Steam Workshop

Torchlight 2 now fully supports Steam Workshop. A new launcher synchronizes any mods you have subscribed to, and lets you customize their activation state and loading priority. In addition, when playing Internet games in the lobby, you will be able to filter modded games by mod combination, and with a single button click, subscribe to those mods. Torchlight 2 will then restart, synchronize them, and activate them before returning you to the game.

When playing modded games, you can view your mod history, any previously played mods, and the impact disabling mods may have on your character.

We've tried to make the process as seamless as possible, with a focus on allowing modded multiplayer games with a minimum of fuss.

GUTS

GUTS is our in-house development tool, now fully integrated with Steam Workshop. You can publish directly to Steam Workshop when you compile your mod, making it available immediately for others to play.

We've also added a special tool to GUTS designed to convert pre-GUTS mods into the official mod format, with an eye toward making the transition much easier for our ambitious early modders.

You can learn more about using GUTS here.

New Content

This release also includes new game content!

  • The NetherRealm tileset - new NetherRealm dungeons can be found via portals throughout the world
  • New Monsters
  • New armor sets
  • New weapons
  • New pets - including the Headcrab!
  • New endgame map content

About This Game

The award-winning action RPG is back, bigger and better than ever! Torchlight II takes you back into the quirky, fast-paced world of bloodthirsty monsters, bountiful treasures, and sinister secrets - and, once again, the fate of the world is in your hands!
Torchlight II captures all the flavor and excitement of the original game - while expanding the world and adding the features players wanted most, including online and LAN co-op multiplayer. Torchlight II is fast, fun, and filled to the brim with action and loot. Adventure solo or online with your friends!

Key Features:

  • Multiplayer - Play co-op with your friends via LAN or over the Internet for free. No subscriptions, no item sales. Our new matchmaking service lets you find friends, start new games, and join existing games. And, as always, you can play single-player offline as well.
  • Customizable Characters - Players will create and customize a character from one of four brand new classes. Each class can be played as either male or female, with customized cosmetic features and looks to make each individual character stand out. All new skills and loot give loads of opportunity for unique character builds.
  • Moddability - TorchED, the Torchlight II editor, will give players the ability to create their own mods, adding even more content to the world. Have your friends download the same mod and play together. TorchED will be available as a separate download very shortly after launch.
  • New User Interface - Torchlight II boasts a new and improved user interface, designed to be easier than ever for new players to pick up and play. This intuitive interface ensures you can focus on playing the game the way you want to.
  • Open World - We're not only in the town of Torchlight anymore! Explore vast overland areas and multiple hub towns, fight through rain, snow, day and night. Our level randomization ensures new layouts, paths, loot, and monsters every time you play.
  • New Game Plus - In New Game Plus, the game's not over until you say it is. Once you've beaten Torchlight II's primary campaign, you can start again with the same character for a significantly greater challenge. You'll keep all of the skills, gold, and gear you worked so hard for!
  • Pets & Fishing - These popular features make their return in Torchlight II in improved form. More choices, better effects, and your pet will still make the run to town to sell your loot so you don’t have to.

If you like Diablo style games then you should check this out. It's a lot more cartoony looking (which help the graphics age better) but don't let it's looks fool you. The game is straight up, can be hardcore, fully featured, and with TONS of loot. It's a blast to play with friends, or go solo. I highly recommend this game to any fans of the genre.

Torchlight II is "Diablo-like" game. But it's as good as "Diablo III".
Pros:
-Nice gameplay
-Random locations (map is generated randomly, locations too but u will always have same quest/caves in location but different position)
- Mods, Mods,mods.
- Multiplayer
- Great Classes
- Great skill trees
- U cant "♥♥♥ up" your character if u dont go like "full vitality, int"
Cons:
-Can be boring alone if you dont care about story.
-If you start 1st playthrough with mods its bad idea.

I cant say story was great or not beacuse i didnt care about it xD

I rate it 8.5/10 :)

I have been looking for a DiabloIII replacement and found this little gem in my search through steams now very sizable library of hack-and-slash titles and i have not been disapointed.

Through at the time of this review I have only logged a lowly 15hours of game time i can honestly say this is more than a match for the Blizzard title.

If the characters, pets, weapons and armours seem basic i need to point out to you that almost everything can be expanded thanks to the steam workshop. The gameplay is as addicting as you would expecet from this genre with that satisfying feeling when a critical it lands and turns your enemies into a fountain of gore.

