The game WAS amazing....back then.

Before when Wild-Shadow-Studios owned the game the game was made for the players. As soon as kabam took over they completly ruined the game. To explain what they ruined: Ruined Ammys making them scammys, Making UT's untradeable, so we cant make back your ingame currency and finnaly, Making it pay to win-what do i mean by pay-to-win? they have implemented the feature to get items with real money, which makes the game no fun, as newbies will completely mistake the game and over take us long time players.if you dont pay you wont win.

Over all if you think im out of my mind, im not, ive played the game for over 600 hours, Im a red star, and ive lost over 20 max stat charecters most of them where 6/8 and gave over 2000 fame. I also own a guild.

Before when Wild Shadow Studios owned it- 120/10-------------Now because of Kabam- 4/10------Because of this i do not reccomend this game anymore.

Used to play this back on Kongregate (I believe it was on there) and a bit when it came on Steam. Was probably the best perma-death RPG game you could find. Didn't have demanding PC requirements, cool and clean pixelated visuals, easy-to-pick up hard-to-master bullet hell-style gameplay. Overall, it was great fun and I enjoyed my time with it.

So I thought this game had died out a while ago (some time since I had played it regularly), but it turns out the game is still going strong...really strong actually. I was pretty excited and saw that this game has the VERY POSITIVE rating on Steam. As I was strolling down to read some of the top reviews, I noticed a new publisher called Kabam in the game's description area. Interesting. So I finally make it to the reviews and what I see is a bunch of negative reviews about how pay-2-win this game is after Kabam took over.

I couldn't believe it was THAT bad so I tried it out myself a few weeks ago. Downloaded it through Steam, loaded it up.....Wow. Another example of an amazing game ruined by greedy companies tainting the free-2-play model. No one wonder people are hating on free-2-play games when we got so much greedy companies these days.

But Kabam really butchered this game. Everything good requires money. Skill is irrevelant. I can't believe they actually managed to take the skill factor out of a bullet-hell game. What's the world coming to....

I.Rather.Have.Perfect.World.Own.This.....Hell.I.Rather.Have.Nexon.Own.This.Than.Kabam

Never again Kabam...never again.

Alright. This game. I used to play it on its website, but I downloaded it on here to review it.
Realm of the Mad God used to be one of the games I played the most. However, when the company Kabam bought it, it instantly became a store. Kabam are just greedy, money grabbing rip-offs, and they are the exact reason I have stopped playing this game. The main lobby is just a store, showing off weapons, armor, pets, and other things that can only be bought with coins, which can be bought with real money, or can be earned from dieing with a decent to good character who needs good stats to actually earn the coins.
Feel free to play this game, but prepare your ♥♥♥♥ for micro-transactions and updates that only benifit people who love to spend money.

“The key isn’t about how many users you have,” said Kabam Chief Executive Kevin Chou. “It’s about how much money you are
dragons of atlantismaking.”

I think that clearly states how bad the current company owning the game is doesn't it?

Welcome to shop'n'waste simulator. I'd add a year behind that sentence but i suppose it be that forever.

Don't bother downloading

Ah the game of has been. You couldnt imagine the time I put into this game and how much fun I used to have, Apart from the depression of my lost warriors, and the extremely addicting aspects. I remember the "Good Ol' Days of RotMG" when you could go and defeat bosses with friends and people you didnt know. Now its more of, "Buy this pack of gold coins for 20 dollars and we'll add in a loaf of bread to feed to your pet tree." This game is most DEFINITLY A PAY TO PLAY. To get more than 1 character you have to pay AT LEAST 20 dollars. Also adding that most of this game is now trolling, theres a real fun way to get angry by getting monsters dragged onto you and killed and then Bam! You never see your precious Wizard, warrior, archer, whatever the hell you had ever again. As you may have been able to tell this game can be depressing because of the Perma-Death theme. To add this game has the most lag filled servers you may ever play on. (More ways to die of course.) To conclude, I highly suggest avoiding this game if you enjoy you're life and dont want to get sucked into the never ending black-hole of 'Realm of the Mad God.'

