Spore is an amazing game about creating your own species and changing it though time. This game is all about customization and creativity. Spore has a great character editor that allows you to make so many different species. Not only do you get to make your own animals, you also get to create your own cities and vehicles, once you get to the civilization stage. In Spore you progress your species through multiple stages: Cell Stage, Creature Stage, Tribal Stage, Civilization Stage, and Space stage. Your decisions you make in these stages determine how your species will be defined in the future. Here is a brief review of each one. *Potential Spoilers
Cell Stage: In this stage your species is just a small microorganism whose only job is to eat and grow. You control one animal of your species where you have to eat-to-grow. This stage is all about eating and keeping up with other species as they get more and more dangerous and sophisticated. Determining factors of this stage are whether your species is carnivorous, omnivorous, or herbivorous. This stage is more of a tutorial and only lasts for about 20-30 mins average.
Creature Stage: Finally your animal has grown a simple brain as well as legs and is ready to live on land. You will control one animal of your species and your goal is to either become friends with other species or attempt to turn other species extinct as well as obtaining food for yourself. As you continue to change your species and befriend or kill off other species, your brain starts to grow bigger and more complex, giving you the ability to get better nests and get pack members. The determining factors of this stage are whether your species is predator, adaptable, or social. This stage is of medium length: 1-2 hrs average.
Tribal Stage: Your brain is fully grown, fire is at your fingertips and hand tools are being discovered, this is the start of sentience. Unfortunately, you lose the ability to control your own animal, but you can control multiple animals at once through a system of clicks to move and do actions. Your goal in this stage is to ally other tribes or destroy them before they grow too large. You have to supervise hunting and fishing groups to make sure you keep your food stock full. You also have to send warriors to fight, or musicians to entertain allies. As you progress through the tribal stage, your tribe gets larger and acquires more advanced technology. Determining factors of this stage are whether your species is aggressive, industrious, or peaceful. This stage is of medium length: 1-2 hrs average.
Civilization Stage: After a long evolutionary war, your species has won and is the dominant force on this planet. You discover modern technology and start to form cities. But others of your race rise against you... In this stage your species creates different countries that all wish to rule in a different way. You are the leader of one of these countries. Food is no longer a problem, instead spice is a valued commodity and must be harvested. You need to strengthen relations with others and either take over, persuade, or buy out other countries to gain control of the planet. Your actions in this stage will make your species as a whole either religious, economic, military. This stage is of medium length: 1-2 hrs average.
Space Stage: Your species has had many scientific discoveries including space faring. All of your choices from past stages add up and make your species' philosophy, or what they believe in. These are all of the possible philosophies: wanderer, shaman, trader, warrior, zealot, diplomat, scientist, ecologist, bard, and knight. This stage is all about expanding your empire by war or colonies, exploring the depths of space, or increasing relations with other species through trading or quest trading. You are a representative of your nation and you fly around in a spaceship that you get to design. In this stage you can upgrade your ship, and even terraform whole planets. The content in this stage is truly endless that is only determined when you get bored with it. This stage is VERY long: Infinity, but you probably will be spending 10-50 hrs with it.
Even though all the hours added up may seem like a short time, remember this is just ONE playthrough of the game. It is very fun to make new species that act completely different than your last one. Also you are given the creature/building/vehicle editor where you can make your own creations and save them to revisit later. And sometimes they will show up in later playthroughs.
-Graphics aren't the best
-there are some bugs
-most stages are short except for the space stage
+fast gameplay progression
+allows great creativity
+many hours of fun
+creatures that you make can show up in later games
+two dlcs that you buy to increase playtime even more
+Maxis has already made thousands of creations that you can use if your not feeling creative
+you can download other people's creations and upload your own
+you can fight other people in multiplay
+many other things, but this list is too long already
This game has so many hours of content and really allows you to express your creativity. I highly recommend this game and I hope you have fun playing it if you decide to buy it.
