The game is great so far, now I'm kind of a veteran of true survival Horror games. What I mean is like Old games like the original RE games/Silent Hill games. Those games actually scared me to death lol but sadly it was hard to find a good Horror game that gave me the same juimp feeling. I find some good ones from time to time and this game is defintely one of them.
If you love horror games and never played this game then I suggest you get it since it's worth it :)

If you want to play this game, play it on a console.

PC version is extremely buggy and crashes frequently. The game was not made to be played with a mouse. Menus are only navigable with arrow keys, mouse sensitivity is ♥♥♥♥ed up, cannot turn off mouse acceleration. Zero-G jumps onto uneven surface or at too shallow an angle consistently causes freezing and death. "Continue" instead of "Load Game" will sometimes change your game difficulty, with no way to change it back.

Half way through a run on Hard, I got bugged down to Medium and the game became trivial. There was almost no increase in difficulty for the second half of the game. I spent the entire game drowning in ammo and money. You start with the best weapon in the game; the rest are irrelevant. Very few of my deaths were attributable to enemies. Most of them were environmental deaths, and about half of those were the previously mentioned Zero-G bug. Final boss was underwhelming.

Those things aside, the game was okay. Story was decent I guess. Gameplay was fine when not bugging. I had enough fun to finish it, but I'm probably never coming back to it.

The gameplay is good and the story is pretty shocking and disturbing at the end. The atmosphere and monsters make this game awesome to play at night but wear brown pants.

Great game that has aged well, atmospheric and tense at the right moments. Only play on the hardest difficulty though.

worst port i've ever played
-when standing still, the camera moves at uncontrollable speed, when you are moving, the camera moves an intangible amount.
-when aiming, there's a deadzone. to be honest, i didn't know it was possible to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enough to have a dead zone in a game that involves aiming. i have to set my mouse's dpi to 1800 to even move the camera while aiming.
-controller button prompts when i never plugged a controller in, have to press every key on my keyboard to figure out what the tutorials are telling me
-absurdly high mouse acceleration you can only turn off via a .ini
-when you close the game, the process stays running in the background taking up a gig of ram

Terrifying. I have no idea if I will ever be able to beat the game. The atmosphere and music go so well together that you just can't help but be pulled in, creeped out, and then absolutely horrified as you panic trying to shoot things.

This is a game I really WANT to beat, the story is interesting, and the weapons are cool.

The ultimate Sci-Fi survival horror game. Great story and atmosphere. It's like "Event Horizon" meets "Alien I".

Dead Space can be considered a modern classic for survival horror genre or just a bland sci-fi shooter with horror elements. What ever you might think, you can admit that this game does have a decent gameplay and good atmosphere at some points. Weapons and armor look cool and are indeed memorable. Killing necromorphs is fun and sci-fi weapons make it even more fun.

The game still does have a fair share of issues. PC version has poor performance for relatively old game and is buggy, but the amount bugs in play sessions changes. I had a invisible wall when I opened the door (at the first chapter in fact) and I couldn't get through, so I had to change some settings (I can't remember what I did, but you can find out yourself) to fix it. Another bug was in zero-gravity outside the ship where there was asteroids hitting the ship and you had to avoid those by getting into cover. You also had to jump to the walls because of cover and oxygen canisters, but my character somehow didn't land on it and stopped and died for no reason. I had to land much more carefully to avoid it. When I was a bit younger I stopped playing it because of this issue. I didn't understand, what I was suppose to do at the time.

WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!
This game does have a story which has a lot of clichees. Characters aren't that good and it doesn't help that your main character, Isaac Clarke, is mute. They added voice later on with the sequels gladly, but his personality wasn't that interesting, but still OK. I should still say that the foundation of Dead Space is great. Humanity is lacking resources and for that reason, they built planetcrackers that can go into lightspeed and then grab a huge part of the planet/moon/asteroid to mine it and gather all the resources. There's also a cult with large amounts of members who have their own devious plans. Good setup, but the story of characters is lacking and could've been better.

If you're new to horror genre, this game might be scary to you. Though it's possible that if you're an active gamer, you'll notice the patterns in Dead Space.

This review might sound too cynical to have a recommended status, but I should say that this game is good overall and you should try it if you're into shooters or horror.

I wrote this review because I didn't have anything else to do, so it might be a bit messy. I do hope that my review was readable and easy to understand.
(As always, I might do mistakes when writing text in english, so apologies for any mistakes I made)

After beating this game, I can honestly say, I have no clean underwear.

There are a few annoyances though with this game on PC.
-You need to cap your FPS at about 120 otherwise you will run into various issues
-using the ingame vsync options creates a HUGE amout of input lag
-the y-axis on your mouse moves slower than your x-axis

Other than the game being just old with issues listed above, the game is amazing. Definitly with going through the fixes to play it.

This is hands down one of my all time favorite games. I played all of these games in a mixed order, so this one, the first one, is the last one that I beat. The story was incredibly captivating and kept me on edge. The game play is based on focus and using everything you can to your advantage. Jump scares and intense alien combat are great. Highly reccomended. Personally, my favorite of the series.

I bought the game as a bundle with the second one. I was hoping to play through them both but unfortunately for me and apparently for many others the controls on the PC port are completely broken, there is extreme input lag unless you turn v-sync off, the mouse sensitivity is excruciating low and has negative acceleration, meaning I literally couldnt turn a corner unless i picked up my mouse and moved it across the pad several times.

Even with the fixes on the forums that require you alter the files for the game, I experienced freezes in the mouse controls, and glitches with the movement. Finally I hit an invisible wall in the only path forward, meaning I had to quit the game before even the first save point. I didn't bother to try to sit through the unskippable opening cutscene again.

Luckily when i went ahead to the second game I found that none of these problems persisted and I was pleasantly surprised with extremely fluid controls and movement animations. I would only buy this game if you are looking to play through the whole series, because it is likely your game will be broken and you will have to jump through hoops to actually play it. If you are just looking for a bit of the dead space experience skip this one and go for number 2.
