One of the best stealth games ever made, as well as the best and the last good Splinter Cell game. Highlights include:

-multiple ways to navigate the levels and accomplish objectives, ranging from equipment selection to the paths you can take. There is a true freedom of choice, even when you find yourself in a forced encounter later in the game.

-high character interactivity: Fisher can walk or crouch walk at different speeds, vault over walls, climb pipes, balance himself between 2 walls, enter airducts, pick up and throw objects, roll, jump, whistle, hack electronics from a distance, use weapons ambidextrously, cut through tent walls, and more. Most of the things you can imagine doing in the situations you find yourself in, you can.

-the shadows still look great today, and there are environmental effects like clothing getting wet when exposed to rain. Most modern games today don't have these.

-realistic interactions with the environment: water conducts electricity, unconscious people die if they're dropped from too high, knocking someone unconscious on water and not carrying him off will cause him to drown, carrying bodies around is taxing for Fisher and slows him down, etc. You feel like you're in a realistic world controlling a person that has physical limits.

-amazing and cool soundtrack that stays varied through the entire game

-robust stealth: enemies are fairly smart and don't have memories that expire in 2 seconds (and doing stupid things like whistling when near them will immediately get them to shooting), stages have many surveillance devices or traps, alarms make enemies more resilient and paranoid, environmental sound and light are always deciding factors for the approach you have to take, your equipment provides help in so many different ways (such as using sticky cameras to scout ahead and even distract guards)

-point system that encourages perfectionist players to play the game with no kills and no detections as it is really supposed to be played, as well as no-kill restrictions on some levels

-great dialogue and banter between Fisher and the other characters paint an interesting and multi-dimensional picture of him as a character. These were not the days when everybody were edgy and angry killing machines; Fisher jokes around with friends and enemies but also shows concern and anger at times, such as when ordered by Lambert to leave plane-wrecked pilots in a site that is soon to be bombed, and even makes political commentary. Grimsdottir is not an action girl but a computer nerd that jokes about her grade school days. Many enemies have their own unique interrogation dialogues (and these were actual interrogations brought on by a display of force, not torture as in Conviction) and quite a few are portrayed sympathetically.

-interesting and fairly complex story that doesn't work in its entirety, but is pretty good otherwise. Also notes to discover and read that reveal small details about the present events in the game's timeline.

-co-op and multiplayer modes that feel completely different from the singleplayer experience. The co-op mode is not just great fun, its storyline also intersects with the singleplayer's. The multiplayer puts heavily armed mercenaries that see the world in first person versus lightly armed but agile and resourceful Splinter Cell-like spies that have a third person camera.

-no regenerating health but limited numbers of health pickups scattered around. In the hardest difficulty detection is frequently synonymous with death.

A must play for anyone interested in the stealth genre, as well as a timeless reminder taht Ubisoft used to be able to make great games.

Pros
  • The most refined stealth mechanics I've ever seen. It's so perfect
  • Sam Fisher is an overwhelmingly lovable character
  • Funny and humorous voice-acting
  • Long story
  • The graphics are still acceptable today, and it was made in 2005!
  • Amazing and groovy soundtrack

Cons
  • Easy to get lost, maps are most of the time little help. I really like the 3D design but you are unable to interact with it
  • Sloppy animations
  • Prepare your F5's and F8's

Overall: 9.8/10, a must-own for stealth fans. The pros overhwelm the cons

This game rocks!

Even though this game was released 11 years ago, it is still very enjoyable, beautiful in its own way and quite challenging.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, is certainly the best game in the series -- it ticks all the boxes for a lover of stealth.

If you enjoy stealth action games, with a slightly cheesey plot with strong characters, gameplay and a high degree of replayability, this one should be on your list, and you should have bought it a long time ago.

If you haven't, shame on you. Go do it now.

The last good Splintercell. The story of this game is in my opinion really cool.

pros:
Graphics are still okay by today`s standarts.
not too hard but not too easy
you can dropkick the ♥♥♥♥ out of your enemys
each level is a small open world that you can infiltrate how you like
AI is very good for such an old game

cons:
controls are a bit ♥♥♥♥ when you first start the game (shift=jump, scrollwheel=speed your running at, E=aim down sights, etc)
even though the AI is good for an old game it sometimes does really stupid ♥♥♥♥( if you repeatedly switch the light on and off they just stand there and do nothing)

All in all the game is really fun, so if you are a stealth game fan GO BUY IT

Best Splinter Cell ever.
I have all splinter cell.
A Must play if you\'re a stealth games fan.

WHY?

This one is what splinter cell is meant to be.
-Slow Pace Gameplay like what Stealth game should be, No Executions, no last position advantage like Conviction or Blacklist. When you\'re spotted you\'re as good as dead.
/-More Interrogation than Any of Splinter cell combined. It makes the game more immersive.
-More Realistic enemy than SC1 and SCPT. Not like when you got attention of 1 enemy the whole base look at your position.

-Story is more of a suspense and Spy-ish than Conviction and Blacklist where it\'s full of Melodrama and cliches.
-Funny dialogues. Just LOL

Only problem now is this game aged too much. Nobody likes slow pace stealth game anymore.

Chaos Theory is the proverbial second Spliner Cell game, and it shows. Like a lot of series, the second game is often the best. It perfected the system of the first, and it hasn't gone downhill yet. Kinda like Assassin's Creed 2 is still considered one of the best, if not the best. Games in that aspect, tends to follow the same rules as movies.
Sure there was Pandora Tomorrow in between, but no one wants to remember Pandora Tomorrow... It could as well not exist seeing it's not in the bundle and it's apparently unplayable due to shadow issues.

Thoses considerations aside, Chaos Theory pretty much improved on all aspects. Graphisms are nice, still good nowdays without being stellar, animations are fluid, Fisher got new moves, the HUD give more indications on the noise you emit and the lighting, missions are more intresting and involved, people you grab can be interrogated for some pretty hilarious, or sometimes meaningful dialogues, and controls are a lot more PC friendly.

Scenario isn't really that much better than the first game, Fisher is going to save the US/Free World again, against a group of mooks no one really cares about and which are easyly forgetable.

The game is more about its gameplay, which is pretty good at what it does, without being the miracle people would like it to be. You will probably enjoy your time playing it, bar some minor annoyances such as scripted events you have limited to no control on, then put the game on a shelf.
A good purchase to get during a sale, at least, and a classic.
