This little game is a classic web browser platformer brought into the next gen with revamped graphics, added trucks and maps, and an improved sound track with many glitches removed. While this won't please all the big time gamers with the trading economy and all, this is more of a stand alone 2D platformer, but it's likely anyone taking a look at this game is in it for the Accurate monster trucking experience,or at least something fun related to the big bouncy-wheeled giants we have all come to know and love.
This is definetly meant to be the latter,as the trucks here are not any of the IRL ones, though the school bus truck is based off of a real life one. However, the physics for the bounces and different terrains are about as perfect as you can get. Every bounce, bend, flip and save feels like your in complete control. Those arrow keys are the steering wheel and your along for the ride to get to the end of that level.
There are 3 medals, gold silver and bronze. Every medal is 5 seconds longer. So for example gold could be 30 seconds, silver 35 seconds, bronze 40 seconds, and after that you would fail the level. Luckily all the stages are fairly short, and there are boost tanks, exploding crush cars, dynamite, breakable walls, loops, and much much more to help you carve your very own way to the end of the stage. Now lets review the trucks.
Miniclip truck: this classic truck was the old favorite,a blue truck with flames unlocked by default. Pays tribute to the website the game originated on. Default performance can flip/roll/save easily and realistically, slightly faster than schoolbus.
Redlynx Truck: the second truck unlocked by default. Not sure what a "RedLynx" is. :/ Default performance lets it flip/roll realistically and is about as fast as the F1 car.
Schoolbus Truck: what it sounds like. big bus on monster tires. A large heavier truck that can flip/roll/save like the defaults, but moves a bit slower. Longer wheelbase makes it get caught on a lotta stuff.
Pig truck: A pig driving a kart with monster tires. Performs like an RC car going a bit slower and flipping/rolling/saving easily
F1 Truck: An Indy-Car on monster tires, surprisingly performs like an indy car being lower to the ground, harder to flip/wheelie/save,and much faster. With boost and a good ramp it can clear a large chunk of the stage.
The announcer in this game seems EXTREMELY dedicated when you get the certain medals, and depending on which medal his emotions change. Gold he shouts and hollers and cheers you to victory, silver he gives you a kind pat on the back and a good job, bronze he is neutral, and no medal he gives an annoyed "UGH".
One thing with the boost i found out is,you can't save it up. The second you grab it,USE IT. It was there for a reason. If you don't do that you will die A LOT.
In the end this is a great little game,THE MOST REALISTIC monster truck game i have ever played! Don't think that being 2 dimensional takes anything away from it. Is it worth the normal price of 20 dollars? To the trading or just "meh,i'll play this because it looks ok",maybe not. But to a true monster truck fan that looks for realism and fun, this is THE best option, and it is DEFINETLY worth the money, and being able to get it easier on steam is a welcome bonus!
I give this game a 10/10.
