About This Game

The standalone expansion to the award-winning Total War™: SHOGUN 2 explores the conflict between the Imperial throne and the last Shogunate in 19th century Japan, 400 years after the events of the original game. A dramatic clash of traditional Samurai culture with the explosive power of modern weaponry.
Guide ancient Japan into the modern age, as the arrival of America, Britain and France incites a ferocious civil war which will decide the future of a nation.
  • Dramatic 19th century Japan setting

Based on the backdrop of the Boshin War period, the new campaign starts in 1864, a time of growing resentment against Western colonial power and influence. As Japan begins to modernise and industrialise, the inevitable social and economic changes lead to increasingly militant nationalism and antipathy towards the Shogunate.
  • 6 new playable clans

Play as a clan supporting the Imperial throne, or the last Shogunate:
    • Shogunate clans: Aizu, Nagaoka, Jozai
    • Imperial clans: Choshu, Satsuma, Tosa
  • New foreign powers

The American, British and French nations play an important part in the story of the Boshin war, and your relations with these foreign powers will be integral to unit recruitment and to advancing your technology trees.
  • New 19th century Japan campaign map
    • The new island of Ezo extends the SHOGUN 2 campaign map northwards.
    • Fully refreshed towns and other campaign map features reflect the new time period, with railways making their first appearance in a Total War title.
  • Campaign map railways
    • Develop your own railway network to move armies and agents between your regions.
    • Railways can be sabotaged and transport can be blocked by enemy armies who take control of parts of the line or stations.
  • 39 new land units
    • Including modern ranged units - such as the Gatling gun and Armstrong gun - controllable in a new third-person mode.
    • New units can also be recruited from foreign powers, including the British Royal Marines, US Marine Corps and French Marines.
  • 10 new naval unit types with a total of 21 ships
    • New steam-powered warships, heavily armed with modern artillery.
    • Foreign ironclad ships can also be purchased, including the Warrior-class ironclad.
  • New port siege battle type
    • This new battle type triggers when attempting a naval assault on an occupied enemy port.
    • The attacking fleet must sail into the harbour and capture the port, running the gauntlet of coastal gun defences.
  • New land and sea unit interactions
    • During a land battle, armies can call in offshore artillery support barrages.
    • Conversely, costal gun emplacements can target enemy ships during port siege battles, when ending their turn within the range of upgraded coastal defences.
    • Campaign map bombardments: offshore naval units can bombard armies and cities in adjacent coastal areas on the campaign map itself.
  • 3 new agent types
    • The Foreign Veteran, the Ishin Shishi and the Shinshengumi.
    • Each new agent has its own skill tree, and Ninja and Geisha agents have had their skill trees updated with new abilities.
  • Improved siege battle mechanics
    • New upgradable tower defences can be built with a specific defence specialty: archery, matchlock or Gatling gun.
  • Multiplayer 2.0
    • New Conquest map reflecting the 19th century setting
    • Brand-new Fall of the Samurai avatar, including:
      • Over 40 new retainers
      • Over 30 new armour pieces
      • New 19th century avatar skill tree
    • Multiple avatars: players can enjoy multiple careers and progression across Shogun 2 and Fall of The Samurai

The Fall of the Samurai expansion combines the base Shogun 2 game with improved ranged combat similar to Empire/Napoleon Total War and a vastly buffed naval combat system. Navies in general are much more valuable due to their contributions to sieges or even coastal land battles. Campaign AI and Combat AI were given some improvements as well.

tldr: Shogun 2 + Napoleon Total War = Fall of the Samurai. The combination works and is amazing in action.

Epic DLC for a epic game. This DLC will make the original game, which it already a masterpiece, x10 better. A must have.

The second and as of writing, the second expansion pack to Shogun 2 and wow is it worth the money. First of all you get 6 factions in the campaign mode which is an extra 60+ hours of gameplay alone and for a mere £2 extra (basically less than the price of a cup of coffee), you get an extra clan that will add at least 10+ more hours to your gameplay.

The game engine is now better optimised and much more stable and also runs the game more smoothly on mid to low range machines capable of playing it. Anyone who was having trouble running the game beforehand should give it a go.

Multiplayer has basically gotten a huge expansion too given that the game's added well over 60 new land and naval units plus a 19th Century avatar skill tree. The combination of 12th, 17th and 19th century units also adds a huge variety of tactice and batttle/play styles so you should easily find one that suits you.

This game is a great combo of RTS during battle, and Turn base strategy on the world map.

Just beat a campaign in this and I have to say it was a pretty sweet experience. Basically it boils down to a mix of all the great things in the last couple of total war games. You get the infantry gun combat of empire, the melee armies of shogun 2, and some of the few (Good) gameplay mechanics of napoleon total war (namely good artillery). The best improvement by far is the tweaks they have made to navies. They can be used to bombard improvements and armies, and in combat near coasts they can provide offshore artillery strikes making it worth while to have large navies other than to transfer your troops around. One thing that bothered me though was the AI and balance in autoresolve. The AI builds lots of units, but namely a lot of old school units instead of modern ones. A real time battle is a tiny challenge, but an auto resolve results in a win with you losing LITERALLY no units sometimes. Overall a decent buy worth picking up though. Have not done Multiplayer yet.

An excellent expansion, I found it more entertaining than the base game.

