The game is great, the Steam release has more bugs than a baitstore though. Can i blame Ubisoft for this? Naw...
If you can: buy a DVD version, if you buy it here get ready to fix bugs manually.

Great tactical shooter, the AI in this game is the best in the entire TC series imho, it's better than the AI in GRAW2 as well.

Évaluation avant sortie
From the outlook, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW) may look like a very solid tactical shooter. Published by Ubisoft and developed by GRIN, everything seems to be in order – a top franchise, a solid developer with a good track record. But something went wrong. In the previous entries in the series (pre-Vegas Rainbow Six), the tactical shooter genre was basically defined by Clancy’s games. They were not perfect, of course, but for their time they were among the best games available. With GRAW, Ubisoft has decided to start a new sub-franchise, a version of the alternative Tom Clancy storyline revolving around a set of conflicts in foreign nations. While there are some improvements over the Rainbow Six franchise, GRAW has a set of it’s own issues that makes it difficult to recommend for anyone other than fans of the series and Tom Clancy games.

This game is beautiful tactic FPS with awesome style of moving with your team. You can choose many ways how to solve your mission. Always you and your team. For me, this game is in TOP of tactic/stealth shooters. Of course on store page, the screenshots are diferent, cuz i think they are from Play Station version, which suck... so dont trust in screenshots on store page, better check online. And Steam version have one bug with commanding your team, so you must manualy change it in one document, which is not big deal. But still. AWESOME GAME. I am playing it from 2008 and I still love it.

Great game, but be warned that the video shown above is from the Xbox 360 version of the game and doesn't accurately represent this version. The two games are very different, the least of which is that this version is in first-person. If you're looking for a third-person game, this is not it. If you don't care about the camera perspective and want a fun tactical shooter, grab this game.

It would be a good game but just on consoles maybe - the port is soooo awful! The time I spent looking for solution with cross-com menu which didn't work and 1 glitched mission totally determined my view on this game. Eventually I did finish it, but the bugs put me off playing it again.
Fact that the video on steam store page is from console version (PC is FP view) speaks for itself - ubisoft didn't put much effort in this port.
P.S.: Advanced Warfighter 2 was less buggy, but IMO still not worthy...

This is a game built around squad commands in which THE SQUAD COMMANDS DON'T WORK. Do not play this on PC because it is completely broken. I hear it's fine on consoles, though.

Truly a great proper pc game, and majority of pc users still loathed ubisoft with their horrible DRM crap, anyway apart from this warfighter is an absolute gem...the graphics can looks stunning with a sort of yellowie impressions, gun firing's sound is quite good too and also it's best to use K/M since there is no game pad for this but you'll love this tactical FPS shooter alright . the mouse's binding is a bit lame and it dosen't set to how you want it done especially for cross-com..however it's still a decent pc port rather than a crappy console's port unlike today many games for pc are poorly done...

if you're still keen to get this to work using the mouse properly (middle wheel),: go to steam folder>steamapps>common then see GRAW folder >setting folder> and see "ctrl_set_def.xml" file and profiles folder & see "profile.xml" file then change to notepad ending with .txt instead of .xml to open up then add the missing binding (see below) and return to .xml when you've finished.!

like this :

you need to add the missing binding for the middle mouse wheel :
<button id="hud_use/action" binding="3" device="mouse" group="misc"/>

avoid the screen loading freezes-dont use full screen mode

Really great game, REALLY, tactical fun and shooting, but if you go online in coop, ALWAYS make the server do the interactive things! Don't want to go through the whole mission again just because the chopper never went down....

Ive been a long time hardcore Ghost Reon player and loved the original game. but this game isn't made by a game lover, it's made by some peeeeep that only wants to make money. I'm just in the 3 level and I had to use google 3 times allready to find key settings. and no it's not me, it's the way this peace of.... was programmed. also i get all kinds off glitches which make me feel that this game was rushed. Or steam did not implement the updates which i find hard to believe

A sorry tragedy. Near-constant crashing, combined with unpatched game-breaking graphical, input, AI, communication and audio bugs, make GRAW almost impossible to play, and certainly impossible to enjoy. Ubisoft should hang their heads in shame for continuing to sell this buggy piece of crap. Utterly unworthy of the name Ghost Recon.

