Stacking is another rather unique game from Double Fine. It is essentially a puzzle game starring nothing but Russian stacking dolls where you try to solve problems by stacking into certain dolls and using their wacky special abilities. It sounds simple, but the levels are large and there's a lot of dolls to choose from, so it can be quite difficult to determine which dolls will work for a given situation. There are always multiple solutions and only one is required to progress through the story, but the game has a way of making you want to find them all. It would actually be quite frustrating if it weren't for the hint system, which provides 3 increasingly obvious hints (the last one actually tells you exactly how to solve it) for each puzzle solution.
The game is made in the style of a silent movie slathered with Double Fine's signature style, with all aspects of the game fitting together so well. Doll abilities range from farting to charging, punching, and even firing a gun and other dolls will react in ridiculous ways. They even look shocked when you stack into another doll, since you seem to be the only person with that ability. It even fun just watching the dolls react to you when you're going about your business solving puzzles.
As an additional note, this game is locked to 30 fps. It is the only game I've played that I feel has an actual reason to do so, given its silent movie style, but it still makes the game feel choppy and I would prefer being able to run it at a higher framerate.
So, Stacking is great fun. If you like any of Double Fine's other games or just want a silly fun game to play, Stacking is a great choice.
