Happy Halloween Minions!

We do love Halloween, and it’s easily our fourth most favourite time of year. The Minions always seem exceptionally chipper, perhaps it’s because the pumpkin fields are overflowing with their orangey goodness. Unfortunately it’s not all great; one does remember the awful mess that the Minions made last year, who would have known pumpkin vomit would be so explosive.

To distract us from the impending mess, and not to mention the smell, we’ve slashed the prices on the entire Overlord series over on Steam, including the Complete Pack.

Prices start from a spooktacular 87p!

About This Game

How evil can you get?

Discover how corruptible you are in Overlord, the twisted fantasy action adventure where you can be evil (or really evil). In the game's seriously warped fantasy world, players will become the Overlord and get first-hand experience of how absolute power corrupts absolutely. You could be a regular run-of-the-mill Overlord. However, with incredible power at your disposal and a team of evil-minded impish critters, the Minions, on hand to do your bidding, how will you resist the temptation to be wonderfully despotic?!

Go deeper into the Overlord's twisted world as the single-player expansion content opens a series of hellish new levels, each a supernatural abyss for the game's five kingdoms: Mellow Hills, Evernight, Heaven's Peak, the Golden Halls and the Ruborian Desert. Access to each abyss is via a portal, which opens once a kingdom has been successfully conquered and the previous ruler banished to a personal hell within. However it's not just the fallen heroes that have been dragged into the abyss: the Overlord's newly loyal peasants have also been taken down into hell too.

With the undead denizens of each abyss on the attack and threatening the Overlord's reign above ground, there's only one thing for it: assemble your minion army, descend into each abyss and embark on a fresh wave of tyranny in order to return the serfs to their homelands, defeat the fallen heroes once and for all, and claim the throne of each kingdom's underworld.

INCLUDES THE OVERLORD CHALLENGE PACK:
Come and have a go if your Overlord's hard enough. All new pillaging fun with seven additional online multiplayer maps, including the competitive ‘Capture the Maiden’ map and ‘Protect Your Power’, where players must defend the Overlord's tower against waves of enemy attack.

  • THINK EVIL, BREED EVIL, CONTROL ALL! Get in the action and become the Overlord, the all powerful dark lord with a horde of minions to command and a land to conquer.
  • CONTROL A HORDE OF MINIONS Slavish and loyal they'll smash, destroy, kill and steal anything for you. Your word is law.
  • BECOME THE OVERLORD Do you want fear, respect, gold and power? Become the most powerful being in the world by any means necessary.
  • CONQUER A TWISTED FANTASY WORLD Show the Seven Heroes, demonic Halflings, and Rabid Unicorns who's boss.

I Like:
+ still funny ideas
+ five new chapters in a underworld
+ new difficulty

I Dont Like:
- game principle over the long term monotonous
- the underworld missions become available only after completing the main game

With the expansion of 'Raising Hell' is now the first replenishment for all fans of the evil Commander available.
Which provides 'Raising Hell' at all? First and foremost are the five new levels, which were integrated into the game. It is a kind of parallel world levels, the five major sections of 'Overlord' correspond to the topic here.

So you visited again the hills, the sky top, the dark forest, the golden mountains and the desert Ruborische. However, the formerly idyllic scenarios now playing in an underworld and accordingly also the enemies, including the well-known bosses behave a little differently. The idea of five underworld sections is certainly very interesting and leads the commanding the minions more skillfully, but without setting new accents.

Furthermore offers 'Raising Hell' still forging new formulas in order to create more powerful weapons using your minions can. But first you must have found in the underworlds of the extension hidden molds. In the dungeon you can continue to compete against all enemies already defeated again. However, new, more serious challenges are now at defeating certain enemy combinations unlocked. Naturally, you will also compete against the new enemies from the underworld.

The ideas of the extension are nice and offer fans of the evil overlords more exciting game hours.

Score: 78 / 100

This DLC adds portals to all the realms you had completed in the base game Overlord.
These portals lead to the hell version of the realm you were in. which end with a boss fight.
An end boss is in the final hell realm if you can find it.

There are some hidden weapons and armor in the realms and a higher difficulty for gameplay. You need to use your minions more to complete objectives.

