About This Game

Tribes: Ascend is the world’s fastest shooter - a high-adrenaline, online multiplayer FPS with jetpacks, skiing, vehicles, and multiple classes. The classic shooter franchise Tribes has been played by well over 1 million people. With Tribes: Ascend, the franchise is reborn – fast-paced, vertical, acrobatic combat combined with class-based teamwork and stunning sci-fi visuals.

Key Features:

  • Skiing: A slow soldier is a dead soldier. By holding down space bar you remove friction and build momentum to traverse large maps, hunt down targets, and escape enemy territory at intense speeds.
  • Jetpacks: Total freedom of movement and aerial, dog-fight like combat.
  • Class-Based Combat: Unlock up to nine distinct classes, each with unique weapon loadouts and abilities.
  • Player Progression: As you play a class you gain experience which is used to unlock class-specific skills and perks. You can also share the xp gained while playing a favorite class to progress other classes.
  • Escalating Intensity: In each match you earn credits for shooting down enemies or supporting your team’s objectives. Use these match credits to upgrade base defenses, access vehicles, or call-in tactical strikes. The longer you play, the more chaotic the match becomes.
  • Vehicles: Pilot the powerful Beowulf tank, the speedy two-person Grav Cycle or the versatile flying Shrike.
  • Beautiful, Massive Battlefields: Wage war in a variety of open environments including frozen wastelands, sprawling cities, and jagged mountains.
  • Don’t Fight Alone: Friend-list allows you to link up with others and establish supremacy online
  • Free To Play... but not pay to win: All items affecting game play can be earned by playing the game itself. Players can purchase optional Tribes Gold to unlock classes more quickly and/or skills more quickly. Players will also be able to purchase cosmetic skins with Tribes Gold.
  • Spectator Mode: Highly-detailed spectator mode allows you to zoom in on your favorite players, view player data, and switch between action hot spots on the fly.

From Hi-Rez, they give you Tribes!

A quick jump around Future FPS

Controls and options are perfect for the PC Gamer

The connection is good

but hi-rez kind of left it for Smite, So don't expect any changes

Still a worthy download!

This game gives shame to the name Tribes if you have ever played the original version. Tribes: Ascend focuses on quick play snatch and capture mechanics with very limited ability to defend the flag other than chasing down the enemy constantly, which is very difficult due to the 10 second captures skilled players can do.

In the original "Starsiege: Tribes", any player could set all the defenses with each team having a resource cap on the amount of defences that could be set. In Ascend, each class has their own defence abiliy and only 1 per player. So ASSUMING your team even sets down their defense ability, you have a very very small defense to block the enemy.

Another problem I have is Starseige used to actually make getting the flag difficult by putting them IN buildings with many turns and hallways so a player could not simply fly past it and grab it like in Ascend.

This game falls so short of actually being competitive it's just sad.

This game is like, just, I,
So like, you're going REALLY FAST and then you're all like PEW PEW with an exploding laser but you shoot it RIGHT UNDER YOU so it explodes and launches you so your go EVEN FASTER, and then you try to shoot someone, but they're also going SUPER FAST but in a different direction and you can barely see them because people go so fast they're actually measured in SANICS
unfortunately, like, 1/3 of the classes are not built purely for going fast, and it really messes with the game. Also sometimes there are flags and teams and deathmatches. Still, I highly recomend it. If you spawn a tank on top of another tank, it does a backflip, so that's pretty cool. Best game of its kind ever

twas once a fun game but now it is dead. wish more games had sking with guns at 1000000M/s. this was one of the few shooters that took any real skill that i know of but i guess modern "gamers" dont like games that require skill and would rather the game did everything for them.

You fly around mountains and shoot people with weapons that require skill.
And you never want to be called a Shazbot, but you always call others Shazbots.

Wow! I was amazed when I first played this game. I hopped with one of my friends and I was in the action right away! I was reccomended it by one of my friends and I'm so happy that he did. It's like a mix of Star Wars, Halo and Call Of Duty. Although I had some promlems with the Hi-Rez Updater, the game is still up to speed and awesome.

People seem to confuse "pay4lazy/aesthetics(which are pointless as a tiny spec) with pay4unfair advantage.

You can say this game is pay2notgrind, but that's boring. Paying unlocks all the perks, classes and weapons that are unlockable anyway by fighting matches. When you git gud at this game, no paying idiot will ever be a match for you.

I love the gameplay, the weps, everything. The only thing is that there's no option for people not living in the server areas. And the ping is one problem. Other that that, this game is awesome!

This game used to be good... I've been a beta tester for 20 years now and I beta tested this game and it was fun, now it is pay to win and the devs cheat for paying players. I do not suggest you play this game unless you want to be beaten by 12 year olds whose parents paid for them to have the best weapons and then have the devs cheat for them on top of that.

Do NOT play this game you will not have fun unless you just want to ski around and get shot by 12 year olds.

So where to being with Tribes: Ascend? Well, it's a take on one of my favorite FPSes of it's time. I personally started on the PS2 with Tribes: Aerial Assault which was a stripped down and easier version of Tribes 2. I fell in love with AA that I bought Tribes 2 for my PC (which I couldn't run on my laptop at the time). So when I saw T:A coming out I was psyched and actually got a BETA key for it off of Kotaku. Needless to say, I was uber excited.

I didn't go in expecting it to be an exact replica of the series, since it was a free to play model but I put in about 100+ hours into it before it hit steam. The Skiiing and fast paced action of Tribes was there. Mid-air spinfusor shots and lobbing fusion mortars across the map and onto the flag carrier is a feeling of great joy and all based on timing skill (or a bit of luck, probably both).

Most of the classes you have to buy now and while it's possible to put enough time into it to unlock them, it still feels very pay-to-win. Reading other reviews on here and it shows that what was once a promsing F2P, the devs simply gave up on it. Like another reviewer on here said: If you're a fan of the Tribes series, give it a download and try it out. Otherwise, if you want to play Tribes, stick to Tribes 2 and the community upkept servers.

The launcher is very buggy. I opened the game for the fist time, and it installed necessary software. Took about 5 minutes. Then a window opened saying it was opening said software. 2 minutes later, it said that it failed to open. The launcher opened and it said that it was verifying my download. It said this for about 5 minutes. Then a window opened saying that the launcher needed to restart to download the update. No problem, closed and re-opened. It installed the pdate and the launcher opened, saying that it was verifying the download. Then about a minute later, yet another window opened saying that there was an error downloading the update and that I should restart my computer.

That was the shortest time I had a game installed on my computer (~15 minutes).

1/10