Okay, so I've played this game for over 1,000 hours, and probably a few hundred more on the browser/flash player. This game has some awesome things in it, but they are usually outweighed by the cons:

PROS:
Classes are unique and most have team roles
Lots of monsters and enemies
Dungeons are quite fun to rush, and they are also fun to run with a group of friends.
Feels rewarding to get good loot/beat a hard/solo a tough dungeon/etc
Satisfying to blast through hordes of baddies within a matter of seconds (on maxed characters)
Good guild system.

CONS:
Since Kabam bought the game, it's been mega P2W. To even have any fun you have to buy AT LEAST 1 extra character slot, and even then you need to buy vault chests (~5 dollars each) to store 8 ITEMS EACH. Character slots cost even more, and they suck you out of money too much.

Pets. They are unbalanced, and even though the higher levels look cool, again, P2W. You have to pay gold or fame to feed your pet, and while the fame is free, it usually requires hours of grinding monsters and dungeons and then suicide to get fame, and the fame prices are ridiculously high on the higher tier pets. Oh, and did I mention you also have to pay for the food itself? Yes, you can feed the pet your unwanted items but even high tier items have puny amounts of feed power, which, in the long run, costs you even more money than buying some food.

Some classes are unbalanced-Knight. Priest. The Knight is a fun class to play, but it has rediculous defense and health. What makes it worse is that about 25% of all players I've seen are knights, which makes getting loot hard because the knights camp out around the boss, permastunning it, and getting all the damage. On the other hand, priests are completely underpowered, having NO REWARD for healing other players and the lowest damage output in the game. Players should be rewarded for being a healer. I think they should add a damage boost or some sort of reward for priests because right now, priests can't get loot. Ever.

Permadeath is okay, but I shouldn't lose something that I PAID ACTUAL MONEY FOR. (Backpacks, dyes, etc.) You can buy equipment in the Nexus, but it's ridiculously expensive. (8 bucks for a staff that I'm going to lose when I die and I can get in the game for free? No thanks.) In fact, we've asked Kabam so many times NOT to put tops in the nexus, and what do they do? They put tops in the nexus. Not only did they make them almost twice as expensive as 1 tier below them, they ruin the specialness(that's a word, right?)of actually getting the gear legit and now any noob with a fat wallet can look like a "pro" by buying these tops.

Also, the new sprites that Kabam made look terrible. I'm sorry but compare the Sword/Shield of the Mad God to an original item..

BIG BIG BIG CON:
Kablem

Anyway, this game is fun until you die and lose acutal money and hours of work, but it's not fun for a new player. Wandering around on a level 3 wizard trying to survive is not fun. Once you get wealthy though, the game is better. Although it's a fun game, I don't recommend you play this. The frustration just isn't worth it.

tl;dr The game used to be good but the new company that owns it, Kabam transformed it into a pay to win game rather than having players rely on skill.

As an experienced player of this game I cannot honestly not recomend it. Ever since Kabam took it over it has transformed the game from an awesome fantasy rogue like bullet hell, to a generic pay to win mmo. Everytime I play it I feel like it's missing a purpose, and that all I'm doing is running around with underpowered gear attempting to kill bosses, and often failing in doing so because of the way Kabam has remade the game. It is only really fun if you play it with friends, or if you play it for about 10-20 minutes, which really breaks my heart because it used to be one of my all time favorite mmo's back before I ahd a nice computer. 3/10

I'm going to be honest.. This game is pretty great don't get me wrong. But honestly it's not worth it.. If you understand what i mean, this game is just getting worse and worse and time goes by Kabam is just shredding this game. The community has gone to trash. It's so bad that there is more hackers than legit players, and Kabam fears losing money like a prositute fears a STI screening. ( Like i said don't get me wrong there is lots of fun to be made playing this game ) but it's just not worth it.

-So many disappointing updates
-So many hackers
-So many Microtransactions
.......Bust most of all so many good memories.

