About This Software

The Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the movie-making tool built and used by us here at Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.

To get started, just click the button above to install. The SFM includes all the base game assets from Team Fortress 2 along with assets from some of the first “Meet the Team” short films.

Takes some time to learn this software but is very fun and unique , i give VALVE props on this ,Since this is free the question is really is this worth the time ?

As i ask you this keep this factored in your nogin. Do you like to make videos? Are you interested in scene development, char development , animation-without bone rigging, creating a story or parody?

If you said yes to any of those then this is for you , if not dont waste the time it will take to learn this unique software.

I'll admit, the amount of time it takes to learn this is hard. Very hard. Maybe it's even a turn off for some of you. But I promise, once you get used to it, you can make true art in the form of Valve games. Wether it's posters, or animations. It's something to give a try. It is free after all.
