This is a good game. It might not have some things that many newer FPS games have (such as weapon customization), but that does not really matter. It is fun to mess around with your loadout and become a god of death and destruction by the end of the game. I would recommend this game to any fan of FPS.

wow, this game is really fun, and it looks great, Im enjoying the Hell out of it. it's very easy to get into, I like how you have a large amount of players you can pick in single player, now there aint much multiplayer severs but theres 1 or 2 severs that get 7 to 8 players on it. with me it's fun and I give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5. could of had 5 if multi player was more alive.

Good game that I very much enjoyed. When I see discussions of it, though, the criticisms seem, to me, to be missing actual flaws in the game. Do the enemies respawn more quickly than in other games? Yes. Is it annoying to have your weapons degrade and blow up in your face in critical moments? Sure. But those speak to the realism of the game: when your weapons have seen 5 wars, they're bound to have problems. when you destroy an enemy post but don't occupy it, they'll put new people in it as fast as possible.

As this game is now legendary, I don't see any point going over the oh-so-well-known good points, but will give some criticisms (though I do still recommend this game regardless).

The character choice is purely cosmetic. You get to pick out of a short list of mercenaries, and the only thing that determines is that your choice won't appear as an NPC "buddy" in the game. Otherwise, there's really no difference between Qarbani and Paul and Marty and...

To that end, I was surprised that they didn't include a female choice of player. There are multiple female NPC buddies, but they apparently didn't want to animate even one set of arms for a female choice? This isn't like totally bad nor does it really hurt the game, but it is disappointing.

The story is that you're supposed to be a merc with a singular mission. You are to find and kill the weapons dealer known as "The Jackal". I would usually expect some sort of skiptracing element, where you're actually hunting down the Jackal rather than getting sidetracked and doing missions for the various faction leaders. I know what they were trying to get at... need to make friends with the people who know the Jackal to find his location. It just doesn't make sense. True profesionals would dog him until he's dead. Nothing else.

Driving is very, unbelivably tight and uniform between all cars/trucks. Sure, the bigger trucks go a bit slower, but they handle pretty much identically to the smaller sedan.

And finally, the search for diamond cases is very tedious and generally unncessary.

But still, with all of those flaws... play this game. It's better than FC4 and Primal. 8.5/10

Not the most aesthetically pleasing game out there, but a good game for it's time nonetheless. You're out in the African savannah and other nearby places, killing people, chasing people in cars, killing animals and searching for diamonds. Has fire spreading for grass and trees, the ability to shoot tree limbs off of trees, a decent story and humorous A.I. Fairly different from both the original Far Cry and the later Far Cry games, also more challenging than said installments, because you have to take pills every so often to counter your malaria infection. You have a limited supply of these pills, by the way, so it kind of has a survival aspect. A dated game, but pretty fun.

By no means this is the best Far Cry game in the series. That being said, I have enjoyed this game more than the more recent releases for a couple of reasons. Primarily, this game is more challenging than its newer counterparts. Although the original is possibly the most difficult, I found playing this game on its maximum difficulty to be incredibly rewarding. Between this and in combination with some of the unique mechanics introduced in this game, the experience can be truly both fun and challenging. This is an FPS which, when played on higher difficulties, require having both a plan of attack and the ability to think on your feet. I feel that no game in this series (including the first) captures the sort of unfavorable yet unique situations I often found myself in. This experience is enough to have me recommending the game. However, that isn't to say I don't have any problems with it.

Many of the issues people have with this game can be found in the many other reviews for it. Certain elements bothered me more than others. For instance, the malaria aspect felt poorly implemented and was little more than a tedious mechanic. Forcing me to stop my hike though the jungle to go back to some town and get a tedious mission. This only staving off maybe five episodes of malaria before I would have to do it again. I can see how many people would be put off by respawning guard posts, I for one was at first, until I started playing on the hardest difficulty. From there every encounter became much more of a challenge, not in a struggle to kill them mind you, but in the need to preserve ammo and resources. Often, this would lead me to take other paths instead of the main road. An aspect I enjoyed, especially as the engine is capable of rendering some beautiful environments, even to this day.

