About This Game

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.

Mirror's Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith's world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.

Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run. From the makers of the groundbreaking Battlefield franchise, Mirror's Edge is an action-adventure experience unlike any other.

Features

  • Move yourself: String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.
  • Immerse yourself: In first person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.
  • Challenge yourself: Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.
  • Free yourself: Runner vision allows you to see the city as they do. See the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, opportunities and escape routes. The flow is what keeps you running — what keeps you alive.

Really nice game. The combat is kinda bad, but you are not supposed to fight too often. Sadly the main story is really short.

Despite not reaching mega sales numbers, this did OK when it came out. It has a big cult following and the demand for a sequel is so great that EA ordered for the sequel to be made. If you can catch this on sale, go for it. Or hell, just pony up the $20 for some good fun. It is a cool first-person platform jumper that really gives you a sense of being high up and doing dangerous things, like banging Josh Holmes mother without a rubber, the most dangerous job of them all. It is well produced and good in every aspect. This game is very fun and one of my all-time favorite games. Probably my favorite parkour game of all-time as well. This is definitely worth anyone's time and the sequel coming out soon should be badass also.

I love this game - but I also hate it's guts.
The game is so freakin' beautiful - but it's sorta a giant pile of bullsh!t.
Great idea - kinda horrible execution.
You're not really meant to use weapons - enemies have shotguns and are sorta, kinda really great at using them.
so on and so forth...

Regardless of my steam time played (1.3hrs as of writing this), I beat this game on PC before, and I played it more than half way through again on a friend's 360 a few years ago, so I think I can write a decent short review for it right now.

So the pictures and videos don't lie, the graphics look insane for a 2009 game even 7 years later, if they were to replace the character models, and get rid of the ugly comic book/anime cutscenes, or at least animate them a whole lot better, they can easily call it a remaster/remake/redux/re...whatever, and sell it at full price (Origin, though! >_<).

The gameplay is pretty decent and freerunning can be really fun when you get into the zone... til you get to a level where the world wants you to die, that is, and every citizen of, whatever this made up city is called, is blasting at you with a shotgun while you're struggling to find that piece of fence that doesn't have barbed wire on top. I mean, in those situations "rabbit hunting simulator" would be a better fitting title for the game, with the player being the scared wabbit.

Story is there, it's alright I guess, voice acting and music are good, it's all AAA quality I'd say, no need to go into details, you're here to run, dammit!

Ending song made a lot of nerdy boys and grils cry, I didn't like it very much, but maybe check out the Benassi remix, I don't know...

Anywho, it's a game that can make you hate yourself, and the world, but it's worth a playthrough. I mean you own it already, and if you don't, wtf dude-bro?! it was like $2.5 on sales and in a $1 bundle, I mean c'mon... with the sequel coming out, now is the time to play this fantastic abomination.

Final score 7.5/10

In a word: Janky.

Mirror's Edge is a game around parkour and flow.
It however doesn't flow; not easily.

In story mode, there is very little flow.
The levels are often broken up between puzzle-like climbing sections, where the aim is to get from A to B using the available structures, to arcadish shooter segments, running from A to B whilst being fired upon.
In both you are often funneled down a predetermined path. You must jump from here to here to progress. You must pass these dudes to progress. And very little of this lends itself to speed or flow.
To solve the puzzle you must stop and examine the environment, and to pass the shooters you must either stop and dispatch them with your own gun, or try to run straight at or through them as they fire at you (which doesn't work most of the time).

The best bits of the game are between these two segments, where you have space to move. Or when you are simply chased.
But these are fleeting, and often the physics of the game conspire to ruin these too.

For instance, run at a wall straight ahead and you will attempt to climb it. Run at it at an angle and you will wall run across it.
You can jump onto an object, or automatically vault it plummeting to your doom.
Leap at a guys head and knock him to the ground, or stand on them instead.
Or the most frustrating grab a ledge, or simply not and fall.
Some of these dichomotomies rarely trouble you, aside in small spaces where the difference between the two actions becomes hard to maintain.
But some are confused so often that it just leads to repeated attempts and failures.
Of course maybe I'm simply bad at the game.

There's a narrative too, such as it is.
It is very much a narrative of convenience. Things happen because they need to involve the main character, rather than occuring out of any sort of narrative cause.
Take the premise. You are a runner in a city because the guvment is cracking down on crime. And so the crime lords need stuff transported outside of the city's transport system I think.
These packages you're meant to be delivering? You never deliver any throughout the game. You never work. You are the worst courier the city has seen. But the crime lords are never seen either so I guess they can't be too mad.
Similarly the police have not cracked down on you because of fear of reprisal. Until they do, in the first chapter.

There is race mode, which involves chasing down your own time and that of your friend's ghosts.
You could probably try to beat the leader's too, if they weren't cheats with single second runs.
Still, this feels like a missed opportunity, as a true race mode, competing head to head parkouring around the city, sounds like great fun (and I think is the premise for Speed Runner, which I'm yet to play).

