About the Game

Realm of the Mad God is the first ever free to play Bullet Hell MMO. Team up with dozens of players and battle through the Realm of the Mad God, Oryx. With a retro 8-bit style, Realm is an evolution of traditional MMO gameplay. A dozen classes and hundreds of items to discover means Realm is easy to play but difficult to master. Players can jump in Realm for 5 minutes or stay online for hours because there is nothing to install or download.

Key Features

  • Action combat! No turn-based battles here, only skilled running and gunning.
  • Epic boss battles. Navigate demented waves of bullets from nasty demons.
  • True cooperative play. All experience is shared and you win by playing together.
  • Great 8-bit art: Retro styling straight from the 8-bit era.
  • Over a dozen unique character classes. Play as a powerful wizard, a clever mystic, a brawling warrior.
  • Loot! Hundreds of weapons, potions, armors, and rings.
  • PermaDeath. Dying well means something in Realm. Earn fame if you survive for long enough and kill enough monsters.
  • Sheep. The sheep say 'Baa.'

At one point this was my fav game ive ever played and then the devs got bought by kabam and kabam made this a pay to win like no other. and pretty much all the old players quit, and you can tell kabam only wants money from this. sad to see that happen to one of my use to be fav games.

Game is decent, unfortunately updates consistantly wipe progress, so expect that. Publishers are known to not give people microtransaction refunds after a character wipe.

Every time there has been a character wipe, they say they will correct it next time, but they never do and it's been this way for years. It's come to the point that people just accept it and most people don't even complain about it anymore. Unfortunately it's not something you will see listed on the store page or in their microtransaction shop.

Recently there is a new issue with this game. Some steam users that didn't link their account to an email are no longer allowed to access their RotMG account. I happen to be one of these users, yet another slap in the face. As far as I know this only is affecting steam users and those affected have no way to play the game through their steam account, they can't even start over.

If you are absolutely certain you won't be spending a dime on this game, it might be worth a try if you like dungeon crawlers, it's about as good as dungeonland but with worse graphics. Otherwise stay away, spending cash for temporary items is no fun, losing all your hard work is even less fun still.

The good
-Fun to play (for the first 20ish hour's)
-It's hard (but not rewarding)
-Cool art style

The bad
-100% pay to win---Any and almost all item's can be purchased in the ingame Nexus shop for real money, if you want to pay 10$ every time you die you can restock all that you lost.
- you must grind grind grind to get any item you want, since the drop's are random (and rare) there is a goood chance you will not find what your looking for.
-boring (see above for reason)
-Little backstory
-'permadeath' (when you die you die for good, with no way to reclame your item's. Unlike in other "hard" death based game's Dark souls, Rogue Legacy etc.)
-The theme song loops so after the first 400 time you will just turn off the music

3/10