It's basically the same game but set in the Boshin war. The combat now relies more heavily on guns. The higher level units are actually better too, so you can no longer beat the game by simply charging with peasant spearmen. The game looks pretty and the music is magnificient.

As for multiplayer, I haven't bothered with it, it's probably full of people camping at their sides of the map with riflemen in some inpenetratable formation.

Much better than the underwhelming Rise of the Samurai. Only problem is I can't find a way to play as Tom Cruise.

With this expansion Shogun 2 has become twice as amazing. Less flailing katanas around and more shooting your enemies in the back, just like gentlemen would do. Plus, who wouldn't want to mow down a cavalry charge with a Gattling Gun battery!

This expansion damn near redoes the entire shogun 2 game. They could have marketed this as a seperate game and charged me full price and I still would have gotten it. Simply amazing the difference between the expansion and the origional game.

The sea artillary, cannons, gatling guns, and first-person perspective mode for the afore mentioned weapons and ships really makes Fall of the Samurai an interesting and great addition to Shogun II. I would highly recommend this stand-alone DLC, but regular Shogun II is a lot of fun as well.

Unfortunately this game did not feature as much base jumping as the title would have me believe, but it did let me re-enact the ending scene of the Last Samurai when Ken Watanabe and all his samurai mates get killed and Tom Cruise cries and ♥♥♥♥. Sorry for spoiling the movie by the way, it was actually pretty good. I still don't get how Tom Cruise manages to kill a master samurai with a flagpole and then to add insult to injury, ♥♥♥♥s the guys wife later on? I mean come on, at first she doesn't like him but after a little while she is all on his ♥♥♥♥. lets not forget the fact that he becomes a master swordsman over the course of a few months? How am I supposed to believe this guy can compete with ninjas and samurai when he never used a katana before a few weeks ago?

Stil, I do like Tom Cruise, he was really good in jack Reacher which was a pretty surprising movie although Obliviion was kinda mediocre. He was good in Collateral too but I still think that Top Gun is his masterpiece although it has perpetuated the myth that he is a bit of a homo which is not true at all.

Anyway, who cares if an actor rides the gravy train? Rock Hudson did and he was a manly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I bet if some A-list chick came out with a lesbian sex tape she would be heralded as a heroine, but if someone catches Vin Diesel balls deep in Matthew McConna♥♥♥♥ you can bet your ♥♥♥ their careers would go down the ♥♥♥♥ter. I watched Bad Grandpa tonight too, it was pretty funny.

I like Johnny Knoxville, I think he is a rough gem of an actor. He's shown some real acting chops at times and he seems to know his stuff about movies. I can definitely see him getting an oscar nomination at some point too, but I would like to see him doing another movie with the Rock again. Knoxville really feeds off charismatic characters in his movies and he would be a great little sidekick like in Walking Tall.

Long story short, I rate this game an 8/10, The Last Samurai 8/10, Jack Reacher a 9/10, Collateral a 7/10, and to continue the warrior theme, Ronin a 6/10.

Jean Reno was good in Ronin as was DeNiro, they had good chemistry and it would've been nice to see a movie just focused on them but i dont think the world could handle it back then.

Fall of the Samurai is the stand alone expansion to the outstanding game Shogun 2. The play off between traditional sword and bow units verses the emerging gunpowder technology creates an experience that is unique to the Total War series. Fight the tide of modernisation with traditional armies or push Japan in to the new age of warfare bringing canons and gatling guns to the fray. It's fun to play out both styles and there is some great additions like naval bombardment, a story driven battle mode and the avatar conquest in multiplayer to give you plenty of content to play with.

Fall of the Samurai is the stand alone expansion of shogun 2. The campaign is amazing as you choose to fight for the imperial cause or keep old traditions and fight to keep the shogun in power.

The era is in the 1860's and Japan has opened it's ports to the outside world allowing foreigners such as the united states, france, and great britain in to heavily influence the game.

Like shogun, this add on has its own avatar conquest map to achieve though, a little stagenet as most of the units are very similar to one another and all being rifle units with some variants of calvery. I still think shogun 2 avatar conquest was better for the mass amounts of unit variety though, fall of the samurai stil has an amazing online play aswell as some intense naval fighting and naval bombardment added into the campaign to change the game play.

I highly reccomend this game though the only downside being co-op campaign being very glitchy and unplayble.

This made the original game 10 times better as the original game is burning out. This DLC basicly adds modern units into the game along with the old traditional samurai units.

total war shogun 2 fall of the samurai is very amazing but i would say that normal shogun 2 graphic is abit better, the good thing about this game is that you can have OP armstrong guns and gatling guns but i found out that the armstrong guns are more useful. The campain is about 60 hour long and you can chose 6 faction 3 shogun and 3 Imperial clan as you get 17 provinces or your fame gets to the max you will choose to serve the emperor or shogun or personal control if you choose to serve the emperor or shogun then all the opposite clan will declare war you so if you are a shogun faction all imperial clan will declare war on you this is called full scale war.i recommend you to be a shogun clan for because i found it to be easy but if you want some real challenge one of the 3 pick the imperial clan and the AI is actually good. i recommend you to download the ww1 mods in steam workshop and play the historical battle.

An excelent expansion to a brilliant game. And its so clever too; there is great stradergy involved in managing both towns and armys, and how to support them with the now important navy aspect. I reccomend this wholeheartedly.