And yes, if you too were looking for a Diablo replacement... this can in fact -PLAY OFFLINE-

I'm playing 'blind' with the Synergies Mod (because I read so many good things) so my review is based on the game with that mod, as I've not actually played the Vanilla version.

After playing the original Torchlight and hating it due to a massive number of design flaws, I wasn't expecting much for this game. But I am really impressed at the changes made. All of the problems the first game suffered with have now been fixed, and it's a really enjoyable experience.

PROS
- Fun as heck
- Glorious loot!
- Levelling system is simple but interesting
- Nice and bright (why are ppl complaining about this? It isn't Diablo 3!)

NEUTRAL
- Combat is repetitive, but I haven't found this ruins the game
- Thanks to RNGesus, you sometimes get better loot at the start, and the 'special' loot winds up worthless
- Would be nice if your pet had a bit more storage

CONS
- Sometimes during a mob you CANNOT see your mouse pointer and/or character
- Difficulty is weird. It can be too easy and then BAM. You randomly insta-die (RNGesus again?).
- The game doesn't pause on inventory or levelling screens (note: I have a sneaky feeling this is the Synergies Mod, I don't know if the Vanilla version does this)

Anyway, it's fun. I got it on sale for like £2 during a Humble sale, and honestly I probably would've paid full price for it.

This game reminds me of the old Diablo. The Mod support is great and adds more to do once you get tired of the vanilla game.

A Fun action RPG game... If you enjoyed Diablo II, you'll almost certainly enjoy Torchlight as well.

The only real con I can think is that it can take a while for your character build to "come online". i.e.: it takes a few levels for you to have a good selection of cool skills and gear, but once you do, the game is really very fun for anyone who enjoys the genre. Fortunately, it doesn't take long to level up, specially in the early game.

Overall it was a fun hack and slash, Diablo style game. Like the borderlands games, I would recommend that you play this game cooperatively with friends. If you played the first Torchlight game, the second is much more polished and fun to play. If it goes on sale, order some pizza and drinks, grab some friends, and pool some money together for the 4-pack and have a good time.

Pros:
-Good color color pallet choices for the cartoony art style
-All classes felt unique and fun, all were very viable in single player and multiplayer (a huge improvement from Torchlight 1) [seriously, this felt like one of the best class balances I've had in a long time]
-Compared to Torchlight 1, there was improved UI customizations, runspeed/navigation tweaks, etc. (generally more user friendly and comfortable to do various things)
-The music choices were generally decent (though I haven't played in a while and may not remember this aspect the best)

Cons:
-Storyline was sparse, but was functional/adequate. There weren't nearly as many cutscenes as I thought there would be or would have liked there to be. The written dialogue wasn't very engrossing, but it set the premise for the character actions in the game.
-If you liked the darker/grittier visual styles of Diablo, Path of Exile, or The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, the cartoony artstyle may be offputting to you

It's a loot-tastic, action-packed, hack-fest-extravaganza!

Torchlight 2 absolutely nails the isometric-camera-action-RPG genre. From a wonderfully colorful, artistically unique world to near-perfect pacing, this is a gem worth owning, if you have even a remote interest in the genre.

Totally uber-awesome game!

What Is Torchlight II?

Torchlight II is one of those wildly popular Steam games which hardly requires any introduction for fans of isometric-style action RPG's. Developed by Runic Games in 2012 as a more polished and refined version of its previous incarnation (Torchlight), it is widely hailed and beloved by scores of fanatical gamers (well over 3 million+) for its many favorable similarities to the equally popular Diablo series.

The true hallmark of this title however, is that the sprawling world it offers to you on a very reasonably priced silver platter is a gorgeously inviting one awaiting to be explored to its fullest....tempting you with countless secrets to uncover & treasures to collect. In fact there is more loot to be found hidden within its myriad of locations than you could possibly wrap your mind around. It's easily one of those gems with which you can sink hundreds of hours into, since it offers level randomization for enhanced replayability inside of its open world system...one which includes weather as well as day/night cycles incidentally.

Gameplay

Featuring a very tight local + online co-op mode (in addition to solo offline play), you'll soon notice that you will be introduced to a diverse bounty of seemingly never-ending quests & side-quests given to you by those who require your assistance in one way or another. And fortunately, you'll have a ferocious pet by your side to help out in battle as needed, one who even possesses its own inventory incidentally.

