About This Game

Strategic and tactical battles for world domination on, under and above the open sea. Take command of the contemporary navies and air forces of all the powers in the North Atlantic region to defeat your enemies.

Naval War: Arctic Circle is a Real Time Strategy (RTS) game where the player battles enemy naval and aerial forces for power and ultimate world domination. The game includes real units from the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Russia, the Scandinavian countries and others. The game play takes place along the Norwegian and British coast, through Iceland and Greenland all the way to the North Americas and the North West Passage.

Naval War: Arctic Circle has two full campaigns along with skirmish missions and online competitive play. Ultimately, Naval War: Arctic Circle tells a story about a power struggle for control of the world’s resources and supply lines in the Polar Regions.

Key features:

  • Two campaign modes, telling a narrative from Russian and NATO sides
  • On-line play through LAN as well as over the Internet
  • Enormous area of game play space, with over 35 million square km of open sea and coast line
  • Extreme long range guided and self-guided weaponry; if you can detect the enemy, it will be possible to strike
  • Vertical game play, from orbit aerial units to the bottom of the ocean floor using a seamless zoomable map of the entire North Atlantic Ocean
  • Detection and evasion focus with realistic sensory measures and countermeasures yielding a strategic game experience based on stealth rather than head on tactical battle
  • Great detail in unit management with fewer but more powerful units making selection and management more distinguishable and less cluttered with an unparalelled level of individual detail
  • Realistic weather model, with real world implications for tactical and strategical deployment of resources at hand

This game is not for everyone, but for those who have a serious interest in military equipment, tactics, and strategy (especially sea and air based), this is more than worth the £15, and unlike its competitors, it has multiplayer.

Notice that most of the ""helpful"" negative reviews were from people with less than 4 hours gameplay. They are gamers, not simmers, who picked the sim up for novelty, not love of military simulation.
(The ones from people with more gameplay is usually due to PC issues)

NOTE: This game requires a powerful CPU! There is a lot of simulation going on, and if your PC is weak, you will experience freezes. The system requirements listed above are way too low.

What I Like
> Intuitive, easy to use interface
> Great solid simulation of ships, submarines, aircraft, missiles, and weapons
> Scenario editor and workshop integration
> Potential for modding (I'm working on one)
> Smooth realtime, not interval based like competitors
> Functional multiplayer
> Most, if not all, bugs were fixed in patches

What I Don't Like
> Limited range of units
> The map is only Northern Europe, Greenland, and Eastern Canada. Nothing south of Belgium
> In some places, realism is sacrificed for balance
> Limited default scenarios (but there are lots on Steam workshop)

What I Don't Mind, But Other People Might not Like
> Rare freezing (temporary, usually 15 seconds or so) when lots of units being simulated
> There is no savegame function (GET OVER IT PEOPLE. JUST GET OVER IT!)
> 3D graphics are simplistic (it's a £15 SIM, not a flashy £50 game!)

Conclusion: DO NOT BUY unless you love modern miltiary strategy/tactics. It's niche as niche can be, NOT for everyone, but if you're an armchair admiral, you'll love NWAC.

I wanted this to be a great game, small developer with the freedom to get this right, I wanted it to be as good as Harpoon was over a quarter century ago.

It was nothing like it. I simply can not recommend this - buggy, not engaging and at times you really wonder what the hell the developers were trying to achieve (sorry if you read this).

Get away from this game if you can. It totally suck i bought it during the full price because i though it will at least close to fleet command which is no. The game is totally full of bug and developer never fix it because they said it out of product life time.

There is no save during the mission it some crazy but it true that you can't save during the mission and many mission was insane. I'm so get sick of this game.

There is no free mission or skirmish like fleet command the model detail is lower than fleet command than release before it many year. :(

This game is garbage don't buy any game from this developer even 0.50$ or lower still not worth your time and effort to play this game

I'm warning you

Unfinished, unpatched, no save-game features. A laughable joke, unless you have 12 hours to complete a scenario.

Reminiscent of the Harpoon naval simulation games of old, this is a top product in that vein, being able to control any number of units available in NATO and Russian arsenals in several different Third World War scenarios, with accurate representation of weapon range, ship and aircraft range, and performance.
While the graphics aren't the most current or "next-gen", they do convey the action on the screen in an easily understandable manner.

Naval War is naval strategy game. Which is kind of small niche that already has the Harpoon games and Fleet Command. I never played one of those so I can't compare them. But these games you either like or don't like. What I really disliked about Naval War is the horrible User Interface. Also the resetting of the gamespeed every time a event occurs is really annoying.

The lack of save game functionality and lopsided scenarios make this game frustrating to play.

i diont find that this game is worth 20$ i liked it for the games idea but it wasnt of the quality id have hoped for. it seemed abit cheatp and thrown together last minute in many aspects and the interface could use a complete overhaul. sadly i rgret buying this game as i looked forwards to buying it for so long and kept forgetting to buy it when i had the chance to. but now i just want my money back lol.. id have been ok if the game was priced at 8-9$

Would be a good naval sim simliar to harpoon, except for the small fact there is a crash bug in the game code. Basically, even if you are running one of the most powerful rigs in the northern hemisphere, i seriously doubt you can play later missions without frequent crashes. Couple that with NO save feature, wasted potential is all I can say Naval War Arctic Circle is.

I really thought the game was actually pretty good. Unfortunately that was on the rare occasion that I could finish an hour of play without it freezing, stuttering or crashing to the desktop... and I have a high end machine. I wouldn't mind having the no "in game save feature" as strategy games feel more challenging without that.... but then again... it would be nice if I could pick up where I left off after the game crashed over and over. It has potential, but I can't recommend it until they fix these issues.

I understand what the developers were trying to achieve with this game and I applaud their efforts. That being said, I can't in good faith ever suggest that this game be purchased by anyone. If you really want a properly made naval simulation (with better graphics and depth) I suggest you check out Dangerous Waters.

Buggy game, bad interface, quirky unit behaviors, no support.
Better off playing the older Fleet Command game which, despite its age, is FAR superior.

Great game. just dont play it on a lousy computer with outdated video drivers, like most people do, then blame the game manufacturer.
Great game, and I am still playing it

Lots of potential for the naval fleet command crowd, but the game is unfinished-- and will never be finished.

The fate of the developers remains a mystery, but it could be assumed that the Paradox men caught up with them and threw them out of a plane into the frigid north Atlantic.

Buggy game with a lot of wasted potential. Developer pretty much abandoned the game citing lack of profitability which led to Paradox "discontinuing further development."

Unfinished, broken garbage. Should not be on the Steam Store. As a Harpoon player, incredibly disappointing.
