Fantastically satisfying & well-designed // Recommended even for those who don't necessarily care for the Batman franchise

+ Voice-acting is spectacular; dialogue stays true to the lore, and lines are competently delivered
+ Combat system is simple, fluid and enjoyable; attacks are well-rendered, feel as though they have weight to them, and offer the player an opportunity for great finesse
+ Detective mode is an excellent mechanic, and adds to gameplay
+ Myriad unlockables and collectibles scattered throughout, particularly the riddler trophies, many of which are very challenging to find & collect
+ Mechanics are refreshingly varied and intuitively introduced; the way that Batman's utilities work to influence the environment is applaudable in its implementation
+ Devs showed great care in the nuances of design; Batman's suit shows gradual accumulation of wear and damage
+ Platforming mechanics are near perfect, and the game does much to encourage their utilization; problems can often be tackled in many different ways depending on how the environment is utilized, & this is even better stressed, given the open nature of the environment
+ Audio design is superb
+ Environmental detail is excellent; the devs clearly took great care in modeling the city, & the quality really comes through in the final product
+ The game's engine runs smoothly and efficiently
+ Stealth & silent takedowns are heavily encouraged, & feel rewarding to implement
+ Catwoman is playable in several areas of the campaign; she handles very differently from Batman, allows for greater freedom in exploring the environment, & feels unique in combat
+ Radio chatter is persistent throughout the open map, & are very entertaining to listen to; does well to increase a sense of immersion
+ Involving & well-paced plot
+ A veritable plethora of side-missions, additional game-modes, & other extra content

- Tracking radio broadcast signals feels tedious, & it is very easy to become turned around while looking for the correct entry into the area the game intends for one to proceed through

"Could anything be better than being Batman and having a whole city to explore as well as solving a mystery in an insane asylum overrun by its inmates?" /r/pcmasterrace Group

Batman Arkham City as one of those games that is almost perfect in every way. You don't have to like Batman to love this game. Basically the point is: BUY IT!

Now here for the full review

I won't go into the story much as I don't want to spoil it but what I can tell you is that its almost perfect. Way better than its predecessor and possibly the best in the series. The main premisis of it all is that you are taken into Arkham City, a prison filled with batman's famous villians such as the Joker, Two-Face and the Penguin. Since this is the goty version, you'll switch between Batman and Catwomen throughout various bits of the game. While some argue that there is the occasional plot hole, to me, its perfect.

As mentioned before, Batman Arkham City has many of Batmans famous villians, but also people like Alfred and Robin. Batman is still Batman, (Duh!) being a badass and pretty much wiping the floor off everyone. The game also takes a unique road to fully understanding the villians. Different parts of the game focus on the particular villian but never makes it get old. Only negative point worth mentioning is, for god sake Catwoman zip up that jacket!

In my opinion its just as good as Arkham Asylum. Beat up one guy to another but with added moves that you can unlock as you level up. Grappling from building to building makes you feel like Batman! Or it did to me anyway. Gliding around the place is also fun. One of Batman's villians, The Riddler, has added trophies and riddles for you to find and solve. Plus with the gadgets such as batarangs and freeze grenades to add a twist when fighting, all of which can be upgraded when you level up. So really the gameplay is a lot like Asylum's but slightly better.

For me it wasn't that hard to grasp into the game. The gameplay mechanics are simple enough and since the game pretty much helps you when fighting by locking on one person to another it isn't really that difficult to get to know it. You can always make it a bit more challenging by increasing the difficulty but even then you get used to that pretty much easily.

My favourite thing in this game is the soundtrack. One of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Classic Batman music as I call it. Some tracks are intense and get you ready for combat, some are calm and tranquil, all fitting the right locations. Nothing more to say really. Just beautiful music.

- Excellent Story
- Interesting Characters
- Superb Soundtrack
- Never Rushed
- Amazing ( but sad ) Ending
- Sometimes hilarious knock out animations. XD
- High Replayability Value

- Camera Positioning can be awkward sometimes.
- Sometimes you can be in a posistion where you have no idea what to do but look it up on the internet.

Personnal Recommendation

I'd say, if you haven't already, buy this game! Doesn't matter if its on sale or not, buy it! You don't have to like Batman to love this game! One of my favourite games of all time. 10/10.

The second game of the series which delivered something much more than just an open world Batman game. It immereses with its shady and illusive atmosphere which is combined with the great characters of the DC universe.

Arkham City is set in the aftermath of the events which occured in Arkham Asylum. Events which caused everyone to question the safety of Gotham in the eyes of criminal society. The game begins with Bruce Wayne being captured by Hugo Strange and sent to his facility, the super prison of Gotham, of which he has full control over and plans to initiate a secret plan called "Protocol 10". Batman (Bruce Wayne) seeks to find out what Protocol 10 is whilst bumping into familiar faces from the DC universe.

The main story line is solid, coupled with great side-missions which will keep you occupied. The fighting style is transfered from Arkham Asylum and improved upon whilst the open world is even bigger which promises a lot more content and playability. The characters are beyond amazing, they are sinister, funny, sarcastic and interesting. If you're a fan of the Joker, Penguin and Ra's al Ghul then you won't be dissapointed.

This game is an overall improvement of the series; If you've already played the first one and thinking about getting this one, I urge you to hurry up and pick up this amazing open-world fighting game; You won't be dissapointed.