All in all, this game has a good premise with poor, even sloppy, execution.
Which is a huge shame.
A sequel is coming out soon though, so perhaps this will improve in the areas above.
In any case, either wait for the sequel to come out, or buy this in a sale if you're curious.

Wouldn't recommend.
Maybe play like Sonic Adventure 2, or Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 or 3.
It's not parkour, but the freedom of movement and the straight ignoring of physics to allow the flow to continue are there.
And the flow is all that matters.

Mirror's Edge is a game built solely on free running/parkour and fleeing from a new government's regime.
This includes reaching your destinations in unusual ways through roofs, obstacles and other wide or narrow spaces. All of this often leads to an encounter with armed forces which sometimes can be avoided or challenged through a combat.

Movement has a good flow until you reach combat. However, it can be sloppy from time to time and because of that your character might miss objects that you're supposed to hang onto like poles.

Combat is probably one of the worst aspects of this game. The melee part is kinda fine until you take possession of a gun. Its mechanics are literally crap. It would've been better if there were less combat because you can't avoid everything and you'll be forced to engage in it at some point anyways.

★ As for the story, it didn't seem to be interesting for me at all. I was really trying to get into it and make it grow on me but I still found it dull (many will disagree).

Music and graphics had a huge impact for this game's success. Soundtracks are relaxing and fits the theme. Moreover, colorful and minimalist graphic design added so much to this game visually that it distracted me from the gameplay just to enjoy the view.

Therefore, this game stands on the verge between + and - but I'll still recommend it since I enjoyed it to some extent.

Hate the combat, running gets dull after a short while and the story is not very interesting...
Doing parcour combo's does make me feel like a badass, I admit, but most of the time faith just keeps missing
things I want her to grab and that really ruins the flow for me..
Not a long game, but still not short enough, since I got sick of it before completing
So I personally don't like it, but that's an opinion

I forgot to breath so many times on this game ... 10/10 would forget again.
This game gives you all the things that a parkour individual does, throw you in a very amazing, colorful, alive city, put some folks to start shooting at you, play an amazing soundtrack in the background and you run, and try to find your way as fast as you can. I am not used to run away so it really gives that thrill of fast thinking and trying not to get hit.
New experience, great game.

Short but sweet game. A one of a kind really. Best part is...NO ORIGIN!!!! :D

The games controls feel a little on the clunky side. But, its not enough for me to not recommend it.

Also, $20 is steep. I'd wait for a dank sale as I originally did.

Played this in 2016, it does look good! Count around 6 hours of playing if you're like me and don't care about all hidden secrets but prefer running & playing the story. 6 hours isn't much, but eh, I got the game for free, and I enjoyed those 6 hours, so :)

The gameplay is very interesting, I played the entire thing with a xbox controller, and it's pleasant. The gunfights didn't exacly felt right (maybe it's the controller, go figure), but I still enjoyed to "shotgun those ninja's faces" (play it to understand!). I got about 3 or 4 good adrenaline rushes, but also felt like the game felt me 3 or 4 times (like: I swear I pushed the right button and I fell - and died - anyway. not kewl!). It's technical, but in general it goes quite smoothly, and the overall feeling is really good : run, run, (jump), run.

The story itself isn't really interesting, the plot has some severe holes in it... but it does make sense to run like a crazy-person and jump from roof to roof if you can look past these inconsistencies, and I believe that's the main point of this game. I could somewhat compare it to Dying Light freerun on top of which you'd add new moves.

Anyway, despite it being an "old" game in 2016, despite the story that could have been better and the lifespan double, I still recommend it to about anyone.

This is one of the few games that I have played that can get away with having a pretty poopy story because its other aspects are so strong. For one, these graphics are incredibel for the time especially, the game itself is so fun it is stupid, and the mechanics are flawless. Honestly, this is so, so worth your time, despite what negatives you have heard here. If you like parkour or shooters, this is your game, for sure.

Having owned this game on PS3 I think this game really comes into it's own on PC. It is infinitely smoother and it feels like it was made for M/KB.
Had to change the controls to make jump and crouch LMB and RMB, would recommend people struggling with the controls do the same.

Can't wait for catalyst to come out.

Let me tell you something about Celeste Wilson. We were close friends in Mercurys lair. I know, right? It's so embarrassing. I don't even... Whatever. So then a month later, I started going out with my first city officer Miller who was totally gorgeous but then he moved to New Eden, and Celeste was like, weirdly jealous of him.

Like, if I would blow her off to meet with Miller, she'd be like, "Why didn't you invite me with?" And I'd be like, "Why are you so obsessed with me?" So then, for my birthday party, which was an all-girls runner party, I was like, "Celeste, I can't invite you, because I think you're lesbian." I mean I couldn't have a lesbian at my party. There were gonna be girls there in their *Spandex*. I mean, right? She was a LESBIAN. So Celeste called Mercury and started yelling at him, it was so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And then she dropped out of Mercurys group because no one would talk to her, and she came back in the fall after Kate was arrested, She was wearing some tight bodysuit and mask and she was totally weird, and now I guess she's on working with Project Icarus..
