Being a fan of the first two deathspank games, I've always had an urge to purchase The Baconing when it came out on the xbox 360. After seeing many negative reviews on the game, i decided to hold off. Playing the game now on pc, i don't see what the whole fuss was about. This is the same tried and true deathspank formula packaged in a new adventure. The only concern was the difficulty of the game. I died many MANY more times in this game then i did in the first two combined. This game is a little bit more linear when it comes to paths to take, but this may be a positive or a negative to some. Game length was fair, seeing how this was a 15 dollar arcade game. I believe i beat the game in about 8 or 9 hours, and this is attempting every quest and collecting everything possible. If your a deathspank fan i would recommend this game to you in a heartbeat. Do not let the negative reviews sway you.

I can hardly explain how much i enjoyd this game!

It's silly, sometimes "stupid", and it has it's dreary walk from this (god damn amazing) npc to the next (god damn amazing) npc.

Hothead Games has a gem here (i have not played the earlier Deathspank games, but i'm probably going to *adding to wishlist*) the writing is amazing, somewhat nice, but amazing!

Btw, if you did not notice, i'm quite pumped up about the game, and the reason is that i just finished it after 10,5 hours spread over two days.

Okey, serious time... The writing is fantastic, the voiceacting is fantastic, this game is fantastic!

Excellent dialog, story, and charming graphics make up for what can only be described as mediocre mechanics, it's a hack and slash that will frustrate the hell out of you with collection quests and side missions that add little to the overall game and serve only as a comedy tool. The co-op feature is not much to write home about, with a number of sidekicks available with a sort of reduced functionality, no gearing for sidekicks limits this a bit and minimizes loot fights. The game itself is rescued by its pacing and story and on the whole I would recommend it at a lower than usual price. not worth the £10 tag it puts forward.

Bought on one of the Humble Bundle for 2$. This is my first game in DeathSpank series and its simply awesome! Playing this game is a pure fun! Worth more than 2$ actually. Funny dialogues, MANY easter eggs, many pop culture references (game industry too). Light gameplay, simple HUD and interaface, but the battles are very hard. First time in few years i have been forced to lower difficulty from medium/hard to easy.

I enjoyed this game. The voice acting was superb and funny. Gameplay is your typical hack and slash with some rpg like elements. Highly entertaining. About 8-10 hours long.

Pro:
Voice Acting
Gameplay is decent enough. Will die a lot, but still enjoyable
Graphics a re unique and very interesting stylewise

Con:
Die a lot...if you suck...which i did :D
Could've used more variety with the music

Personally, I loved this game. I got it through the humble bundle, so It only cost me about 25 cents. I spent about 10 hours playing it, and absolutley adored every second of it. It's a fun hack-and-slash style game with a lot of silly humor in it.

In case you didn't know, this is actually the third game in the series. The other two are titled "Deathspank" and "Deathspank: The Thongs of Virture." I played it without having played these other two first. While I felt left out on some jokes that featured returning characters, I still felt like I understood what was going on.

Even at full price, I would recommend this game. I would probably suggest playing the other two games first, but it isn't totally necesarry.

Overall I give this game a 8.5/10

Really liked the original Deathspank. The second one was not as good, but still okay. The Baconing I just do not like. The first two games are basically casual with their playing style. Something you can just pick up and play as a good time killer. Unfortunately this time out they have introduced grinding for some reason. Monsters go from being a good fight to killing you repeatedly until you can get decent equipment to face them with. Another problem is the fact that other monsters will be "shooting" you from offscreen, causing massive damage plus slowing you, PLUS causing damage over time with poison. It just completely wrecks any enjoyment that you could have playing. A disappointment all the way around. Unless they can bring back the entertainment value of the first game, I hope to never see Deathspank again.

Deathspank, the hero. You start at level 1, and you are looking for "The Thongs Of Virtue" :P, that's all the story in the game. You meet a lot of NPCs, some decent, some interesting and some... just NPCs. No spells, just some basic weapons. No skills either, just some cards that give you bonuses, some potions and food also but all is basic. As simple as possible :P

Adapting to the playing style of this game is quite very easy, since the game is not that really demanding, except running from time to time and eating so you can recover your health. Lots of quests, but going from A to B, after some time, it gets very very booring. The max level is level 20, easy to reach in like 5-7 hours depending of your playing style and pacience.

Attacking mobs with 2 levels above yours is never a smart move and most... means a death. The map is confusing, seems simpler in design but not that efficient in showing what the player needs. All the achievements can be finished during the campaign (story, whatever :P), quite hard to miss any of them :P

After playing DeathSpank, The Baconing, was... like playing the same game all over again. So I never bothered to play it since it doesn't come with anything interesting or new, it's like playing a DLC for the original DeathSpank. Sadly I got bored after the 2nd hour and I never bothered to finish it.

If you liked the previous two DeathSpank games, see if you like this one also, but for me... it became boring to play the same game over and over again where there's soo many games that I can try in the mean time :P

Ahhh, DeathSpank! The final game in the trilogy. Like some action RPG's? Like Diablo games? This game is for you. Absolutely fantastic dialog. Funny stuff. I've completed all 3 games and still wanting more. Very fast paced and can be unforgiving at times with it's long range enemy projectiles, but damn worth it. Come.. stay awhile.. and enjoy THE BACONING!

Funny, and stupid at the same time. I did laugh a couple of times. Combat is a little off, and i found myself resorting to hit and run tactics a little too often. Still installed in my system thou, after having it for a long time, and still occasionally go back to try to finish it, so that says something about this game. 7/10

The Baconing is a sequel to DeathSpank. It's a cartoony, colorful action adventure game with gruesome humor. Fart jokes agogo as Deathspank fights an army of undead cyborgs to destroy some sacred thongs.

It's absurd, it's ridiculous. It's also colorful and fun and reminds me of some fo the more twisted cartoons of my youth like Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

The Baconing is a pretty simple game at its core, but has more complex equipment and item systems than what I was expecting. On the one hand it's kind of a button masher, but some fo the mechanics are overly complex for such a game.

It might be your thing if you like hack and slash adventures with sophmoric toilet humor, but it just didn't do it for me.

This game attempts to follow up the prequels of Deathspank and Thongs of Virtue in the same spirit. The gameplay lacks here, since enemies often use ranged attacks out of frame to kill you. Where two two earlier games allowed the story-telling to be in focus and the dialogue options felt more interesting than just progressing The Baconing fails. However, it is still good for a few chuckles and while I loathe when achievements are tacked on for playing games on the hardest difficulty I can still say it's worth a playthrough. Fans of the earlier games may be somewhat disappointed, though.

This game is extremely hard. You will die. Over and over and over and over, more than likely. Thank goodness they made it so you start over fairly near where you died though.
Still, too annoying to be any fun (in my opinion). If you like VERY HARD games, this is for you.
The dialogue was somewhat funny, but didn't get to see enough of it in between all of the getting killed.

This game could have been so much more than it ended up being. The gameplay is really mediocre, the stat system and the way you get good gear is kinda dumb, and the difficulty curve between regular enemies and bosses is WAY too high.

The writing is pretty phenomenal, though.
