Steam Workshop

Torchlight 2 now fully supports Steam Workshop. A new launcher synchronizes any mods you have subscribed to, and lets you customize their activation state and loading priority. In addition, when playing Internet games in the lobby, you will be able to filter modded games by mod combination, and with a single button click, subscribe to those mods. Torchlight 2 will then restart, synchronize them, and activate them before returning you to the game.

When playing modded games, you can view your mod history, any previously played mods, and the impact disabling mods may have on your character.

We've tried to make the process as seamless as possible, with a focus on allowing modded multiplayer games with a minimum of fuss.

GUTS is our in-house development tool, now fully integrated with Steam Workshop. You can publish directly to Steam Workshop when you compile your mod, making it available immediately for others to play.

We've also added a special tool to GUTS designed to convert pre-GUTS mods into the official mod format, with an eye toward making the transition much easier for our ambitious early modders.

You can learn more about using GUTS here.

Me and friend playing game together. We come off at same time and do same quests to prevent us from leveling up without one another. Realises I am 2 levels higher from doing the same stuff. Friend gets mad and doesn't want to play anymore. That's when I noticed I had bonus XP on my armour.

10/10 would lose friend again.

Finally I found an action hack and slash game bringing me back in time to the edge of millennium. Running around searching every corner of the map and furiously clicking on everything that moves, that's what you want and what you get. Wide scale of equipment (inc. enchantments; gems) and talents gives you many oportunities and playstyles and that's what every player appreciates. Torchlight 2 has much to offer, just grab it and play!

I recommend Synergy mod, it significantly increased my personal rating. In basic game there are only 4 classes with 3 talent branches, synergy widen this to 8 and that gives this game a new dimension, but it is only one feature, there is more torchlight players shouldn't miss this.

8.5 /10

Torchlight 2 Review

One only has to look at the numbers to see that Runic Games really struck gold when they released the hit sequel Torchlight 2 as a follow-up to their original action RPG game, Torchlight. While it may not give anything new to the genre and it didn't win a bunch of awards like its predecessor, it still sold over 2 million copies in less than a year of its full release date. Impressive. The reason is quite simple: everything Torchlight 2 does, it does well.

All of our favorite features from Torchlight return and have been improved, such as pets and fishing, in addition to some new features being added. Some of the changes you can expect to see include: an expanded crafting system, a longer campaign that spans across various maps, the user interface has been improved and made simpler, mods are openly welcomed, a Multiplayer co-op mode has been added, and now players have two choices to continue gameplay even after finishing the campaign with New Game Plus and Mapworks. The graphics and sound are really nice and the special effects are superb. With Torchlight 2's random map generator for dungeons, replay value is even greater. Loaded with action and filled with loot, this game is sure to entertain.

Probably the best thing about Torchlight 2 is the seemingly endless customization possibilities. Players can choose their character from four different classes, each with their own unique abilities and specialized equipment. There are countless armor and weapon variations throughout the game, most of which add additional bonuses or power-ups to your character. Then of course, sockets can be added to the equipment which will allow you to insert gems into them, giving even more bonuses and special abilities. And don't forget that while journeying through the expansive dungeons scattered across the maps, players will come across furry little critters that offer an assortment of enchantments that can be added to each item for a fee. With the right combinations you can turn your character into a demigod and that's before you ever begin experimenting with the almost limitless crafting system where players can create stronger potions, better gems, more unique items and armor, etc.

Of course, no game is perfect and players have their own tastes and preferences. So while the game is a lot of fun and highly recommended, there are a few things players should know when deciding on whether to buy this game or not. There is no controller support included with Torchlight 2. Players who prefer controllers over mouse will need to add in their own mapping or download one. The good news is there are several already out there and can easily be added, so its not a really big hassle. Don't expect a deep storyline in this game. While there is a story that plays out across the campaign trail, its not fleshed out very well and is less than enthralling. While it is lacking, this shouldn't be an issue for the most part because the game keeps the action moving at a steady pace so most players probably won't even give it a second thought anyways.

Also, expect a few random bugs. Fortunately none of them are game-breaking and not of big consequence but they do exist. From fishing holes not being accessible to loot being hurled out of the player's reach or even characters occasionally being pushed onto a ledge by a charging mob with no way to escape (other than using a port scroll), know that on occasion something like this may happen. Players aren't really going to miss much of anything as a result and aside from these minor nuissances the game runs very smooth and never crashes.

