Neverwinter: Storm King's Thunder is Live!

Greetings, adventurers!

Storm King’s Thunder calls heroes to Icewind Dale to solve a deadly mystery and recover an ancient artifact of immense power: the famed ring of winter. The ring has been seized by the fierce frost giant Jarl Storvald, who is attempting to control its powers and use it to freeze the oceans, blanketing the world with snow and ice. Orcs, goblins, barbarians, trolls, and other monsters are gathering in the north, ready to pledge fealty to Jarl Storvald should he succeed. This of course is causing havoc in the northern settlements of Ten-Towns.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvSQL3qiBo

There are other reasons to venture into the cold. The frozen lands of the north, once the center of the ancient Ostorian Empire, is littered with relics from that long-forgotten time. Those Ostorian relics now lie in dangerous places. They are well worth the risk of acquiring, for they are infused with Voninblod, the ancient power of the giants of old.

This exciting expansion introduces a new campaign that has heroes adventuring in three new wilderness zones, Bryn Shander, Lonelywood and Cold Run, culminating in our most challenging dungeon yet, Fangbreaker Island.

In addition to the new content we’ve listening to you and have been working hard to make changes in Neverwinter, in particular this time around with Class Reviews for the Hunter Ranger, Scourge Warlock, and Guardian Fighter. We made quite a few changes before the Class Reviews went to the Preview server, and then had lots of back and forth discussions on the preview forums, making additional changes and bug fixes with the support and assistance of our awesome preview player base!

Here's a list of some of the major features:
Three new zones: Bryn Shander, Lonelywood, and Cold Run
Ostorian relics system
New Dungeon
Class Balance updates for three classes: Hunter Ranger, Guardian Fighter, and Scourge Warlock
Runic Lockbox

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to adventuring with you in the Storm King’s Thunder! I’ll be the one wearing a big scarf!

Storm King's Thunder Coming August 16

We’re proud to announce Neverwinter: Storm King’s Thunder is coming to PC on August 16! In just under one month, adventurers will be able to investigate the sudden return of giants to the Sword Coast in our tenth expansion, which coincides with Wizards of the Coast’s new adventure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB9jgID3_-c

In order to fight off these colossal invaders, adventurers must return to Icewind Dale and team up with characters from Dungeons & Dragons lore, including Catti-brie and Wulfgar, characters created by acclaimed author, R.A. Salvatore.

Storm King’s Thunder introduces three new adventure zones for high-leveled players where the story missions will take place – Bryn Shander, The Lonelywood and Cold Run. After completion of the new campaign, a new dungeon by the name of Fangbreaker Island will be available to delve into, offering a challenge unlike any other.

Our first step into the much-anticipated class balance arrives with this expansion where the Hunter Ranger, Scourge Warlock, Guardian Fighter and Great Weapon Fighter will undergo overhauls to make different paths more viable. These changes are currently on Preview if you’d like to check them out.

We have more information coming soon in our series of developer blogs leading up to August 16. Keep an eye out on our social channels and news page to stay up to date on all things Storm King’s Thunder.

Will you brave the storm?

First off, my play time is at least double what is shown "on record." I've been playing this game since before it was on Steam. Secondly, I am a huge fan of RA Salvatore's universe and characters.

Cons:
Unfortunately, I hear that Cryptic is a horrible company to work for becuase I briefly had a dream to one day work for them doing whatever, it didn't matter. Anyway, it appears that this bad work environment comes across while playing. The game is pretty glitchy, some main NPC's voices don't exist randomly, quests don't really let you finish them ever or the quest markers don't work or you have to re-do the quest after restarting. Like all RPG's you wake up on a beach after a shipwreck, find your lame armor and weapon and start adventuring. The whole, go here, talk to this person, kill the monsters, find the treasure, burn the stuff and so on. The whole load as you play thing is pretty lame too because for minutes you could play in a chrome universe with no textures until you... well I don't know, the textures and effects just load eventually. Items are expensive to buy with real money. The game looks like it was made 3-5 years ago...because it was...

Pros:
It's a free game. You can beat all the quests and the entire story without paying a dime. You can have fun playing PVP without paying a dime! You just need to know how to build your character and utilize astral diamonds and enchantments to get some good equipment from the auction house. There is a ton of free content and the game is actively being updated and improved. The game is much less grindy than other MMOs. You level up really fast and just by playing the game as it was inteded. IFf you need something to play with your entry level gamer or cheap friends or kid brother or wife or whatever. It's really fun to adventure around in a group and kill a bunch of stuff together. The characters are more customizable than many games and the item diversity and enchanting system is pretty easy to understand and fun. RA SALVATORE UNIVERSE. Anyone that gives this a bad rating obviously isn't a Drizzt fan. It's awesome to be able to MMO around in universe. I can be dual weilding Drow Rogue with a freaking panther! YES!!! Overall, 7.5/10. Because of universe and lore and constant new content, 11/10.

