Defense Grid: The Awakening is a unique spin on tower defense gameplay that will appeal to players of all skill levels. A horde of enemies is invading, and it's up to the player to stop them by strategically building fortification towers around their base. Beautiful environments, spectacular effects, and a dynamic, engaging soundtrack bring the world to life. The controls are intuitive and the gameplay is deep — the special attacks and properties of each tower work together to provide many ways to succeed.
  • High Replayability There are approximately 8 hours of gameplay in the main storyline, and many hours of play in challenge modes that give players unique starting conditions and objectives. Each game level is very replayable, and can be solved in many different ways, with increasing rewards for improved efficiency.
  • Wide Variety of Enemies Over the course of the game, players battle 15 different enemy types that become increasingly stronger, and employ a variety of strategies in an attempt to bypass the player's defenses. As the levels progress, the enemies become tougher and more difficult to defeat.
  • 20 Unique Levels Defense Grid: The Awakening has 20 unique environments, each with a different placement of roads, tower build locations, and open areas to plan a strategy around.
  • Numerous Tower Options and Upgrades There are 10 different tower types with 3 levels of capability each. Multiplayer: no multiplayer

Tower Defense tells you nothing? Never mind, the principle is easily explained. Through swarms of monsters on a manageable (usually only large screen) map on a tortuous path from A to B. Because the critters B want to destroy, they may well advised not to achieve their goal. Your task is to build defense towers along the path, which then automatically fire on the advancing hordes.

With each mission of the campaign expanded Defense Grid: The Awakening game mechanics to at least one element, often several. Included is everything that has been proven in the genre. When the towers not only more powerful flamethrower, laser, missile or lightning-breathing Tesla coils sizzle the advancing hordes, but are also expensive auxiliary towers to choose from, which slow down briefly for instance opponents.

The first linear levels are becoming increasingly complex, offer soon crossroads and alternative routes and culminate in open plains where you have the enemy streams the direct route to the computer obstruct the fact that they force you through rows of labyrinthine tower possible detours. With the complexity of difficulty increases, and after no more than half of the 20 missions Defense Grid is extremely tricky. Then barely passes a way around it several times re-address the inserts to vary the building tactics and refine.

This created Defense Grid is not only unnecessary, detailed environments, but shows off especially with a spectacle effect. Explosions, laser beams and flashes burn to advanced cards from such a rich color fireworks that impressive, the whole screen sparkles and glistens (which sometimes comes at the expense of the Overview). So laminated Defense Grid simultaneously that not much is going on in the sterile Maps otherwise, but that does not matter anyway; prevails on the chessboard is not much of life.

Who Plants vs. Zombies liked or generally looking for a challenge for the little gray cells, with Defense Grid gets a sophisticated professional version of the exciting tower defense game principle. Despite the crisp degree of difficulty Defense Grid is highly motivating because it stimulates to try out, because it is always possible and because it introduces new gameplay elements resistant.

Defense Grid takes the tower defense genre to the next level. I liked every aspect of the game. Level design, tower design, tower diversity, enemy types, economic system, soundtrack, effects, difficulty level, extra playable modes, the fact that tower placement shapes the aliens path. Everything is designed very carefully and delivers a perfect playing experience.
I got all achievements and I'm still playing to earn the gold metal on every single mode of every level.

I admit that the first time I played DG I looked down on it because it looked like a "small" game. That was on a friends computer before I finished the main campaign. Then I played it again a year later on my brothers computer and finished the main campaign again! Finally, this summer, I got it for myself and finished it again, plus every expansion that was available.

I'd like also to note that the voice of Jim Ward, who voices the AI assisant, is a big plus for the game. It gives you the feeling you're together into the fight, with a person that shares his personal moments with you, even his craving for raspberries!!

The Containment, You monster, Resurgence and Borderlands expansions add greatly to the game, in playable levels but also in the story.

And above all else is the Strategy. You may beat easily a level the first time, but it's certain you will come up with a better plan the second time you play the same level. And different game modes (like "out of bullets" or "shredder") will force you to adopt a completely different approach to beat the level. And all of this is done by placing just 10 different types of towers on those tiles. The game depth is incredible.

