Toki Tori 2+ may look cute, but it’s a challenging puzzle adventure game. Whistle and stomp are the only moves you need to solve increasingly complex puzzles, as you go anywhere, anytime on a lush forest island.

RIVE to be final Two Tribes game

Hi all! Here's some news!

Two Tribes is retiring, RIVE will be our last game!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQyPIHAOd98

After more than 15 years of hard work and gallons of blood, sweat and tears, we have decided that RIVE will be Two Tribes’ final game. For this occasion we've created a brand new trailer, which you can see below. Feel free to share it with your readers, friends and family.

We're committed to making RIVE the best game we've ever made, and will support it as we've always supported our games, but we won't make a new one after that.

See you in September when RIVE launches, feel free to add it to your wishlist!

Collin and Martijn.

Sobre este jogo

Five Ancient Frogs, scattered across the countryside, send a telepathic message to Toki Tori. It’s hard to see how this young chicken could help them destroy the floating crystal endangering everything… but he’s their only hope.

Toki Tori 2+ may look cute, but it’s a challenging puzzle adventure game. Whistle and stomp are the only moves you need to solve increasingly complex puzzles, as you go anywhere, anytime on a lush forest island.

  • A unique take on the Metroidvania formula: progress by exploring, observing and experimenting
  • Meet strange critters, study their behaviour and manipulate them with your whistle and stomp moves
  • Find the Ancient Frogs and destroy the crystal at the heart of the island
  • Whistle songs for special abilities, including rewind and fast travel
  • Use the in-game camera and snap creature pictures to complete the Tokidex
  • Push the game’s mechanics to their limits to find 100s of golden wings

TL:DR A really enjoyable puzzle platformer with great level design and puzzles.

This is a surprisingly enjoyable puzzle platformer. You play as a little baby bird type creature with your only two abilities, you can stomp or sing. Despite only having these two tools you can accomplish a lot with them as you use them to maniplate the other creatures like bugs and frogs to move through the levels. For example you can stomp to drop a bug off the ceiling, he gets swallowed by a nearby frog and then you stomp again to make the frog burp up a bubble which will pick you up and carry you to higher ledges. It's really well done and leads to a lot of challenging and clever puzzles as you progress through the game.

You never get any direct hints from the game, instead it uses clever contextual hints as well as you just learning through trial and error. The game has some light metrodvania style level design with different paths and hidden areas to be found. The graphics have a cartoon style that really fits the game and gives it a lot of charm.

Good points:
- great level design and puzzles that are surprisingly challenging and clever.
-The game doesnt handhold and is brilliant at giving subtle hints about the games mechanics
- Really charming graphics and music which gives it a lot of character
-You get the ability to reset to the nearest save point ,and with a liberal amount of these, it gives you a lot of room for trial and error without making you repeat long sections

Bad points:
- Can think of anything major that was wrong with the game. At a push it might have been nice to have a bigger variety of creatures as most puzzles rely on the bugs, frogs and birds.

The big pain in this game for me was getting where I wanted to go. It was a big pain in the youknowwhat trying to figure how to use the map and get from point A to B. After 10 hours I'm tired and not having fun anymore.

pros: they changed the game mechanic from the previous 'collect eggs' & maneuvering around the level - into a sing & stomp puzzler, beautiful art style, soundtrack fits the theme (although not as good as the first game), environment is reactive to your actions, steam workshop supported

cons: although there are some visual cues - there is no tutorial or objective instructions (which could result in a player getting lost & confused in what you are supposed to do), no mouse support for the world map, no windowed fullscreen mode, can't customize controls, huge difficulty spikes on some puzzles (would often require an online walkthrough to save time in solving tedious tasks)

Overall, this is a lot more open world than the first game but to the detriment of the player, there are times where you would get lost & stumped on solving the puzzles. The new mechanics are great but with a flawed implementation. If you want an extreme trial & error, time consuming, tedious tasks of a puzzle game this is it. Otherwise...

There's like no words. I guess I'm doing stuff by collecting these jingos and putting various special frogs in portals and filling up unlocks on some door? I found a disco!

Every action the fat bird can do is "unlocked" from the get-go, so almost all locks are in our heads as players. I'd go back and I find I could short out slugs by buttstomping wet to short them out, turning a seeming roadblock a new passage.

Everything you do comes from chirping or buttstomping and it still leads to these supercomplex puzzles.

There's all this wierd allusions to dark-and-or-silly stuff as you bumble around solving your way thru the gameworld.

It is THE learn-by-doing game, up there with Valve or Nintendo on this.

I think the only thing I don't truly cotton to is the occasional fidgety puzzle (the controls could stand to be a bit more analog), but that's all I can think of.

Great game.
A ton of awesome puzzles.
Art/Music/Sfx are great.
The game has some of the most amazing puzzles and mechanics I've seen.
Almost nothing is really locked it's just you haven't learned how to solve a certain type of puzzles, that just says how good the design is.