The Good:
+ Good graphics with top-notch special effects
+ Solid sound effects and above average voiceovers
+ Full-length story campaign
+ Limitless character & item customization options
+ Variety of special abilities
+ Well-developed crafting system
+ Simple controls
+ UI is comfortable and easy to use
+ Multiplayer co-op
+ Mod-friendly game environment
+ Low resource requirements allow gameplay on most machines
+ Steam Achievements & Trading Cards
+ High replay value
+ Price (similar games often cost twice as much)
+ A ton of loot and treasure

The Bad:
- No controller support included
- Random bugs (not game-breaking)
- No auto-collect for treasure after battle
- Story is not very intriguing
- A ton of loot and treasure

Final Thoughts:
While Torchlight 2 isn't ground-breaking and its not going to blow your socks off, the game is still very entertaining and offers numerous hours of gameplay. There's a reason why its one of the most popular and liked games on Steam and can be found in most game libraries. This game has a lot of features included and all of them are packaged extremely well. If you don't already own it, I definitely recommend picking up a copy.

Competent & addictive // Recommended for those who hold gameplay in higher esteem than plot development

*This review is based on a purely vanilla playthrough.

+ Offers internet and LAN co-op options for play; players seem to overwhelmingly report a satisfying online experience
+ Cartoony art-style and aesthetics contrast nicely with more subdued atmosphere and somewhat unsettled soundtrack
+ Offers a Game+ mode, unlocked upon successful completion of the game; does well to increase replayability
+ Offers excellent mod support
+ Rewards and challenges flow at a quick and satisfying pace; keeps the game from feeling overtly grindy
+ Gameplay is generally snappy and engaging; visuals work superbly to keep up with and reflect combat well, and the overall experience is therefore greatly improved
+ Skill development allows for great character customization and variety of gameplay
+ Tons and tons of loot available, sidequests to complete for addition rewards, and option boss encounters
+ Armor customization allows for further specialization of one's character, and meshes perfectly with the skill development mechanics
+ Monster design is generally agreeable, and never really breaks away from the game's aesthetic design
+ Game engine feels quick and optimized, with almost no noticeable demand on hardware

- Generally uninspired and poorly implemented plot and characters

Torchlight 2 – Action-RPG developed by immigrants from Blizzard North, Max and Eric Schafer. The music by author of soundtrack for Diablo, Matt Ullman. Diablo 3 was released in the same year, but we cannot say that it was better than Torchlight 2, in some cases it is even worse.

In Torchlight 2 developers have paid great attention to the story of the game. During the game we will have to stop some alchemists who’s got some disease and it in search of a cure, destroys peace keepers and return to the life various creatures. Of course, the story is banal, but in comparison with the first part, it suffered a big change. There is much more quests, they become more interesting, challenging and fun. In addition, the landscape has changed in comparison with the first part. Now we have an opportunity to explore not only the caves and tombs, but also various open spaces: forests, fields, deserts and freezing mountains. In addition, it should be noted that the world has become more interesting to explore. You can find a random traveler who needs help, he gladly reward you if you agree to help. You can also find a variety of secret rooms, portals that will test our hero's strength and so on. Of course, not necessarily to explore the world, you can just go through the story, but please note that you may miss some useful trophies and treasures.

It can be seen that the game was developed by the authors of Diablo, for example, they have created a unique, beautiful and variety of locations. From the Gothic ruins of ancient cities, to the mining tunnels. With decorations, such as barrels, urns and stones you can interact, rather, to destroy, to search for the loot.

The game has four difficulty levels, it should be noted that at the maximum level the game is a real challenge for the most experienced players. Also, like in Diablo 3, the game has a Hardcore mode, which means that after you die you will not be able to continue the game for this character. If we compare the maximum difficulty and hardcore mode it is possible to experience a lot of emotions and feelings that you do not get anywhere, even playing in a Souls series.
Bosses represent a great danger, in order to overcome them you will have to work hard. To begin, prepare for battle, buy potions, think the tactics of battle and the most important is the right development of character, distribute abilities and characteristics competently. The game has four unique characters, gameplay for each of them fundamentally different from each other. Throughout the game we got the help from our faithful companion, it can be a dog, a wolf, panda, or any other animal. Pet is very useful, in addition, it helps us in the fight, he also replaces our trips to the city. He can go straight into the city during the battle, in order to bring you the potions and scrolls, as well as to sell the accumulated unnecessary items from your inventory. The game features fishing, you can catch a variety of things or objects to change appearance of your pet.

Another worth noting the presence of co-op mode. Obviously, the enemies become stronger in the cooperative, but the reward for them is growing. It's all made the game more interesting and epic. Overall, the game is worth to spend a lot hours in the company of friends or playing alone.

Locations and characters design
Four unique classes
Interesting gameplay
Many different opponents
Steam Workshop
Hardcore Mode

The absence of any crafting system

Total: 9/10
