About This Game

Unreal Tournament is the original King of the Hill in the frag-or-be-fragged multiplayer gaming world. As the undisputed 1999 Game of the Year, Unreal Tournament grabbed the first person shooter genre by the soiled seat of its pants and knocked it around the room with its never-before-seen graphics, brutal edge-of-your-seat gameplay and a massive and varied feature list that gave gamers more than they ever expected.
  • Novice Mode - This Botmatch competition is where new flak fodder hit boot camp. The Novice setting makes the computer controlled Bots in the game move slower and inflict less damage with their attacks. For those new to first person shooters, this is where teeth are cut, skills are born and addiction begins...
  • Hardcore Mode - Strap on extra armor and have a hand towel next to your mouse pad to wipe away the palm sweat. This mode is only for the pros -- all of the bots move like lightning -- dodging, jumping and inflicting A LOT more damage with their standard attacks than do their Novice counterparts.
  • Enhanced Bot AI - Bots in Unreal Tournament play as if they're jacked up on a big old shot of steroids. Their basic deathmatching skills have been virtually perfected, their understanding of the game rules is professorial, their ability to navigate levels is GPS-like, and their threat to your existence is very real.
  • Radio Chatter - Each of the commands at your disposal in the game is accompanied by both a text message on screen AND an audio message. Pleas for back-up or for cover fire are accompanied by pre-recorded sequences communicating your needs. Making this especially cool is the fact that you can hear your opponents' messages too (even if you're playing against bots 'cause bots are people, too).
  • New Command Line Options - For the hardcore server masters, this is the dream way to access features and manage a game. Virtually any option you want to tweak can be accessed via the UT command line. Nice and easy!
  • Improved User Interface - Unreal Tournament introduced a better way to see what is happening during a game. By using a unique heads up display (HUD) for each game type (Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination, and Assault), the game provides ALL the info needed to play effectively WITHOUT bombarding the player with excessive info.
  • UBrowser - Unreal Tournament's robust Ubrowser system provides the easiest way to find a game on the Internet and jump into battle. The Ubrowser eliminates the need to download third-party server querying applications. It's as simple as one-two-frag. By clicking on the "Play Online" button and then selecting a server from the list, the game is on.
  • Spectator Cams - Watching a game of Unreal Tournament has the potential to be almost as much fun as playing it. Thanks to the Spectator Cams, gamers can enter a game and hop around to designated Spectator Cams to view the action on the level. Even cooler, the camera can be "attached" to one of the players in the level to view the action from their perspective. Either way, it's a cool feature and a great way to learn for people new to the world of online gaming.
  • Jump Mode - Jump twice as high as normal. It's sorta' like having a never-ending pair of jumpboots on. The impact these boots have on gameplay is almost indescribable. It changes the dynamic completely.

Classic deathmatch at it's best. Made in 1999 and it still has good graphics! Well, I mean the graphics are OK, but the game is amazing!

I can't even express how much I love this game.
I used to have a lot of fun during LAN parties with friends, it was so much fan and when I play it today it brings me back to those days :)

If you ask me, this game is much better than UT2k4 and UT3.
Highly recommended.

I love this game, I really enjoy playing with the impressive AI bots. This goes to show that every FPS game with deathmatches should have impressive AI bots. What if there's an old game that nobody ever plays anymore and you can't play online anymore? What if the servers are shut down? Unreal Tournament still has online deathmatches, but I prefer playing online. Games like Counter-Strike and Quake needed AI bots like this.

I've only played this game for 17 hours at the time of this writing, but I can safely say that this is one of the best shooters I've played in my time playing video games.
Where even to start? All the guns perform great and are easy to use. The campaign is a biy meh, but the robustness of the matches you can create with the bots means you can sink hours into this just seeing how the matches will play out. There's well over 20 maps on offer here, which is something unheard of in the modern market. The graphics are simple and blocky, but are serviceable enough, and the music and sound effects are excellent. You can still play it online. I was able to find full servers for deathmatch even 17 years after the initial release. You can also mod it as much as you please, as the modding community is still active to this day. One mod I would suggest if you do this would be ChaosUT. It adds new maps and weapons, my personal favorite being the sword. This game is 10 dollars, and you could potentially get hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of it. So give it a shot, and see what shooters used to be like.