Only bad thing I have to say is that sometimes you have to solve some puzzles a multiple times becasue you want to go back to a certain place where you didn't mark a obelisk, it would be better if you could fly to any door aswell.

A marvelous example of a puzzle game that teaches you its mechanics organically, without a single tutorial. Just pay attention, and you'll figure it out. It's also a somewhat open-world game, so if you feel too smart, you can take a detour and go basically anywhere, but I'd recommend that for a second walkthrough, cause you'll miss the plot twists and a lot of the content.

Toki Tori 2+ is a one of a kind experience, an underrated gem that brings puzzle games into a new light.

While there are -no- tutorials, many mechanics are introduced discreetly throughout the game, exploiting the only two abilities the player has. (Stomp and chirp) A useful point to note about this: 'Side paths' often require an undiscovered method of using your abilities. These tricks are introduced in different places of the world map, and to avoid frustration, clear what seems easier and head back after exploring other parts of the world.

Some puzzles, often special areas, are extremely tedious. A slight mistake and the entire process starts over. Unfortunately, rewind mode doesn't exist.

*The main problem with the game is sustaining interest of the player during the first few hours. The vague context of the game takes a little away from the experience. (If it wasn't for google, I would still be clueless what the story was.) Tori's abilities feel extremely limited at the start. While you do learn about the environment and its interactions, it feels like Tori doesn't 'grow' for an extensive period of time. (A lack of reward) Moreover, the game is extremely unique and may feel uncomfortable to people who wants comfort in what they are used to. (Toki Tori 1 or most puzzle games) Chirping melodies also seem like a very important feature used to solve puzzles. (but it isn't, it's the interaction a chirp does)

Conclusion
This is the one of the few puzzle games I have played that uses inductive reasoning skills. It is not a game for everyone. Expect nothing of its predecessor (or most puzzle games for the matter) as your mind will be pushed into a different way of thinking. That said, Toki Tori 2 is in a genre of its own. If you have an open mind, you will probably love this.

Personally my favourite puzzle game of all time, more so than Portal 2. (and that was amazing)

Things I wished the game told you:
1. The teleporting eagle could've been introduced earlier in the game.
2. Using the rewind melody on a checkpoint brings you back to a previous checkpoint and can be used repeatedly within the area.
3. Do not attempt to bring all shiny orange frogs into the tunnel BEFORE entering the city on the first playthrough.
4. "We will be making Toki Tori 3 as sales for Toki Tori 2 is off the charts!"

Short Review
+++++ Left me with the best experience I have ever had in a puzzle game.
++++ Marry me class of level design
++++ Marry me class of game design
+++ Finding the many secrets in the game
++ Nice difficulty curve that gets extremely complex
+ Peaceful music
+ Pleasant graphics (apart from the blue birds)
+ No glitches as far as I can see.
+ Comes with a Tokidex
+ Being forced to watch Toki Tori drown
+ Being crushed
+ Being electrocuted
+ Crushing little fruits
+ Gets to witness a massacre
++ Worth every dollar - It's a steal during sales (hard heads will not enjoy this)
++++++++++++++++ Satisfaction of electrocuting and crushing the blue birds.

- Lack of a clear purpose.
- The huge paragraph above with regard to the pacing in the beginning.
- Can be frustrating. (If you choose not to head to the 'main path' and gather knowledge of all tutorial hints)
- Some puzzles are too tedious and unforgiving.
- There is a certain area that seem possible to access with the surrounding props but isn't.

Toki Tori 2+ is a fun puzzle game, which can be bought for pretty cheap on a sale. If you're on a Mac, though, you'll want to get a virtual machine with Windows on it for it to work. The graphics are nice, the characters are cute, and there are killer bats. I mean, killer bats, come on. I haven't played a lot of the game yet, so this isn't based off of a lot.

Overall, if you like puzzle games, you'll probably like this one. 8/10

(If you want to jump a lot, though, you may be slightly disappointed)

A masterpiece.

Toki Tori 2+ is like Metroid, except the enemies are replaced by puzzles and you never learn any new abilities. The entire map is available to you from the minute you start, and the only thing standing in your way is your brain.

I want to shake the hands of whoever designed this game. I've read that the developer went out of business due to poor sales, which is absolutely criminal.

10/10. Play it, especially if you enjoy exploring.

Although it may seem like a "kiddy" game because of the artstyle, graphics, etc. Some of the puzzles in this game will really make you think. Great for people who like puzzle games, and games that they can play casually to relax.

Very charming and fun puzzle platformer, a very good sequel to the original. Probably the closest thing to Nintendo on Steam I have played, due to its charming, colorful, and pleasant atmosphere. I reccomend this title if you enjoy puzzle platformers that make you think out solutions.

A mudança parece chocante a princípio.