-The good parts:
  • Feels just like the base game Overlord, so you can jump right in.
  • Graphics seems to be a bit improved and effects seem to be used a bit more.
  • Environments look and feel a little better this time.
  • Hidden secrets are back.
  • Levels are not to small and big.
  • Decent game lenght.
  • Challenging, but not to difficult.
  • Level design is better than the base game Overlord.
  • The Minion Master is still annoying as how he gives orders to you ;p.

-Bad parts:
  • Price is to high if you just want to buy the DLC. This DLC is shorter to the base game, but costs more money for some reason.
  • I bought it when it was on sale and that was for the whole Overlord package, just before the time of this writing.
  • Minions sweeping still does not respond well for most of the time. My camera jumps random when I began to sweep and locks itself untill you reset the sweep.
  • Feels a little more linear than the base game.
Rating : 7,5

-First impressions (not relevant for this actual review, just for my first minutes into the DLC):
Not good as all they added are portals to new levels, no weapons/armor, no new minions, to linear.

That is it for this review. Comment, etcetera so I can write these allot better. So you guys have an even better indication to leave this one alone or not.

A great game, with uniqe gameplay mecanics.
The pc controls take a while to get used to, but once you do, it's awesome!

The story was surprisingly good and the charachters are very likeable.
Similar to fable you can choose to be good or evil... Actually its more like, evil and very evil. Anyhow, it ads to the game and gives it a decent amount of replayability.

My only complaint is that I never managed to figure out how to change my spells, with the mouse and keybord controlers. I actualy had to swap between gamepad and keyboard a few times.

In conclusion.
A great game that is worth cheeking out.

Imagine Pikmin, but instead of charming creatures you pull out of the ground, you have poorly animated monstrosities and instead of trying to get home, you try to subjugate and reign over the many areas you visit. Not sold yet?

If you asked me, out of all the games I've played, which one feels "the most game", Overlord would almost definitley be mentioned. And that's a really good thing. It's got one primary mechanic that dominates the game, natural progession with you the player growing stronger and stronger, quests, lots of failure near the end, and a decent final boss.

There are some games that, although really good, fall closer to the realm of "art" than "entertainment". Overlord falls into the latter with utmost confidence, and it's honestly pretty refreshing.

Give Overlord a shot, I'm sure you'll be hard pressed to not enjoy it.

A decent offering of DLC.

The DLC basically call upon the Overlord to come into a elseworld version of the first games trials.
Pretty similer to what you already loved (or hated) from the first game.

I cant say I could stomach the repetion. However, if you cant wait to fill the Overlords shoes once again, go fo it!

Pros:
Kinda funny
Decent graphics
Easy Concept

Cons:
If you start on the hardest difficulty you will hate yourself and this game
Farming type of game
Can be so frusturating that you break the controller because hitler himself made this game and then it was reviewed by the 7 layers of hell and determined unfit to play so then the devil edited it until he rage quit. He then broke the game gave it to Matt Hassleback who through it to T.O. for a touchdown. He spiked the ♥♥♥♥ outta this game in the end zone. So once you beat this game you are in the end zone (where you through your computer because you just wasted 66.6 hours of your life).

Other:
Would recommend playing on easy if you actually want to enjoy the game.
Orrr do what I did fully crank the game first round and end up in the end zone and buy a new monitor...

I love this game. I kinda remindes me of the Fable series on how people react to what you do and what you can do. Want to murder an entire village? Go for it. Want to steal their food supply that you just got back from a giant halfling? Whatever man, just do it.

Ever wanted to be rich?
Ever wanted power?
Ever wanted to pillage and kill as you please?
Ever wanted to be an evil overlord?
Well this game does all that and more!!!
It's a game that truly makes you feel like an evil overlord that can control minions to ravage the land and take over the world (and with the Rasing Hell Expansion pack even the abyss!). Alongside it's brilliantly cruel humour it also has nice graphics (don't really feel that they are too dated). The gameplay mechanics are simple but fun (although the minions can sometimes get themselves killed because they're not following orders correctly).
All in all it's a really great game and i defineatly think it's a must have in your steam archive. :D

Overlord, it's like Pikmin with demons!

+ original concept
+ humour
+ fun to play
+ be an evil overlord and customise your lair

- gets a bit repetitive

Score: 3/5, would get Overlord 2 over this one though, it's so much better!

PS. Didn't play through all of the expansion because I was so burnt out on the main game!