Best mmo that i have played for a while. Everyone talking about p2w most of them heard abot this from other people. I'm absolutely addicted to this game right now, quests and story line here is one of the best in mmo history. I have so much fun from combat, questing and looking for all lore items that i don't want too level up, and actually asked gms once to block my exp income. You definetely can achieve alot and much faster in this game with money, but you also can achieve same without spending real money, all you need is brain and ability to think.
Don't listen too people who dont even come close to lvl 70 end talk about p2w, just try this game. Try too feel it, don't rush to max level, don't pick op but borring class, just think with your heart and you will love this game.

DISCLAIMER: Played this game off of steam for about a year with two max level characters, both of which have a gearscore of 10,000+ so you can disregard the 'time played' Steam reports.

Garbage game from a garbage company. Cryptic (Perfect World Entertainment) is well known for releasing a slew of subpar mmos that are all cash grabs, immediate mmos come to mind are Champions Online, Star Trek Online, and of course Neverwinter, all of which have the majority of their content HEAVILY blocked by paywalls.

Cryptic (Perfect World Entertainment) is also a notoriously bad company with terrible business practices, seriously. Do a quick google search of their name or mmos and you will see widely spread player/customer discontent and stories of PWE outright ignoring even paying customers sometimes, refusing to ban trolls, and handling their business with zero strategy for retention because they do not CARE about customer retention. They only care about milking money out of you for as long as you will put up with their abusive one-sided relationship and then as soon as you try to talk back? They just ignore you.

Most unhelpful, unprofessional, and toxic company. Maybe even worse than SWG-era Sony Online Entertainment.

Avoid this game and all games by Cryptic or Perfect World Entertainment. It will save you a headache.

Pay to win.

The devs are greedy. The price it costs for max level items like mythic artifacts is quite funny. Maybe a few thousand dollars to get your char near max or more, it has been a while since I played so I'm not sure how much it is now, but everytime lots of players get maxed they increase the gear further to squeeze more money out of people.

I loved this game, the best combat in any MMO I have tried but after all the hours I have put into this game I can be 1 shot by other players because of p2w and in pve the paying players can clear content so much easier. I have played nearly 1900 hours and not even close to being maxed.

You will need to spend money to buy a mount, have fun using the slow one you get for free, it will make most content terrible. You will need to pay for inventory slots since items have soul bound, shared bound and about 4 other types even if it's all the same item they won't stack. A good way for the devs to make people need to spend money on extra slots.

If your rich or don't mind never getting stronger no matter how long you play then you might like this game, otherwise I really wouldn't reccomend it.

What can I say, this game used to be good, until they made almost everything pay to win, I did play this game for more then 2 years and had to quit because a non-casher like me couldn't compete with millionaires in this game anymore, end game is now hard, PvP is all about money, if you don't want to spend money don't bother starting to play this game. I don't recommand it at all!

I used to LOVE Neverwinter, played it for 8+ hours a day for almost a year (I played most of my time not through Steam, if you're wondering why the numbers don't add up. After getting a few characters to max level, I find the game unenjoyable for several reasons. However, let me not be entirely biased to the negative aspects of the game, I shall list some pros too, if I can think of any that is...

PROS:
+Fun I guess, decent lasting appeal.
+Cool animations, mechanics, and cinematics in my opinion.
+Many ways to play your character.
+Many dungeons, plus community made instances that make end game less dissatisfying, and it welcomes harder or easier instances than what is provided in the actual game.

If I can think of more, I'll be sure to mention it.

CONS:
-Game can be really laggy if you don't have a high-end PC, poor optimization.
-Quests, quests, quests.. Daily quests, instance quests, collecting quests, I'm tired of hearing the word quest.
-Most of the dungeons provided are WAY too easy and drop absolutely rubbish gear.
-Grindfest up to max level, I got bored and took several hiatuses while leveling my first and second characters.
-You thought the grindfest was over at max level? Think again! Time to grind for good gear while getting overloaded with gear that's so garbage, it's comparable to Trump's campaign.
-The community is honestly toxic. There's a lot of spammers, scammers, beggars, and elitists who look down on everyone else. The Elitists are the worst. I can't count the number of times I had to leave a dungeon because my gear wasn't to their standards. Screw you kids.

