About This Game

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.

Mirror's Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith's world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.

Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run. From the makers of the groundbreaking Battlefield franchise, Mirror's Edge is an action-adventure experience unlike any other.

Features

  • Move yourself: String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.
  • Immerse yourself: In first person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.
  • Challenge yourself: Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.
  • Free yourself: Runner vision allows you to see the city as they do. See the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, opportunities and escape routes. The flow is what keeps you running — what keeps you alive.

The story is nothing, but the gameplay and atmosphere are mint. Perfect amount of water.

One of the only games in the genre, this first-person parkour game does something almost unique. The graphics are bright and blooming with futuristic white buildings which have aged well on the older game. The parkour can at times feel a bit clunky, but once you get the hang of it you'll be racing across rooftops easily, which is where the bulk of this game's fun is. This game is also a must-play for speedrunners, as I can easily imagine all kinds of little tricks you can do to shave off more and more time in-game.

Pros
- Interesting genre: parcours with FPS. A lot of variety.
- You 'should' not get lost as both visual and audio clues help you to find your way to your goal.
- Some parts of the games are without any clues. This allows you to be a bit creative and succeeding feels more rewarding. This is what games such as 'Remember Me' are lacking.
- The controls are generally rather smooth...
- ... and the FPS elements let you blow off some steam when the controls just fail. Because you die - a lot.
- The respawn system works well. Really.
- Stunning graphics and environments
- Very fitting music
- A great amount of detail in terms of random banter.

Cons
- The story. Only the surface of so many things has been scratched. No depth and the ending feels abrupt.
- Basically no character development and everyone feels like a filler. You do not get attached to your heroine.
- Controls are sometimes horrible for no reason whatsoever. Very, very annoying.
- The odd balance between "a lot of help" and "no help whatsoever" in the parcours makes the game rather frustrating.
- The combat system is difficult to master. Even slowing down time (your ability) makes it difficult to disarm ennemies.
- Avoiding combat feels much better than actually fighting.
- No replayability. No time trials.
- Collectables are pointless as they do not unlock anything nor give achievements.
- Audio quality sometimes sucks as most of the conversations happen through radio waves. While you are being shot at by machine guns.
- FPS Issues despite owning a Nvidia card. Disabling PhysX is mandatory.
- Alt+Tab is a deathwish.

I honestly did not enjoy this game. You might.

Fun game, albeit very short.

My thoughts (played on PC):
Decent story (predictable but fun anyway)
Parkour!! (takes some getting used to, documentation/turorial doesn't teach you much, suggest reading online about combos)
Graphics although outdated in 2016 are very visually striking due to the use of exreme contrast, which I really enjoyed.
AI is cheesy but luckily don't have to fight but a handful of times.
Again, parkour! if you like it, and like testing your skills the time trials mode is much fun and let's you race and play around outside of the main campaign.

Mirror's Edge. You climb walls and shizzle

Pros
- -: Parkour is nice, despite that sometimes Faith never grabs the ♥♥♥♥ing ledge I want her to, it's fluid and smooth.
- -: The soundtrack is one of my favourite parts about it, Solar Fields did an Excellent job on it. Props to him.
- -: Visuals looks pretty damn good for a 2008 game.
- -: Quite atmospheric and Immersive
- -: Cartoon animations for some cutscenes. Despite the animation being a bit shoddy at times, it's a nice feat.

Doesn'tbotherme's
- -: The story honestly tries, but fails. I kind of liked the characters, I kind of didnt.
- -: Combat is a cool addition, specially the disarming feature, but it's a bit tricky to master, and easily avoidable
- -: There are some glitches, but not too many.

Cons
- -: A.I is garbage, the only way they'll truly kill you is when they get bigger guns later on in the game
- -: Why do my enemies go completely stiff/ gmod like when I kill them? I dont understand why DICE couldn't just put animations for when enemies get shot at. Sure, you dont have to use guns, but some people like to.
- -: When the soundtrack just stops playing.

9/10 - Don't play the sequel, it unfortunately doesn't have much charm as this one.

Very Underrated
Im going to keep this brief as I could talk forever about this game.
The game was amzing when it came out serveral years ago and imo still holds up today better than Catalyst ;). The story isnt the best but the gameplay is really good especially when you get into speed running etc, Im not good at speedrunnign yet still love the game, as it gives great sense of accomplishement getting a PB due to the skill ceiling, yet good overall a cult masterpiece.

Ah..Parkour, my favorite way of getting around town. Mirror's Edge put this into a game and damn...for me it took about 20 hours to learn how to side-step boost, kick glitch and coil boost. After that you play the story again and again to get the perfect times. After that the time trials will grab you. Currently holder of 4 world records.
