Hva utviklerne har å si:

“The game takes audio and smashes it against math to create these gorgeous levels. When folks tell us it's great, we know we're working in the right direction. When they say it's awful, we like to ask why. We didn't used to, but the best thing we do nowadays is to run every coolest little thing we do by you. How about this new city? This mutator? That new stunt? A new connection between music and level design? That's the "why" behind Early Access for us.”

Om dette spillet

Battle your favorite drum 'n' bass track, or relax as you fly through that trance album. "Ugly Baby" takes your MP3 music library and creates floating cities for you to explore. Ten years after the events in Dejobaan's award-winning AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! -- A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, technology has advanced to the point where individuals can create architecture with colossal 3D printers.

You've taken to building giant, kilometers-long aerial sculptures inspired by your own music, and are now BASE jumping from them for sport. These jumps are all about style and timing. Buzz those girders, groove along that building, and finish with a twist for extra points, all the while listening to your own soundtrack. Ugly Baby is currently available as a playable pre-release on Steam.

Key features:

  • Play different floating worlds built from your MP3 library
  • Execute stunts such as buzzes and grooves.
  • Tweak a city's DNA to warp them and create your own experiences.

What can I say about this game. It is the first early access game on steam. A game that has been in a state of early access for 4 years and 8 months(April 1st, 2011) and no sign of ever going gold. In fact, it has been so long since it's last update that it has almost been as long since it was updated as the offical launch of early access games on steam. If Valve had taken a look at how early access worked for this game I doubt they would have ever allowed any early access games on steam. Why any game that has not been updated in over two years without being formally released is allowed to stay avalible to customers to purchase is beyond me.

Truthfully, it's not a horrible game but it is far from great. Most of my hours came from stress testing a video card. This game would cause crashes more often then any other I owned at the time. The rest came from the 2011 potato thingy for portal 2 launch. If your a fan of games that use your own music to generate levels I would recommend a bunch of others others over this one. Even Dejobann's other game AAAAaaaAAaaAAaaaaAAAA!!!!! does the concept much better and is more polished than this rendition. I just can't recommend this game to other people.

the developers sure did drop this game like an ugly baby, in early access, unfinished, because they had no idea what direction to take it in so now it's just a boring tech demo

This is an unfinished piece of software with a horrible name that tries way to hard to make you interested. The gameplay is poorly explained, which leads to an experience that barely functions as a game, let alone a music player. Go buy audiosurf if you want a procedurally generated music player that allows you to interact with it. This was the worst free gift I have ever personally recieved, why steam still has this as a purchaseable item in their store is beyond me.

I own all of the games released by Dejobaan to date except for Elegy for a Dead World. This game is probably my largest disappointment. They grew bored of the concept and abandoned it and the promise it had. I like the idea of games generated by the music playing, and it's successfully executed elsewhere, but, not here. It boils down to the fact that while this game exists, it's here, and it doesn't SUCK, it's not worth grabbing because there's no further promise to the game and it's really not all that finished.