I can remember when I first bought this game years ago. It was one of the best times of my life (Partially because of this game). This is one of the best Arena Shooters ever. If you ever played a good Halo game (Multiplayer) you can thank games like Unreal Tournament and Quake for that enjoyment. Because Halo is also an Arena shooter but these games brought the genre to the light. This game had gameplay beyond any other shooter in its time. Its a lot of fun, the bots in this game are amazing, and its probably one of the most bug free games I've ever played. The maps are mostly symmetrical (Caters towards fun and even gameplay so the only thing that seperates players is skill) and very easy to learn. If you want to get really good at games like this you're going to want to learn where the weapons spawn and how long it takes them to respawn. The movement mechanics in games like this are essentials to learn. You can learn to use the dodge feature, Rocket jumping and many other mechanics. Overall this game is one of the best shooters I've ever played. I recommend this game to everyone. The devekopers are making another new Unreal Tournament and you should check it out, just look up Unreal Tournament (Its free and in its Alpha state currentely)

You know there are things you loved as a kid but you go back to now and they're just not as good. Campbell's Meatballs. Angel Delight. Jon Pertwee as Dr Who.

Unreal Tournament is JUST as good as I remember. Okay I'd have got it when I was in my twenties but 17 years makes this archaic in first persion shooter terms but it is still the neat brutal shooter I remember.

Get your settings sorted out - this predates WASD. Also turn the brightness up to max - the bots are too strong to try and play in the dark. You have good control over your friendly Bots and the A.I. is a good balance of competent but fallible.

The weapons mix is some of the best ever and armour comes directly from Doom - so very well balanced

Opposing Worlds. Man. Sat in unearthly silence high above an alien world, the moons drifting in the background. Shooting enemy bots dead with head shot after head shot from your sniper rifle. GODLIKE ! Too right brother, too right.

The later levels of Capture the Flag are still insanely deadlocked because since on death everyone respawns instantly at their home base even if you can battle your way into the enemy base alive it's virtually impossible to battle your way out again. But Sub Pen is riotous fun for all that.

This game was released when games came out as good as they were going to get - no DLC, no patches. That 17 years later it STILL rates with the best is a testament to how good the developers were back then - and perhaps how their modern counterparts need to revaklue their priorities.

S.x.

I love this game very much, however I can't recommend the steam version due to the fact that it is not the "Game of the Year Edition" and contains false advertising all over the steam page. The real GOTY edition includes the Chaos UT and Rocket Arena mods, which this version does not.

At the end of this review I leave one request:
DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION TILL THEY INCLUDE THE REAL GOTY CONTENT!

You can not run, bend down, call supports, camper.
You can not buid equip, upgrade your skill, earn experience, make money.
No DLC, no social content, no connection required, no character customization.
No 360 Quick Scope, no vehicles, no allies.

You will die, torn apart, in the silence of indifference.

Not Call of Duty.
No stats.
No ranks.
No kids that ♥♥♥♥ someone's mother a thousand of times.
No cinematics.
Not Call of Duty.
Bots.
No kids yelling.

This game is seriously amazing but the community is not big, there are still people playing to keep it alive but it's not like Counter Strike or AAA titles, you won't see a thousand of servers with players on every servers but you'll find enough to have fun on it, the game is perfect, one of if not the best, FPS of all times, you should really get every Quake and Unreal Tournament games.

Those games will makes you dream.

11/10 Would buy again, there should be more area games like this and Quake and less ♥♥♥♥ like Call of Duty and nowadays cinematics FPS.