And the biggest con of all, the one EVERY other review mentions...

You ready?

Me neither.

PAY TO WIN BABY!
You like green stuff in your wallet? Don't play this game.
If you like this game, say goodbye to that green stuff!

This game evolved from a sheer grindfest to who can waste the most money on an online video game. Fits in with the elitists. Allow me to simulate a conversation.

1: "Hey man! I just spent $200 on the game!"
2: "No way dude! I just finished farming for 8 hours and got nothing!"
1: "Man that's unfortunate! Good news for me though, I just spent another $200 and tricked out my first character! I'm so happy!"
2: "You wasted that much on the game?"
1: "Your gear sucks, don't talk to me pleb."

^Neverwinter in a nutshell.

Don't play this game, it's terrible now. Cryptic put this game in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in recent months/years by adding an insane paywall to even be able to play with other people, unless you're lucky and wait for a few hours.. or days.. Stick to World of Warcraft, Rift, or something along those lines.

In the 2 or 3 years I've spent on and off playing this game, I can honestly tell you it's one of the best mmo rpg games I've played. I love the gameplay, and it's got a lot of content to satisfy a variety of playstyles. That being said, I don't recommend this game because it has been lagging on me since I started playing, and it's especiay bad in common areas (I'm sure it's because I play on a not-so-decent system, but I don't care-I'm complaining anyway). Another reason is that the community for this game in particular is ♥♥♥♥ing garbage and it's one of the reasons I'd rather just play a single player game. Another thing I hated most in this game is that it's largely a play to win game. Now, I'll spend a couple dollars on a game I really like, but I'm as cheap as the next person, and I don't want to spend hundreds on any game--it's just not worth it. So why not just get rid of the paying aspect altogether? Anyway, since this game only has a few good things about it, I'd not recommend this to anyone, unless they're willing to shill out thousands of dollars to look like an elitist ♥♥♥♥♥♥. To me, that's just short of an overall disappointing game.

It's a huge cash grab. It's not p2w but it's pretty close, you can play for free and have some fun but you'll never be great for free anymore. They keep taking stuff and nerfing stuff trying to combat bot farmers but here's the thing, those farmers aren't negatively affecting players, the changes that they make to combat the bots do negatively affect the real players. They have made it so much harder for the new players to ever get anything that I'd never recommend this game. If I never played again it'd take a new player 5000 hours and a couple of thousand dollars to attain the things that I've gotten in my thousand hours. It has great things about it and if they made it a subscription game and stopped all the stupid nerfing then it'd probably be awesome. At this point I'd recommend Rift or ESO before this even though they are also heavy cash grabs.. I guess the days of great subscription mmo's are gone in favor of the cash shop..

Really enjoying the experience so far (level 30). Combat system is great, visually its decent the world has enough events going on to keep things interesting. Ive done three dungeons so far, Que times have been excelent. Two were instantanaous the other was a 10 second wait. Dungeons aside, it plays a lot like a single player RPG. Cant comment on end game as i am a way off but can definatly recomend the leveling experience. I may udate this review upon reaching max level.

I've played Neverwinter for a few years now and and a D&D and Forgotten Realms fan. This isn't anything like Neverwinter Nights depite being called the successor to that game. Neverwinter Nights was a true RP experience if you played on the player made permanent worlds and this game is a standard MMO. I do enjoy it for what it is. I like the crafting system and you can still levle up your characters without actually questing if you are high enough level to pray to your diety. It's improving all the time and is very solo friendly.

The big negative in this game is the cost of the DLC. I don'y ever pay for in game currency and you can play this game without it but it does restrict you. It takes an age to farm enough crystals to convert to Zen which is what you need to buy things. What does interest me in the market is the packs that allow you to play other races but the cost is extortionate. To but a pack that includes new race it's the equivalent of £40. If you played half a day everyday for weeks you might just be able to make just enough to afford that. They really need to lower the cost of the DLC as it's the one thing that puts me off the game and I'm not alone.

Look, its free. Can you make a game for free? No. What are MMOs good at? Selling Cosmetics (Appearance), Consumables (Like XP Boosts), and other junk that just does not feel worth buying. If I made the game I would have sold dlc in their expansions. However, they seemed like they gave you expansions for free, with high probability of grinding. I was not a fan, but this game looked huge. If you play other MMOs, then good for you, I couldn't play more than 2 MMOs. This was not one I spent money on so it had to get off my hardrive. However, it was fun when I was playing. I prefer the old Neverwinter Nights games however.
