, and even then the match making still didn't always seem all that balanced,

Having said that, it was perhaps the best game I ever played (with respect to competitive gameplay). Pretty much lacking random elements and with what felt like an extremely high skill cap. If most MOBAs might be compared to Monopoly, MWW was perhaps more comparable to Go.

Even if I didn't spend much time in this game, I find it very sad to see this game go. An unique skill based MOBA game that was fun to play, but difficult to master. All spells you could create that counter each other. Something I have never experienced in any other game. I may not spend the next 3 months on this game, but it will still be a piece of my gaming history as one of the most random, hilarious, ragebuilding, fun and enjoyable game I have ever played.

The server will be closed in 3 months, finally it's time to do a review. This game is by no means perfect, it has glitches and bugs here and there, and the server is a bit laggy. But as a player who haven't paid anything for the game, the game did leave me a fond memory and give some great MOBA experience.

R.I.P, MWW.

Awesome game, stuffed with easter eggs and funny jokes, bugs here and there, but who is perfect? You became a wizard, some guys spend five years learning to become a master of the wizards, but for new players is something like a wizard potato(if you are a noob and start a game you automatically became a mashed potatos, is pretty cool [ i'm hungry, wait a minute]).....
.....
..... one minute later
.....
..... as I was saying, you became a wizard..... ok, I have spoken about it.... hmm..... it's a free game, so, family can play without higher expenses, it has an interesting way of playing MOBA, is free, but his time in this world is gone. So, I have nothing more to talk about

Pros:

- Awesome game
- Great MOBA experience
- Became a wizard, maybe a master of the Wizards or maybe like a wizard potato

Against:

-Not easy to learn, five years to become a master of Wizards
-Has no longer, R.I.P.

obs: The close is in July, so, run to ensure your copy

It's a real shame that Magicka: Wizard Wars will be closed up very soon. I just recently started to play it and I'm sure that there will be again next time, at least until servers will close. I haven't explored worlds in Magicka 1 and 2 but even tho decided to start my adventure with this one. Maybe at begin I was confused and making spells to fight another wizards was hard, but after few matches I started to get into it. It's probably the best game with spellcasting, where only your gaming skills and how fast you can cast spells (and counter spells) are important. There are some levels, items you can unlock and wear on yourself. I really love hawaii robe! I also love that tips section when you are killed - it shows not only combination of spell enemy used but also how you can counter it next time. It's really fun multiplayer game, I didn't even had trouble finding people to play together. It's free, so try it before it will close up.

If Paradox Interactive does not want to or can not monetize this game any more, they should release the game files to the public domain so that this games legacy can live on. It's not like Paradox is going to make any money from their work if they shut down the severs permanently. I urge Paradox to create a Github account and upload the game client and server source (if it is that simple [I don't know if it is, I am not a good enough programmer, yet]). The source is doing Paradox no good sitting in a damp basement, decaying.

If anyone reads this reveiw, just download the game before June 21, 2016 and play at least play a couple hours of a game headed straight to the graveyard. After that date, you can NEVER play the game EVER again. No new players will enjoy this game after that date. It is a scary thought.

I started playing the moment I say what was happening (I heard a month after the news broke). Just press the download button!! Just do it! Later, it will be too late!!

P.S. Paradox, please just release this game's assets to the public. Thanks. I know Paradox will probably never do it, but I asked nicely. :)

Right now, i wouldnt recommend this game but don't get me wrong this game is amazing.
It combines the magicka spell system with moba gameplay which makes it almost totally skill based.
Sure there are items in the game but it barely boosts your stats so you need skill, strategy and teamwork to win.
But the problem is, they stopped development for this game last year and Paradox has completely forgotten this gameafter moving on to Magicka 2. A lot of players dropped this game, including me, after the massive decrease in players.
It would take around 10-25 minutes to solo queue for a match, and a lot of people would rather use that time to play some other game. However, its still a fun and free moba and best of all its not p2w
