I cant believe this game was made around 2007, many good games were made in this year, but why making this piece of crap Overlord?

The answer is - money.
No fun gameplay, plot and effort in it. Only ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cartoonish style and lots of goblins, who always die.
We playing as somekind of warlord, who fell from a rock and died many years ago. Some goblins (who served him before) decided to ressurect him (what kept them so long?).
Our "hero" is silent like ♥♥♥♥ing Gordon Freeman, maybe it will make him look badass? No. He can control those stupid goblins to kill sheeps and some town folk, for his own pleasure. Also he willingly accept everything elder goblin is saying, like a puppet.
Gameplay is annoying and slow, you move there because you dont know, no one will give a map, figure it out yourself dumbass. And of course you will fight monsters, elves and other ♥♥♥♥ around, with your rusty axe. Pfff

1/10

By the way, you can decorate your own castle with stupid curtains

I'll always love this game. One of my favorite of all time. I use to play it way back on the Xbox 360 before I got it on steam. Solid puzzles and hoard mechanic combat. Very Funny story, and solid characters. Gotta love a game where you can play as the bad guy too.

If I could give a meh instead of yes or no I would choose it. The game is well done in my opinion but very very very tedious. Its just pikmin with a gimick. Also some logic to me is flawed. Like the fact your supposed to be some powerful villain yet your minions en masse are stronger than you and so are many enemies. How the hell can no minions realize they can easily womp you? No sprint so if you have to get more minions because of a mess up its a long trek to a spawn point if there are none nearby so if your not an expert get ready for tedious back and forths constantly especially in certain maps. Minion ai sucks. Its touch and go on any of them but the browns. the browns are good but the others are always touch and go. A damn compass or map would help too since I had to spend 2 hours trying to remember the map for the first area since it all looks the same. Oh and get ready for a bunch of tedious grinding on life force to spawn minions. Also the minions are humorous......BUT GET OLD VERY GOD DAMN QUICK. The same 5 or so lines repeat more often than arrow in the knee or nazeem himself.

Letting your minions fight for you as you solve puzzles and beat enemies to unravel your history makes for an engaging game that mixes dark humor and questionable morality to great effect.

For some reason I never tire of sweeping my minions through a room to destroy everything, if only to see what they put on their heads.

This game is just fun. I like how quirky it is, I like that you play as some evil overlord, I like the unique mechanics. Overall, the game is really original and creative. It has a pretty decent story, some really good dark comedy, and looks really nice. So there you go, a list of stuff that this game is. My only real complaint is that sometimes the mechanics can get a little frustrating, trying to control your minions. The game design really is just excellent, I really recommend this one.

Some of it can be frustrating, just because games have moved on from those sort of things e.g. save locations, having to back track.
Not a bad game though, and the goblins get a chuckle from my kids :)

A very fun game if you are alright with semilinear gameplay - This is a port of the PS3 game, so some gameplay is a bit strange and some directions are misspoken, like 'Press the left thumbstick now!'*
Game will provide visual direction that is accurate.

To be honest, I think this game has aged well compared to some other titles. The game has little problems with Win 10, and is playable in fullscreen 16:9.

I really enjoyed this game; controlling hordes of minions to kill heroes, steal gold and cause havoc makes for a great game! Using a gamepad is better than keyboard and mouse as left thumbstick controls the Overlord's movement while right thumbstick controls the minions' movements, making the whole experience a lot easier to manage. Sacrifice your minions to create a mighty set of armour and a weapon, upgrade and cast 4 different spell types (basically firebolt, beserk, shield and fear), slaughter sheep and villagers to harvest souls and spend your vast fortunes to improve your tower - in short, awesome fun! *****

Very bad story and low-IQ humor combined with a really bad and linear game-play. I thought it'd be a good game after Dungeon Keeper but turned out to me real disappointing.

You are the Dark Lord Sauron Overlord and you have Gollum minions that kill and wreck everything on your command while saying things like "Yes master". You travel to the village of Bree Spree and rid it of the nasty little Hobbits "Halflings". After this you will travel more and more to gain more power.

8/10 would Lord of the Rings again

A game where you choose to spare lives or conquer all.

Any side you choose will end up as the same amount of fun.

A strategy game that DEFINITELY deserves more attention than it does now, even though it's made in 2007.

Gameplay = Arguably amazing.
Graphics = Not bad. C'mon, it was made in 2007. Give 'em a break.
Lore = Confusing at first, amazing second.

Only thing bad I really see is a few minor glitches whereas your minions get stuck in walls and you're unable to get them back. UNLESS you travel to a different place, they can't get back to you.