Overall, I think this game attempts to bridge the gap from Far Cry 1 to the newer 3&4, a lot of the concepts used here a more fleshed-out in the newer games, yet this game manages to capture a grittiness that I felt the others lacked. If you can look passed the buggy features and feel like a challenge, I recommend getting this game and cranking up the difficulty. I haven't looked into mods but I hear there are some which address a few of the issues I haven't checked the multilayer since back when I played about a year after launch so, I would not expect to find many servers. Although, some of the level editing tools are fantastic, I have to wonder why the community didn't support it more. In all, I recommend this game but, it may be worth waiting for a sale as I got it for 25% of its price about a year ago.

I always had fond memories of the game and so I reinstalled it and tried to give it a shot only to find that it has become unplayable, the resolution automatically scales down to 1600XSomething and it crashes every few minutes effectively ruining the game. What a shame :(

Far Cry 2 is one of the most immersive games I've played. It's a game I've always considered vastly underrated. I would go as far as to say Far Cry 2 is one of my favorite sandbox games period.

Unlike most games Far Cry 2 tries to remain topical and relevant to current day events. The game takes place in an unnamed African country. The government has fallen and guns are worth more than human life. You play as one of several would be assassins sent to kill the Jackal, a notorious arms dealer.

What Far Cry 2 does probably the best out of most sandbox games is it makes you feel like you live in Africa. The game's hud is minimalistic, your health pickups are syrettes of morphene. You're infected with malaria and regularly come down with a fever requiring constant supplies of medicine to avoid dying from. Your guns visually decay and eventually break apart in your hands. The world beautiful, but is always extremely hostile to the player. With long stretches of open land requiring almost constant access to vehicles and guard checkpoints at every corner forcing the player to massacre their way through. I never feel like I'm ever safe or that I'm ever comfortable when playing this game, and it's something that always fascinates me when I play it. I always feel like I'm perpetually on the brink of death in every firefight and I need to just keep pressing on, keep moving forward, and keep my finger on the trigger.

There are hundreds of games that look like you're in a warzone, Far Cry 2 makes you feel like you're in one.

Give me FarCry 2 any day. Destroyable gas stations, respawning checkpoints (I have no idea why people hated these with so much passion. Park the truck, pull out a launcher and blow the ♥♥♥♥ up!!), diamond discoveries, different landscapes with unique terrain. FarCry 3 is like the hot supermodel that doesn't have all the intelligence that a normal girlfriend does: She's great to look at but the depth of conversation and the ability to draw you in are severely lacking. I have an extremely difficult time believing that the main character matured from no combat experience to wiping out an entire cartel.

This was my review for FC3 but I feel it also belongs here. I won't play FC4 and probably won't touch Primal either. FC and FC2 were by far and away the best of the series. What other games allow you to burn dry grasslands to draw out your enemies like the cocaine runners did in Crocodile Dundee 2? None. The AI is spot on in all their responses and for a game this old, they take cover really well. Landscape was incredibly well detailed to the point you would think it's a Bethesda title and this game made you WORK for victory. Shame on all you crybabies that ♥♥♥♥♥ed and moaned about Malaria or jamming guns or respawning guardposts. Y'all missed the damn point of the revolutionary gameplay that made you HUNT your enemy. I felt like a lethal predator sneaking around with my silenced handgun, silenced shotty (Anton Sigur, anyone?), and a flamethrower.

I also learned that the only tool you'll need in life to fix engine, radiator and body damage is a ratchet.

I'm not going to say it's a better game than Far Cry 3, but it's DEFINITELY cooler. Especially now that Ubisoft has milked the FC3 formula so much. I *wish* it was the better game. FC2 is a unique game in a rough and dangerous feeling world.

Still worth a look if you can look past the enemies that constantly respawn at every outpost, the factions that have no impact on gameplay, the fact that you spend half the game driving...

This game is all about the gunplay and I do mean ALL about the gunplay. The missions and the dialouge are highly repeteitive and it's only made worse by the long travel times between objectives interspersed with infinitely respawning enemies who make the long travel times even longer by shooting up your car.

And don't get me started on the story, mainly because there barely is none. It got to be that I started playing it as an RPG, creating my own character and motivations but at the end of the game you're only given two choices on what to do, neither of which fit the character I had created, basically nullifying my whole experience.

The game has its problems but the gunplay is its great redeemer and in this case it's enough.