In addition to the exploration and loot collecting, your primary objective will be to battle against a wide assortment of variously menacing monsters as you gradually level up your character with more skills, gold, and gear during this compelling campaign. Action is very fluid, brisk, and energetic...with a satisfying number of both weapon upgrades and weapon types (including melee & guns) to keep you more than entertained.

Both your mana (ie. energy) and health bars will be depleted during combat, and must be replenished as necessary with collected vials which can be used up at any time.

Character customization is present, although somewhat limited and basic in scope I felt. It's probably the most glaring aspect of the game which could have been improved further still. Nonetheless, it is still present at least, and you'll have your choice of either male/female characters spread across 4 distinct classes: Embermage, Outlander, Berserker, Engineer.

Level design was quite impressive & varied in an overall sense, with some specific areas like the dungeons being especially atmospheric. It was quite a joy for me to explore every single nook & cranny of each individual section traversed as I hunted around for items to collect between waves of enemies....who themselves were sufficiently unique enough throughout the campaign so as to not feel repetitious in any way.

There is just so very much to do in the game, and even after investing a few quality hours into it, there was an undeniable feeling that I've still only barely scratched the surface as to what awaits me further into its story.

Graphics

What I especially appreciated about the presentation, is that this world is surprisingly vibrant in color as opposed to being dreary & muted looking in appearance as some other such similar games are. Which is then reinforced furthermore by the distinctly cartoon-style graphics found here. This in turn is all neatly tied together by a very well-done lighting system which somehow breathes a sense of undeniable realism into this magical place. All in all, it is quite pleasant on the eyes and sports a unique charm to it. And best of all, there are an ample number of graphics options available for fine-tuning your display preferences.

Audio

Voice acting was definitely above par, and sounded quite slick for the many varied characters present. (Although at times I felt that your character's obsession with his depleted mana levels was a bit overboard and overly-repetitive!). Whereas music itself was mellow & symphonic in nature...wonderfully balancing out the mood of each particular scene in an appropriate manner. And finally, sound effects were more than adequate in accomplishing their task of enhancing immersion...especially so with delightful effects such as thunder reverberating through the rainy night, for example.

Steamified?

It fully is, and includes both trading cards and a whopping 119 achievements to be unlocked.

DLC

None available.

Mods

The vast collection of available mods via the Steam Workshop is where this game truly shines like no other. There are literally hundreds of them to choose from in every possible category imaginable, and quite honestly you could find pretty much anything your little heart desires here.

Verdict - 9/10

Torchlight II has to be one of the best values out there in ARPG's...because while it only costs a fraction of what its pricier triple-A competitors do, it nonetheless very much competes as one, and more importantly, feels like one with its overhauled & redesigned user-interface which was a breeze to use. Accessibility is fantastic here as well, showcasing a streamlined and mostly straight-forward character leveling system which I greatly appreciated. Because being hopelessly confused inside of skill trees is not my personal idea of a fun time, and here, they most certainly get it right in steering the focus onto actual gameplay instead.

And along with it multiple difficulty settings, just about anyone can enjoy what it has to offer...from the very casual side of the spectrum for those who simply wish to explore its scenery, all the way up to the no-nonsense hardcore setting for those veterans out there who wish to master its more subtle nuances.

All in all, Torchlight II has underwent quite a lot of refinement to date, and runs at fantastic framerates even on less than cutting-edge hardware.

But most of all, this is an exciting world to step inside of and one which you can very much have a great time with since there is always something interesting to do along with an accompanying sense of accomplishment felt as each goal is successfully completed...and that is why...

I'll gladly rate this one a 9/10

Pros:

- Many hours of fun with lots to do and much to explore
- Impressively designed & vast isometric world with vibrantly colorful aesthetics
- Wonderfully implemented dynamic zoom camera
- Nice selection of weapons + gear
- Can play as both male or female
- Great value for the purchase price
- Rebindable keys
- Impressive amount of adjustable graphics options
- Local/online co-op + offline single-player
- Steam achievements + trading cards
- Countless mods available via the Steam Workshop

Cons:

- Character customization system could be more robust
- Some of the character speech is repeated a bit too often

This game is a fun cartoonie hack and slash game. It does not live up to some of the larger tittles but it can be a great way to kill a weekend. This game was great up until i found a few bugs that basicly gave me anything i wanted or needed. I dont normaly cheat or take shortcuts, but it was hard to resist once i was god. I played a few different characters and would say this game is only great its first time playing.

6/10 because i did find a few bugs and glitchs, but the art style was nice, the combat was fun and generaly is was an all around decent game.
