SACRED GOLD is the complete SACRED collection in one box, containing the full version of SACRED, winner of the 'Best Roleplaying Game 2004' award from PC GAMER, Sacred Plus and Sacred Underworld.
SACRED - The new name in Action-RPGs. SACRED delivers a huge, elaborate world comprising 16 regions beset with heroic quests, battle-hardened warriors and horrific enemies. Ancaria consists of highly detailed landscapes, complete with villages and towns, and also features a day/night cycle with varying weather systems. Regions vary from forests and mountains to deserts, catacombs and ice-covered landmasses. More than three quarters of the world is open to the players from the very start - no unlocks needed.
SACRED Plus - Incorporates all of the feedback from the player community since the first release of SACRED. This includes an optimized interface, and many completely new features: two new regions, two additional main quests, new item sets and weapons, and many new creature types which make adventuring in Ancaria even more dangerous.
SACRED Underworld - Ancaria is facing a threat far greater than ever before. The now familiar world continues to evolve, with existing SACRED players able to import their old characters into the Underworld.
  • Choose from eight heroic characters: Gladiator, Seraphim, Battlemage, Wood Elf, Vampiress, Daemon, and Dwarf.
  • Hundreds of unique weapons, armors and set items - collect artifacts and forge all-powerful weapons!
  • Learn Combat Arts, develop new skills, and customize devastating combo-attacks.

This was one of my favorite games series of all time, however, it will not start via steam. It locks up at "fonts" on the initial load. If nyone knows how to get past this, please inform me.

This is by far the best oldschool Hack&Slash RPG of all time. In my honest opnion, gameplay wise, it beats the old diablo 1 and 2 by a long shot. The world is huge, the enemies are many, the leveling and difficulity setting is epic and the classes are way more defined.

The story is... Just okay... But that is pretty much it. Do not even get me startet on the expantions storyline, because that is just wierd...

Best thing about this game has to be the replay value. You never really get tired of playing it and it is super addictive. I have spend countless hours in this game, and it is a beastly fun game for LAN parties, if you can get it to work tho. It requires some research and guide reading to make it work properly and you should disable your firewall entirely. You also need to create a LAN server, and there is a file that lets you do that in the game folder. Oh, and you need to switch some internet/LAN setting in the options menu as well!

Now for the bad stuff! Some people need to play this in windowed mode, and i would highly reccomend it for everyone, since the resolution is not realy fit for the big screen. It is also not a good idea to alt tab, since it tends to screw things up, and it has a tendence to crash once in a while, so save as often as possible.

The worst thing about the game, is that internet play is not something you can do anymore. Damned shame!

All in all, i would reccomend this game to all who likes a good Hack&Slash game!

This game is one of the large turning points when it comes of gaming in my youth. As a child I probably spent more than two hundreds of hours in this wonderful game - together with Pokémon, it's probably the biggest reason why I am now a huge fan of the RPG genre.
Seriously, lads - If you're liking old 2D-sprite drawn RPG games with a capturing story and decent and creative mechanismns, then you're not making a mistake picking this game up.
Only thing I regret is that the regular Steam version doesn't have the good ol' German voices and texts that made the whole atmosphere even more thrilling. Buit, then again, there are loads of community-made voice packs for me out there - and the ones that are reading this and don't speak German won't be affected anyway.
However, if you're able to understand German, please do consider installing at least the communuity German Voice pack, maybe even the text replacements.
It may very well be the nostalgia speaking from my heart, but I'd rate a solid 9/10. If you're into retro, that is.

So much time spent in this game in my childhood, when I didn't even know about stuff like Steam. Completed every difficulty on each character. Still best RPG I've ever played. Amazing quests & characters, bugs & easter eggs. Still worth playing in 2016.

One of my favorite Hack & Slash titles, ranked equally with Diablo. Played this game loads and loads back in time...

Robust combat, very nice equipement diversity, lots of classes, a HUGE open world to explore, with tons and tons of secrets...

The graphics look old, but the game itself is old :D Don't let that keep you away from this awesome game

I'll just say this, my steam profile is not even CLOSE to how much time I spent on this badass of a game. This game is lovely and you should try it, but since it's quite old it may be troublesome to run it on newer OS. Don't feel discouraged though! Try it, enjoy it and love it like I do! Huge map, 8 character classes, simple combat and hundreds, if not thousands of quests and secrets to explore, this all waits for you!

FOR THOSE HANGING AT THE LOADING SCREEN WHERE IT SAYS "TYPEMANAGER" AND STUFF IN THE RED BAR: GO INTO YOUR CONFIG.EXE IN SACRED FOLDER IN STEAM AND CHECK THE "32 BIT COLOR DEPTH" OPTION. SHOULD FIX NP.

IF YOU ARE HAVING LOW FPS PROBLEMS ON MODERN MACHINES, GO INTO YOUR SETTINGS FILE and change TO THESE VALUES:

Settings.cfg
------------------------
GFX_LIMIT128 : 1
GFX32 : 0
FULLSCREEN : 0
FSAA_FILTER : 0
------------------------

YES YOU WILL HAVE TO RUN IN WINDOWED, BUT YOU CAN JUST SET YOUR DESKTOP RESOLUTION TO 1024x768 TO GET THE GAME TO FILL YOUR SCREEN, IT IS HARDCODED INTO GAME AND YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT.

ONTO THE REVIEW....

Regardless of what people say, it reminds me of an *updated* Diablo 2.

One of the things I didn't like about D2 was the linearity of the game, here that is taken out in favor of exploration.

The combat is iffy. Once you get used to it, it's not bad. No worse than D2's, really.

Lotta customization, and the classes feel unique.

Quests, quests, and more quests! One thing that was kind of a drag in D2 was that each act only had a handful of quests.

And the loot? Plenty of it!

If you liked Diablo2, you will like this.

And for $2.49 on sale, you can't go wrong.

9/10 (minus 1 for having to do all that trouble shooting for it to work, but really, that's not the game's fault)

Sacred Gold fix for windows 8.1 64bit
Step 1- Go into the file location of Sacred Gold. Mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sacred Gold.
Step 2- Open config. exe
Step 3- Check 32 bit color, Filter Active (anti-alasing), and Video Comapatiblity Mode.
Step 4- click ok
Now play the game

If you bought the game while it was on sale and cant play it.

txnnok came up with the fix.

I used it and it worked on windows 8.1

I dont see why people are complaning the game is a classic just takes a little work to be able to play it.

Graphics - 4 / 5
The graphics may not offer super realistic lighting, shadows,
or even decent effects.. But it still looks clean,
and comes together very nicely.

Sound - 3/5
The quality of the sound & music in Sacred is quite horrible,
to say the least, it's not bad enough to be game breaking,
but it's certainly annoying.

Gameplay - 5 / 5
Sacred offers hundreds of quests scattered in a humongous world.
which you can explore with up to 8 different classes,
each class changing the beginning of the storyline campaign.

Multiplayer - 5 / 5 (LAN only since online servers are now put down)
While the online multiplayer was still alive, it was second to nothing.
The entire game is available as co-op/pvp with up to 16 players.

I give this game a 5 out of 5.
Because it's not always about shiny graphics and HD sound quality.
It's the gameplay that makes this the best open-world RPG ever made.