Fun... one day it was. Not only has the new owner of this company, Kabam, has not only turned this game into a cold-hard pay-to-win, moreover it is extremely careless about anyone who plays this game. The game is infested by many 'hacked clients' of people dashing trough walls and using various other illegit tricks, sometimes just to take away your chances at phat loot, sometimes purposely drag huge mobs of enemies on you trying to get that character of yours killed. Let's not even mention people sitting on the most powerful enemies in the game, taking no damage at all, and calling people to teleport for interesting stuff - instead they teleport to an instadeath. another character wasted.
If you would be able to look past all these downsides there is plenty of fun to be found, and i have found it, before this curtain of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ appeared. If i was to start over, i would most definately not do it.

The classic story of a F2P game that is actually good, ruined by the greedy pigs who made it. Just another play to win / pay to have any fun game. To make another character I have to pay £6 or 1000 "gold" as is the ingame currency. All classes locked unless I pay to play with them or get stupidly good with the default class. Best gear, weapons and pets cost money. ♥♥♥♥ you, you greedy ♥♥♥♥ing scum...

This is a top down free to play MMO mouse aim shooter with a simple art style. It has been around for a few years as a Flash game. You start the game easy enough, by selecting from unlocked classes such as rogue, warrior, priest, archer and so on. Each class plays the same, you fire projectiles. Have a sword? You shoot projectiles. The only difference between the classes are the stats and the equipment they can use. You can unlock more classes when you reach certain levels with the base classes. Each enemy gives you some minimal experience and leveling up will only improve your stats. There are no new spells and no choice of improvement. It all feels very dull and too simple for a MMO.

The controls are like every other mouse aim shooter, arrows to move with mouse aim and click to shoot. You have a special ability and potions too, but for the most part you can just use your normal attacks. Speaking of the mouse aim, it feels very inaccurate. I can stand still, fire the projectile and the projectile will miss even when I shouldn't. Maybe there is an accuracy stat or something. It feels odd when enemies very accurate. Luckily you are quick enough to dodge projectiles. Again, maybe its a stat and I need to have better gear, but there is nothing on the equipment that shows accuracy, just range and attack power.

There are a lot of enemies, each with different stats and attack patterns. For the most part they have enemies simply shoot at you. Most have single shots, others have double and triple spreading shots. Still some fire a sort of 360 degree bullet shield preventing anything from getting close. The bosses aren't that different from normal enemies. They just have larger sprites with other creatures swarmed around them.

There are quests in the game, but I mean that in the vaguest sense of the word. All quests seem to be kill the big monster. No one tells you to. You just do it. The game points out the direction of the big monster when you enter the location.

The maps feel a bit jumbled randomly with trees and foliage with a path drawn through the map. It just feels like lazy or quick map design and not 'randomly generated.' Some enemies will drop portals to different areas which is a fun feature, but since the areas look just thrown together its always just another randomly thrown together area. You have a mini map that will reveal more as you explore, but if you leave an area and return, you need to explore it again to show it on your mini map. At any time out in the wilderness, you can instantly warp back to the town / nexus with the click of a button.

The locations might look like a jumbled mess, but the town / nexus looks great, but its all just a big store to sell you stuff. All of the stores have items visibly showing you everything so you need to walk over them instead of having an easy to use menu. Another problem is to see the stats of the item you need to hover your mouse over the 'buy it' button. Don't accidentally click that button though. You cannot sell equipment, so you're forced to drop it or trade it with other players, but for the most part the equipment feels useless when enemies drop it all. Plus players are kind enough to just give stuff for free since everything is so abundant.

Normal games would have you kill enemies for gold, but in Realm of the Mad God, you need to buy gold with real money of course. Everything is right there in town / nexus for you to buy after a brief tutorial area. What do you buy with gold? Name changes, more characters, armor, weapons, rings, boxes with random items, keys, pets, extra storage, building materials and everything. Did I mention that when you die you lose all progress and items? So if you spend real life money into a free game and you die, you've just lost everything. Do you need gold to have fun? No. The town / nexus has plenty of people selling gold via their website for real money and it floods the chat for some servers drowning out any real discussion.

This feels like a really dull game that is out for your money. Not just that, but it seems hastily thrown together. The quick simple art style, the slow grind for experience, the awful map design, no real quests, the laggy input, and the inaccurate aiming, all makes me not want to be in the game let alone buy anything in the game with real money.