Just play Rainbow Six: Vegas instead.

This game likes to pick and choose what it wants to be realistic. Sure you can be killed by a couple bullets and there's no recharging health but it leads to tedious trial and error with no quick saves with stingy checkpoints spaced 10-15 mins apart. The fact that there are no standard tactical equipment like smoke grenades or flashbangs makes me seriously question the actual tactical value of the game. Those items would have been a big help approaching enemies that manned machine gun nests with the range of a sniper rifle. What also doesn't help is that your allies are as dumb as a doorknob. When you want to order them to a location you have to babysit them constantly else the pathfinding will have them run right into the enemies' firing zone. They also often get stuck behind some piece of level geometry. When they do reach their destination you better hope they take cover and not stand there in the open eating enemy fire. It would have been nice if there was a cover system for yourself considering that every other soldier in the game could take cover. It would have also been nice if you could mark targets considering your allies do it all the time. It would have also been nice if you could order the squadmate that you equipped with a rocket to fire it at a tank, especially since your own rocket launcher has a miserly ammo capacity of one. Because of this there are several occasions where you will just have to dodge tank fire and hope that your squadmates, who are walking to cover like it's a Sunday stroll in the park, don't eat a tank shell forcing you to reload a checkpoint once again.

The game doesn't even attempt to make any of your squadmates compelling characters. Instead you will be using them like cannon fodder by sending them out to scout ahead so they can eat the first bullet. The story in this game is clumsily presented via poorly produced videos on your hud. The actual content of the story makes CoD look like Shakespeare in comparison making you feel like you have amnesia because you can't remember a single character in the game.

Graphically the game has not aged well with some bland repetitive enviroments and a color palette consisting of a persistent yellow. It's rather silly how often the city feels like a ghost town with your squad appearing to be the only opposing military force in the city. I'm not even going to mention the abundance of silly bugs I found.

Bad. ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥♥ucking piece of ♥♥♥♥. Ignore this. Veer from this piece of detritous like the plague. It bears no resemblance to the greatness that was the original Ghost Recon and its expansions.

What's wrong? ♥♥♥ loads of bugs for one - from terrain hit boxes that don't match the visible terrain models, to scripted events that don't occur consistently or properly, sometimes requiring the repetition of an entire level (indeed, one was an impasse), to AI that is inexcusably ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and inept (though the enemy are occasionally like laser-wielding snipers). For another, the tactical interface was scrounged from anal leakage and other unseemly bodily discharge. It's too clunky as to allow quick tactical commands to be issued, as they'll often be imprecise and the friendly AI suck too much to follow the orders well anyway. Plus friendly AI are like to die quickly. The game doesn't even run well and seems to lack a lot of basic compatibility with modern hardware and software. All of these missions are linear and unimpressive in everyway. The city -- Mexico City or Genericcentralorsouthamerican City -- yields a layout that betrays a desire to constrain the player's tactical options as much as possible. Objectives seldom make sense as they are portrayed, for instance having to defend the rubble of an embassy when one could have easily moved the VIP personnel some distance to, you know, decrease their likelihood of dying while waiting for an EVAC helicopter. Alas, that is the sort of thing one would expect of real-life SOCOM search and rescue sort of units, and therefore the very last thing GRAW wants to portray.

Yes, this is a game from around 2005 or so, but I can play Half-Life 2 or Doom 3 and see quality there even ten years forward, not to mention even older games like Doom (1, 2), Half-Life, Blood, and so forth; so that time aged this so poorly is yet another indictment. This is not even a mediocre game by today's standards. It's trash. It is not a classic, whereas the original Ghost Recon was. Even if it's on sale, ignore this and go for the first. It ain't pretty graphically, but the experience sure beats this by lightyears.
