Steam Workshop

Torchlight 2 now fully supports Steam Workshop. A new launcher synchronizes any mods you have subscribed to, and lets you customize their activation state and loading priority. In addition, when playing Internet games in the lobby, you will be able to filter modded games by mod combination, and with a single button click, subscribe to those mods. Torchlight 2 will then restart, synchronize them, and activate them before returning you to the game.

When playing modded games, you can view your mod history, any previously played mods, and the impact disabling mods may have on your character.

We've tried to make the process as seamless as possible, with a focus on allowing modded multiplayer games with a minimum of fuss.

GUTS

GUTS is our in-house development tool, now fully integrated with Steam Workshop. You can publish directly to Steam Workshop when you compile your mod, making it available immediately for others to play.

We've also added a special tool to GUTS designed to convert pre-GUTS mods into the official mod format, with an eye toward making the transition much easier for our ambitious early modders.

You can learn more about using GUTS here.

New Content

This release also includes new game content!

  • The NetherRealm tileset - new NetherRealm dungeons can be found via portals throughout the world
  • New Monsters
  • New armor sets
  • New weapons
  • New pets - including the Headcrab!
  • New endgame map content
  • Some additional new dungeons in New Game plus modes in large overworld areas

About This Game

The award-winning action RPG is back, bigger and better than ever! Torchlight II takes you back into the quirky, fast-paced world of bloodthirsty monsters, bountiful treasures, and sinister secrets - and, once again, the fate of the world is in your hands!
Torchlight II captures all the flavor and excitement of the original game - while expanding the world and adding the features players wanted most, including online and LAN co-op multiplayer. Torchlight II is fast, fun, and filled to the brim with action and loot. Adventure solo or online with your friends!

Key Features:

  • Customizable Characters - Players will create and customize a character from one of four brand new classes. Each class can be played as either male or female, with customized cosmetic features and looks to make each individual character stand out. All new skills and loot give loads of opportunity for unique character builds.
  • Moddability - TorchED, the Torchlight II editor, will give players the ability to create their own mods, adding even more content to the world. Have your friends download the same mod and play together. TorchED will be available as a separate download very shortly after launch.

  • New Game Plus - In New Game Plus, the game's not over until you say it is. Once you've beaten Torchlight II's primary campaign, you can start again with the same character for a significantly greater challenge. You'll keep all of the skills, gold, and gear you worked so hard for!
  • Pets & Fishing - These popular features make their return in Torchlight II in improved form. More choices, better effects, and your pet will still make the run to town to sell your loot so you don’t have to.

(I try to be 100% honest in my reviews. Enjoy!)

Torchlight II is an action/RPG/hack n' slash game set in an extremely colorful and fictional world. I played the first game on the Xbox and absolutely loved it, and in many ways, Torchlight II picks up the slack where the first game didn't.

In terms of story, both gams are lacking. MINOR SPOILER: In the first game, one of the allies you make in the game injects himself with Ember and becomes the main bad guy. (I believe his name is the Alchemist.) In the sequel, the Alchemist returns and burns Torchlight, so you have to go and defeat him again. Along the way, you will find sidequests and bosses to fight that will help you level up so you can defeat the next boss, level up, defeat the next boss, etc. While this main seem boring and repetitive, in the eight hours I've played the game Torchlight II has never felt tedious or exhausting. (Only recently it has become slightly annoying due to enemies called Sandrats that are SO HARD TO KILL.) Other than that, the bosses always offer up a new spin and are just enough to keep you on your toes.

Where Torchlight II shines from its predecessor is the revamped menus. It's so easy to find loot and determine if it's better than yours or not, find if weapons do more damage than the one you have, etc. You also have the ability to have two sets of weapons. (I prefer having a ranged set and a melee set, but do whatever you want if you buy this.) The customization of characters is fairly extensive, especially with the added pets you can have to help you. And I must say, the pets are EXTREMELY helpful.

Other small fixes include better warning systems on Trapped Chests. (Fans of the first game will get what I mean,) as well as more mana abilites that will allow you to take out several enemies at once, and also some very wide open areas where you can free people from slave caravans, take on monsters, and if you're lucky, find a Phase Beast that will give you a Phase Portal. (Warning: Entering a Phase Portal will take you to a fairly challenging arena battle, but the loot is incredible.)

My only complaint about Torchlight II, and this may just be a glitch for me, but recently I have been collecting loot that is WAY out of my level range. I don't know if I missed a couple of sidequests that would have pushed me to a higher level to get better equipment. I wouldn't think they would make the sidequests necessary for leveling up in the main quests, because they are supposed to be bonus things for XP and so on.

10/10
Better Than Torchlight
Fun And Challenging
May Get Repetitive
Minor Leveling Issues

I hope this review helps you make your decision!

I cannot reccomned this game enough! It's really engaging, has excellent animation/character design, and is totally appropriate (no sex scenes, girls dressed like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s, or bad language). The story is so interesting and unique. Not to mention, I love the fact that your character is so customizable and constantly evolving. I got it on sale like most people but I would gladly buy this game at full price any day.

The game is already very enjoyable without any workshop content. With 4 classes, and 4 different play styles the game already has decnt replay value. Although, since there is a decent amount of workshop content you can change the game so much, allowing you to customize it to your perfect RPG.

I got Torchlight II about 18 hours ago...
...46% into my achievements, I thought it had only been three hours.

This game brings me back to the sleepless nights of 2001, balancing the only time I could game (11pm-4am) and high school wrestling. It's Diablo II in nearly all things but the lore, and not counting the lore, it's actually more in line with the core of the series than Diablo III is. The game was made possible by some of the co-founders of Blizzard North, and I tend to enjoy games made from ex-Blizzard people based in Seattle for the last 12 or so years. I didn't enjoy Diablo III for various reasons, and haven't been around the Blizzard bandwagon for over a decade.

