About This Game

Defense Grid: The Awakening is a unique spin on tower defense gameplay that will appeal to players of all skill levels. A horde of enemies is invading, and it's up to the player to stop them by strategically building fortification towers around their base. Beautiful environments, spectacular effects, and a dynamic, engaging soundtrack bring the world to life. The controls are intuitive and the gameplay is deep — the special attacks and properties of each tower work together to provide many ways to succeed.
  • High Replayability There are approximately 8 hours of gameplay in the main storyline, and many hours of play in challenge modes that give players unique starting conditions and objectives. Each game level is very replayable, and can be solved in many different ways, with increasing rewards for improved efficiency.
  • Wide Variety of Enemies Over the course of the game, players battle 15 different enemy types that become increasingly stronger, and employ a variety of strategies in an attempt to bypass the player's defenses. As the levels progress, the enemies become tougher and more difficult to defeat.
  • 20 Unique Levels Defense Grid: The Awakening has 20 unique environments, each with a different placement of roads, tower build locations, and open areas to plan a strategy around.
  • Numerous Tower Options and Upgrades There are 10 different tower types with 3 levels of capability each. Each tower has unique trade offs that affect ideal placement, such as line-of-sight attack or ballistic trajectory fire. Some towers improve other nearby towers, and some are ideal at specific locations, such as a rear guard tower that unleashes a devastating attack.
  • Steam Achievements Successfully completing each level provides a bronze achievement award. Additional goals provide silver and gold awards for a particular level. A novice player may be able to survive the onslaught, but only an experienced player will be able to get all of the gold achievements.

Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack

New Maps, New Strategies, New Experiences, and New Achievements From the Creators of Defense Grid
Defense Grid: Resurgence is the first premium expansion for Defense Grid: The Awakening and is made up of 8 new highly polished and balanced maps from the original creators. Each week in June over four consecutive weeks a new pair of maps will be released providing new environments and strategic experiences and requiring new ways of thinking to beat back the aliens and protect your cores. Each map pack contains 2 maps each with a campaign mode and 4 additional modes associated with the design of that level. New Steam achievements and high-score leaderboards are associated with each map pack.
Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 1
Service Interruption and Height of Confusion
  • Two new challenging Defense Grid environments are the first two released in the Resurgence DLC. An obstructed road to the core housing gives the aliens a significant advantage in Service Interruption. Choose your towers wisely! Height of Confusion has a wide open surface, making for endless possibilities! Build anywhere you want in your defense of the power cores!
Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 2
Risk Exposure and Roundabout
  • Don’t miss out on the next two maps in the Resurgence series. Risk Exposure will allow you to discover your ability to defend two independent power core housings! Limited build spaces will test your skills as you divide your resources to discover optimal tower placement. On Roundabout, you will be faced with numerous possibilities for pathing and a variety of elevation changes. This one will have you going in circles to contain the alien menace!
Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 3
Urban Planning and Tactical Diversion
  • It’s the third of four great map packs in the Resurgence series. Urban Planning is a dense environment with restrictive build spaces, forcing difficult decisions against continuously attacking hordes. In Tactical Diversion, survey the small, snow covered platform and consider numerous possibilities. But be prepared for the aerial assault!
Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 4
Kill Zone and Overflow
  • The final installment of the Resurgence series includes two more environments sure to challenge your tactical planning. In Kill Zone, will you construct your defenses near the spiral road in, the spiral road out, or the open platform in the middle? Perhaps all three! But you’ll need to be on your toes to deter the invaders. Overflow has numerous connected platforms that will provide countless options to turn back the enemies. Will you be able to keep the cores safe?

1. You can kill time and aliens at the same time.
2. Single player - cause others people are scary.
3. A button for speeding things up... something the DMV needs desperately.

Recieved this as part of the Potato Pack.

Easily tied for my favorite game out of that pack with Killing Floor.

Incredibly well done Tower Defense. Looks good, plays even better.

Can't wait to dig into number 2.

You think you got the skills to save earth from the aliens. This game takes pure strategy to beat. Put your building skills to the test. Defend earth from being taken over. And I haven't been able to beat all missions so have fun.

Not that it's a bad game, just not for me. Can play tower defense games in a web browser that are just as fun and free.

Tactical Gameplay: 10/10
Narration: 10/10
Story: 8/10

Total: 9.3/10

Defense Grid is an amazing game that everyone should own. The story could use a little bit of work (hopefully improved in DG2), but everything else is perfect.

Get the DLC! It's great!

Awesome game with hours upon hours of tower defense gameplay. I believe it is probably THE standard by which all future tower defense games will be judged. Other than the gameplay itself I really enjoyed the storyline that went along with it. The voice acting was outstanding and really rounded out the game experience.

Tower defense at its best. Being able to place your towers in such a way that it forces the baddies to take longer paths is extremely enjoyable and challenging.