I would HIGHLY recommend this game. 10/10

A hidden gem in the plethora of Action-Adventures. While it has its fair share of flaws (minions occasionally spawning in areas they can't get out of, dumb enemy AI, cheap "difficulty" boost which only serves to make the game more tedious), there is too much to like to really dwell on the negatives, but you should be aware they are still there. The story isn't immensely deep but deep enough to thoroughly enjoy, music can be good at times but it is just okay overall despite always being fitting, the minions are a blast to watch when pillaging nearby homes, scenery, and sheep... Being able to condemn your enemies with a simple hand gesture really immerses you in the Overlord character, and the minions are so full of personality you could just rip them out of the game and squeeze them. Despite being ugly little creatures, they're awfully adorable.

That being said, I have played the game once as a good guy. Playing again as a massive jerk on Legendary difficulty (not something you should ever do unless you just want to say you did it) even after countless hours is more fun than the first time through. It has the charming replay value of a platformer along the lines of Spyro the Dragon.

tl;dr play this

(This review is copied from my Overlord Raising Hell review, which is the same game plus added missions)
(My playtime on this shows low, but I played the Raising Hell edition for 40 hours.)

Glee is the word that comes to mind when I think of this game. Two words would be "gleefully mischievous." Imps and goblins usually annoy me - like the sidekick in The Darkness II - but these little fellows manage to be endearing.
Anyway, this game has its tongue firmly pressed to its cheek, in a good way.

It parodies LOTR - except you are playing as pseudo-Sauron, sweeping your minions across halfling villages and elven forests with an evil grin on your face.

You (the Overlord) are slow and lumbering, but your minions - whom you can guide with an invisible hand or more precisely assign tasks to - are fast and fluid.

It's sort of open world - open enough to let you revisit previous (respawning) locations to replenish your gold and Souls.

Negatives: Lots of backtracking. No way to sprint or speed up your Overlord character. And no mini-map of any kind. These three problems are a big no-no in an open world game.

A pretty enjoyable action game where you command a bunch of goblins in order to cause chaos everywhere around. Decent humour, although dialogues are sometimes too cringeworthy and dumb. The gameplay itself is fun though. Audiovisuals are nice, story is terrible, gameplay doesn't prove any challenge, but it's fun nonetheless. I recommend getting it on a sale.

I really enjoyed Overlord. Anyone who has played and liked Nintendo's Pikmin series ought to give it a go!
Prior to playing Overlord 2 I thought I'd take some time to look over the things I liked... and the things I didn't. I only played through the game once and may give it another spin later to try out some of the things I missed out on in the first playthrough.

The game is quite puzzle-based but has its fair share of combat and RPG elements as well.

Pros:
  • Nice scenery.
  • Interesting boss fights.
  • Great puzzles.
  • Unlike in Pikmin, the protagonist is quite capable of defending himself.
  • Humourous dialogue.
  • It just feels nice to play as the villain.
  • "You choose all!" - I just love that quote
  • Replay value. There are certain choices you make that you may want to replay the game for just to make the opposite choices.

Cons:
  • Lack of a map interface. I frequently ended up getting lost or losing the odd minion or two.
  • Nowhere to review the controls. I took a break from the game, then came back not knowing how to toggle the different spells, so I ended up having to look it up online.
  • Ran out of use for gold. I feel it would be nice if I could use excess gold to purchase more minion lifeforce or to upgrade equipment, because once I had built the last equipment set, gold seemed to be useless to me.
  • Achievements would be nice.

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 :)
There's room for improvement but it's a neat game as it is.

This game can be a real pain if you don't have the patience to figure everything out for yourself. If you don't, then definitely have a guide ready. Otherwise, gameplay is great. Minions are much cooler and funnier than the Dispicible Me minions. I've probably had more fun controlling them than controlling the main character. :3 Graphically, it's good. I don't care much about graphics. I'm a little disappointed for the lack of a map (going back to what I said about requiring patience). Is it worth the money? Absolutely.

Well it's about time I made a review about this game. So let it begin.
Pro's
1. I love this game while yes it is a older game it's still worth playing
2. It like Pikmin... But violent!
3. The game gives you the option to ethier be completely evil, or a 'heroic' Overlord, or you could just do what ever you wanted and have the best of both worlds.
Con's
1. Some times it's not clear where to go, or what to do, but that's what guides are for.
2. Some times (not all of the time) getting more minions can get a bit annoying but it's not imposible, I'll admit at least one hour of my play time was getting more minions.

But what game is perfect? Answer: None. But you can certanly have fun with it. So yes I'd say try the game!

A wonderfully whimsical game that never got the acclaim that it deserved. Came out in 2007 but still holds up. Definitely challenging at times, but never frustratingly so, except for maybe the final boss. If you enjoy this then you will most likely enjoy Overlord 2, even though it wasn't as good as this one, it is still worth playing. I would reccomend getting the Raising Hell expansion with this, but don't attempt any of those missions until you finish the vanilla game.