I give this game a 100% with honors! An excellent idea, a perfect design into a superb game.

1. You can kill time and aliens at the same time.

Got this game as a Steam deal and I must say I was utterly impressed by it and I would definitely say it's worth the standard price. It's a truly big game, packed with everything one could ask for in this genre.

You love tower defense then this is a game that you should definitely try it.
It is all little basic as the upgrades.
But makes the game certainly no less.

Story line is funny and certainly entertaining.
There are many challenges to achieve.
And if you like you're not so bored of this genre.

Overall I think this is one of the better tower defense games

This is the Tower Defense that separates the men from the boys. It's challenging, deep and extremely rewarding. Defense Grid will put the genre's main skills to the test: path designing, upgrading eficiency, weapon choice and pacing. There's tons of content in the main game and DLC. I found the sound and character design to be a bit generic but it's overall a great game.

Intro:
Best self-run game I have ever played.

Overview: Tower Defense

The Good

+ The premise is a bit different than most tower defense games. Rather than the enemies reaching the end of the map, this game has the enemies collecting 'cores' from a specific point on the map and then moving towards the exit. Because of this , your strategy has to be a bit different when placing your towers. In addition the more resources you collect the more interest you earn, thus spending your resources to build/upgrade your towers may not always be the best strategy especially in the beginning of a level.

+20 Main missions and 28 DLC missions. Every map is completely different from the last, some maps have multiple entry and exit points, core locations, pathways. Every map almost feels like a new puzzle, trying to figure out how to make the optimal path to win.

+ The DLC missions are unique and fun. The best DLC levels is mixing the portal universe with this one. Each level is unique and provides an interesting twist to each level altering your strategy.

+ Every mission features a variety of different modes. The modes that cause you to rethink your strategy are probably the best ones. For example, one mode has the entry and exit points reversed, another you can only build level 1 towers, etc.

+ The game features a variety of different towers each one with a unique purpose. The type of tower and the placement plays a big role in the game.

+ Great graphics and effects for this type of game

+controller support

The Bad:

- Other than a variety of different modes per level, this game offers little new.

-Some modes can be very repetitive. Once you figure out what works in a level, you can play different modes with the exact same layout. However these modes are optional.

- The game feels like it was designed with the controller only in mind. Why can't I map every control function on the mouse?

I can't say I found this game terribly interesting. It'sa VERY basic TD. There's no persistent upgrades, no customization of your loadout, not much story (even for a TD), no optional goals (no rewards for speed, extra cash, perfect no loss, etc.. In many maps you don't even get to choose tower location, the game only gives you a handful of platforms to build on. I've played better TDs for free on my phone. MUCH better ones.

The upsides are good graphics, lots of maps (if you do like it, you won't run out), and the AI helper is entertaining. His backstory (what there is) is far more interesting than the story you're playing (kill invaders, the end).

I bought it for 2.50 on sale. For that price, sure, get it. Don't buy it at full price.

Defense Grid is tower defense done correctly. The premise is simple you have "power cores" to defend against waves of an alien horde. You place towers to usher them to their ultimate demise. You can also control the path they take to the cores via the tower placement.

The Good
- Levels are very replayable. I find it enjoyable trying out different strategies and trying to top my score.
- If you start to lose the battle on a map you can use backspace to go back to previous checkpoints and try something new on the fly.
- Graphics are simple enough to understand which tower is which at a glance, but compelling enough to be interesting.
- A variety of levels with slightly different rules keeps it interesting. (two groups of cores to defend, separate exits, etc)

The Bad
- The voice of the AI character can get annoying over time.

Bought this in the steam winter sale for small change. Heard good things about it so thought i would try it out. Forward 200+ hours, and yes the game is the best tower defence game i have played.
A lot of thought is needed and high scores mean building as latest as possible, which carries risk.

Im a casual gamer so to play with just a mouse is great while pressing F to fw time. great game. would reccommend highly if you want to lose 200 hours of your life. Might get DG2 now that i have 100%'d this...