Key features:

- Block baddies just as they're getting near your cores, forcing them to re-route.
- Bounce a train of baddies back and forth between two paths by repeatedly opening one and blocking the other.
- Unspent money earns interest so if you build just the towers you need, you'll have even more money later on.
- Create "kill zones" with your most powerful towers + slowing towers + bonus money towers to maximize efficiency.
- Cool story with some great DLC (The Portal cross-over DLC is top notch)
- Alternate modes/achievements will keep you playing for a long time

This game is one of the greatest Tower Defense games on the market right now, with great visuals, solid gameplay and humour that will give you a good chuckle every once in awhile. The soundtrack, while nothing you'd listen to outside the game, makes the encounters feel very cinematic and movie like, which just adds to the appeal. With a huge, huge amount of content, especially with the other DLC's, you'll have a blast playing Defense Grid.

This is the best defense game I have played. The game mechanics and balance are amazing when compared against other offerings in the genre. Even after a few years, the graphics still hold up, the story is still fresh and matches the sci-fi world it was created for, and the voice acting is top quality. There is a fair amount of DLC available, but even without it the levels still hold a great deal of re-playability. Also, if you are into achievements, this game has you covered. You can even compare run scores versus your friends.

Got this game as a Steam deal and I must say I was utterly impressed by it and I would definitely say it's worth the standard price. It's a truly big game, packed with everything one could ask for in this genre.

Defense Grid takes the tower defense genre to the next level. I liked every aspect of the game. Level design, tower design, tower diversity, enemy types, economic system, soundtrack, effects, difficulty level, extra playable modes, the fact that tower placement shapes the aliens path. Everything is designed very carefully and delivers a perfect playing experience.
I got all achievements and I'm still playing to earn the gold metal on every single mode of every level.

I admit that the first time I played DG I looked down on it because it looked like a "small" game. That was on a friends computer before I finished the main campaign. Then I played it again a year later on my brothers computer and finished the main campaign again! Finally, this summer, I got it for myself and finished it again, plus every expansion that was available.

I'd like also to note that the voice of Jim Ward, who voices the AI assisant, is a big plus for the game. It gives you the feeling you're together into the fight, with a person that shares his personal moments with you, even his craving for raspberries!!

The Containment, You monster, Resurgence and Borderlands expansions add greatly to the game, in playable levels but also in the story.

And above all else is the Strategy. You may beat easily a level the first time, but it's certain you will come up with a better plan the second time you play the same level. And different game modes (like "out of bullets" or "shredder") will force you to adopt a completely different approach to beat the level. And all of this is done by placing just 10 different types of towers on those tiles. The game depth is incredible.

I give this game a 100% with honors! An excellent idea, a perfect design into a superb game.

I remember playing this years ago on Wild Tangent, long before I switched to Steam, and it's still just as fun as it was then, maybe even more now that I know what to expect.

Defense Grid is among the best you'll find in the Tower Defense genre, and rightfully so. This game has a tantalizing blend of simplicity, planning, general enjoyment and even graphics. One of the largest pluses to Defense Grid is that it allows you to progressively shape the path your alien foe take. You can also set up "kill zones," places where you concentrate your best towers and where most of the killing happens, hence the name.

Another huge twist in Defense Grid is that your enemies have to go to a central hub to take a power core, essentially hitpoints. If you kill an alien who is holding a core, the core will progressively float back to the hub unless another alien grabs it. This makes strategy much deeper than "don't let them get to the end."

Your AI friend who is booted up in the prologue is your constant companion, giving you tips and commenting on how you're doing or what's going on (this has saved my ♥♥♥ many times when I was focused on improving outer towers and he told me that aliens had their grabby little hands on a core, and they wouldn't left the map with it if my AI friend hadn't told me in time).

Another great, possibly unintentional twist is that your AI friend has a British accent. This somehow makes his warnings more spoken and his cheers more cheerful, plus it sounds so classy when he says "bloody hell."

Some maps also have multiple levels to them, where aliens have to go up in a spiral to get to your cores. This opens up a huge amount of possibilities for towers that help cover multiple levels.

Overall, I'd have to say Defense Grid is one of the best if not the best game you'll find in the Tower Defense genre. Your Tower Defense collection can't be complete without this game. Definately get this if you're into Tower Defense.

For those who like the classic towerdefense game, that you used to play on sites and whatnot, this is it (but improved lol).

This game, gets the classic classic towerdefense, top view towerbuilding style and pump it up, with more intensity and strat.
It will offer various modes but all still within the boundaries.
No surprises here. You want towerdefense classic? you get it..

But just like those original TD games, this 1 cant be played for hours straight... infact, the intensity added will only make you play less. 1-2 games and done... and since its fast paced, you wont play for more than a couple of minutes.
