Can you build a vibrant settlement, lead your people to prosperity, and tame the wild Hinterland?
  • Party-based RPG Action — A variety of characters, weapons, and strategies are at your disposal -- will you lead the charge with a devastating two-handed strike, or stand behind the herder in plate mail with your trusty bow?
  • Town Building — Choose your settlers from a huge cast of characters and arm them for defense, or give them tools for production.
  • Character Development — Develop lowly farmers into great warriors and customize your character with a variety of specializations.
  • Random fantasy world — Each game of Hinterland takes place in a new location with different resources, items, and challenges. Different challenges feature a range of enemies, including orc war camps, dark elf raiding parties, goblin infested mines, ruined cities filled with undead, and more.

Despite its flaws, Hinterland is a fun experience and well worth the ten dollar (non-sale) price tag.

Positives:
+ Good music (what there is) that fits the game's theme well
+ Simple to pick up controls and gameplay
+ Low system requirements

Negatives:
- Long load times at game startup or resume
- Glitches are common and can be game breaking
- Lackluster presentation and in-game interface

Hinterland is a game that is all about making your own fun. Pick your class and your rules, then begin your journey to conquer the lands around your village, bringing in resources and improving your town's standing as you go.

While the game's overall concept and execution are simple, it is nevertheless an engaging experience. Many other reviewers have likened it to a board game, and that really is the best way to think of it, not as an adventure RPG, but more like a strategy game.

While the game's general performance can be poor, it is never more than a minor nuisance, and the game features a great amount of replayability.

Great little game. querky at times, but not worth the $17 price tag anymore. its old hasn't had an update for quite a long time. Some issues with targetting monsters at times.