I got Torchlight II for less than 3 US Dollars. It took a Steam Summer Sale for me to jump in. But if I had known it was this good I wouldn't have hesitated paying full price at release.

I grabbed a bunch of highly rated triple-A titles over the week, and I'm talking about Torchlight II...

If your a fan of the diablo 1 & 2 and your looking for an alternative to diablo 3.
Then look no further torchlight 2 will be a game you will want to play.

Sadly there are few things which prevent it's from achieving a masterful status.
The lore of torchlight 2 is not that interesting and cutscene are reminess of bad cartoon network show.
The voice over is not that great and the story it self is something we have seen a 1000 time.

However the pet system, looting gear and the Master Full soundtrack will keep you entertain till the end

7.9/10 Verdict: Torchlight 2 should satified your looting needs just dont expect the quality of a Blizzard Game.

Deciding to re-review this game now that I'm abit older and the game's been out for quite awhile. Torchlight II is the definite successor to the original game which played a lot more like a hidden continuation of Fate in some sense. This game isn't very much different in terms of gameplay, so if you didn't quite like how the original played out...you might not enjoy this one to much. Thankfully however, this game now comes with its own Workshop which is still very active to this day. With the community coming up with more and more ways to expand and improve upon this already fairly massive game, there's nearly endless mounds of playtime. To prove this, I have nearly two hundred hours dumped into this game. I regret no wasted moment of my life, but on to the actual review.

Gameplay - Like I said before, the gameplay isn't very new. It's a slightly improved version of the originals Diablo/Fate style of hack and slash where you click on opponents to engage in a fight with them while constantly spamming skills with the use of your hotkey bar above your exp gauge and clicking on the ground to move from space to space. You'll be finding tons of loot throughout each area as well as mounds upon mounds of monsters to fight depending on the difficulty. Occasionally you'll get a critical hit on an enemy and make chunks of his body explode over the ground in a bloody mess that's often just so satisfying to see. Then again, I'm just a sadistic ♥♥♥♥ with a bloodlust so don't listen to me. The pet system in this game is much the same as well. You have an interesting variety of choices at first that can expand massively with the use of mods from the workshop. Really, the thing is ♥♥♥♥ing glorious! Back to the topic however, your pets will aid you in battle. Rushing in and clawing, stomping, or ramming your enemies in your defense or sometimes just because they can depending on what you set them to, which brings me to the options below there health bar. You can set your little companions two one of three options. Defensive, Passive, Aggressive. This is useful for coordinating different plans for various areas especially if you carry around a decent amount of a transformation fish you may find yourself stocking up on by grinding in the multiple fishing holes you'll find throughout the game. I don't know how many times I entered a dungeon and found maybe just five to many enemies for my little self to handle around a corner, so I fed a fish to my dog and made him grow into a snarling, badass dragon before setting him to aggressive and watching as he bathed in the organs of the undead!

Sound: I'm not sure where to begin with this game as far as the audio goes. Sometimes the constant noises along with the animations of each attack can get repetitive to listen to and look at for so long. Despite this however, the game has an amazing and beautiful atmospheric soundtrack that blends in perfectly with the scenery and graphics. Enemies sound like there own, and never once did I get annoyed with anything other then the attacks I stated earlier.

Graphics: I'm honestly not sure how to describe these. It's like Dota meets Wakfu. The art looks wonderful and detailed, the animations polished and smooth. The weapons can sometimes lose there charm in appearance due from more then a few looking the exact same, but there's always enchantments for that and its hardly an issue when considering everything else around you. Enemies have there own personalities and feel to them as well as movements occasionally. Aside from a few flaws, the graphics are perfect!

Overall: Torchlight II is a very fun ever-changing experience that fans of Diablo, Fate, or even Van Hellsing should be able to get into rather easily. With the shear amount of loot, action, management, and planning you'll be doing; its impossible not to sink more then ten or multitudes of more hours into this title before putting it down and eventually starting it up right back again. It's timeless, get while you can. 9/10

I didn't even realize I had over 300 hours in this game until I decided to write this review. That's how fast time flies with it.

It has depth; it has fun; it has character. And most of all — a feature that separates it from most ARPGs out there — it's rewarding. You can reach level 100 with a character without hundreds of hours of mindless grinding. You can get rewarded for intentiveness with builds. You can play however you like.

It does lack in a few departments, namely, some of the lore and bosses are shoddy. However, the sheer number of brilliant design decisions in this game in terms of character progression, gear management and peripheral activities greatly ouweighs its shortcomings. Give it an honest try, and you won't regret it.

Great game for oldschool Diablo fans with nice cartoon graphic. The combat system is classic hack and slash one, but there is a big freedom in talent point spending which make this game more personal for every player :)

I really enjoyed this game. Playing solo or with a friend - it can prove to be challenging. Graphics are pretty, story line is interesting and the gear skins are nice. My only gripe is with the lack of inventory space. Granted, once you get your gear and all gemmed up there isn't much of a reason to keep new items, but I like to save things for the hell of doing so.

One of the best features is allowing your pet to go sell your drops while you remain in the dungeon.
After beating the game, buying maps to replay for a quick or more difficult run keeps you coming back for more.

I played most of my time multiplayer but still a fair amount of solo play.

I love how fun this game is, and the fact that you can keep "going back to the beginning" and play through the areas again. The playability for this game is a ten out of a ten. I would definitely recommend this game for anyone looking for a fun game that's relatively easy to play.
