Neverwinter: Storm King's Thunder is Live!

Greetings, adventurers!

Storm King’s Thunder calls heroes to Icewind Dale to solve a deadly mystery and recover an ancient artifact of immense power: the famed ring of winter. The ring has been seized by the fierce frost giant Jarl Storvald, who is attempting to control its powers and use it to freeze the oceans, blanketing the world with snow and ice. Orcs, goblins, barbarians, trolls, and other monsters are gathering in the north, ready to pledge fealty to Jarl Storvald should he succeed. This of course is causing havoc in the northern settlements of Ten-Towns.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvSQL3qiBo

There are other reasons to venture into the cold. The frozen lands of the north, once the center of the ancient Ostorian Empire, is littered with relics from that long-forgotten time. Those Ostorian relics now lie in dangerous places. They are well worth the risk of acquiring, for they are infused with Voninblod, the ancient power of the giants of old.

This exciting expansion introduces a new campaign that has heroes adventuring in three new wilderness zones, Bryn Shander, Lonelywood and Cold Run, culminating in our most challenging dungeon yet, Fangbreaker Island.

In addition to the new content we’ve listening to you and have been working hard to make changes in Neverwinter, in particular this time around with Class Reviews for the Hunter Ranger, Scourge Warlock, and Guardian Fighter. We made quite a few changes before the Class Reviews went to the Preview server, and then had lots of back and forth discussions on the preview forums, making additional changes and bug fixes with the support and assistance of our awesome preview player base!

Here's a list of some of the major features:
Three new zones: Bryn Shander, Lonelywood, and Cold Run
Ostorian relics system
New Dungeon
Class Balance updates for three classes: Hunter Ranger, Guardian Fighter, and Scourge Warlock
Runic Lockbox

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to adventuring with you in the Storm King’s Thunder! I’ll be the one wearing a big scarf!

Storm King's Thunder Coming August 16

We’re proud to announce Neverwinter: Storm King’s Thunder is coming to PC on August 16! In just under one month, adventurers will be able to investigate the sudden return of giants to the Sword Coast in our tenth expansion, which coincides with Wizards of the Coast’s new adventure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB9jgID3_-c

In order to fight off these colossal invaders, adventurers must return to Icewind Dale and team up with characters from Dungeons & Dragons lore, including Catti-brie and Wulfgar, characters created by acclaimed author, R.A. Salvatore.

Storm King’s Thunder introduces three new adventure zones for high-leveled players where the story missions will take place – Bryn Shander, The Lonelywood and Cold Run. After completion of the new campaign, a new dungeon by the name of Fangbreaker Island will be available to delve into, offering a challenge unlike any other.

Our first step into the much-anticipated class balance arrives with this expansion where the Hunter Ranger, Scourge Warlock, Guardian Fighter and Great Weapon Fighter will undergo overhauls to make different paths more viable. These changes are currently on Preview if you’d like to check them out.

We have more information coming soon in our series of developer blogs leading up to August 16. Keep an eye out on our social channels and news page to stay up to date on all things Storm King’s Thunder.

Will you brave the storm?

This game used to be good but now its literally pay hundreds to be good or spend an enternity (more or less impossible) to earn the stuff yourself. I don't think it will ever change so don't bother with this game.

Played it for hours, and hours, and hours... right from Beta. But discontinued. Tried again after like 2 year break, and 2 days was the max I could go. All fun gone. It is a repetetive grinding of the same location, same boss, same everything for hours n hours, day after day. And all this... for literally nothing, cos if you want something really epic, you still have to shell out real money.

As long as you aren't looking to play "seriously" then it's pretty fun.

If you want to put some effort into it and progress your character as far as you can go then you will have to put some money down.

There are other MMO's on the market that will cost you far less. It's basically your typical cash grab free to play game.

There is no middle ground, you can either play for fun and accept your character will always be behind or you can start putting money down to stay competitive.

I can't recommend it because of the shift towards pay to win. It's a shame, this game had so much potential when it launched and now, this.

Having played this game over the years, for a long time, I have seen it fall in quality pretty hard. At first it was ok, challenging, but not impossible to gear up your character. But that is now in the past and sadly it is impossible.

This game has 2 sides to it,

First the levels 1-69, and then the endgame after 70. Here is the deal, cryptic has gutted the endgame so much, that it is not free to play at all. The whole point of the endgame is to gear up your character, and be a badass in dungeons. But the only way to do that is earn some AD (Astral diamonds) by doing specfic quests. This has been nerfed, over and over and over. They have removed the ability earn it so much, that if i was to start fresh it would take years of constant playing to get everything i need in the game to be competive and win. Now say i wanted to buy everything with real cash. Well then to fully gear up your charater, it would cost you over 1,000 dollars. It is a joke, and sadly even after all these years, paying over 100, i'm still not even close to bing best in class. The endgame is dead, don't waste your time with it. I was lucky to play back in the day, but now forget it. Because of this, there is a real gap between players who play for free and players who pay. There is no balancing to be had, thus PVP is completly broken and croweded by geared guild players vs the unlucky few who are first trying to play pvp. IT is a broken system.

levels 1-69 was the best part of this free to play experience. It is the part of the game where you level your character, and not your gear. The bots have taken it over. As stated above, cryptic has taken steps to limit AD gains, and one of the reasons for this was to combat bots from earning AD. Like life, bots find a way. The new thing is they are crowding dungeons, PVPs, and skirmish queues. It is now comon when queuing up in the lower levels, to be placed in a game populated entirally by bots. It is pretty funny to see them robotically run around.

Now if you want to play the main story quests, go ahead. Those are still there and will never be ruined. But by god don't spend a dime on this game. It is No longer worth any money. The game is going to be dead soon at this rate.

It is a pay 2 win game now, make no mistake about it.

I heard you could played as a Dragonborn in Neverwinter, so I gave this game a chance, had the client to download important game files for a few hours, got into the game character select screen, and was met with huge disappointment. The race is behind a paywall of $75. Who in their right mind would pay that much simply for JUST DLC CONTENT? Perfect World Entertainment is overcharging just for a few goodies when I would just be happy to play a Dragonborn for $9.99 or free. Totally not worth it, I would stick away from this one.

Really fun with friends, has to be my most mermorable MMO I played, alot of different classes and races, not as big of an open world as ArchAge, but still has a kicking community and alot of fun dungeons to explore!

The business model of this game is terrible, this game is official D&D and for that reason it should be high quality, but this game's money system aswell as many other things like leveling in the same start area and crafting are appauling.
Let me say that I liked playing this game about a year and a half ago but what they have done to it now makes it not worth the bother.
this game should of had a better publisher.

Was a great game until the began to "combat botters" as they say. Absolutely ruined this game with that lame excuse. NOTHING BUT A CASH GRAB NOW. My wife who had never played an MMO before this is the only reason I still play. She loves playing an MMO now but doesn't want to try any, more professionally made games. Stick with what she knows... I just wanna see this company go bankrupt as I feel they are stealing my soul with each and every "daily" quest I complete.

it is sad to say that after all those days i uninstalled, its still a pay to win.i came across level 65 or 66 and befriended a girl in that open world where we both fought monsters together but sadly life was tough for me cause i was too poor in that game to buy anything yet she gave me hope :') but one day i had enough and took my hands off this game cause everyone had a shining armor and sword and there i was with nothing but a sword that dealt 25% damage to a high level boss.so i went to a smith so he can sell me his finest sword that could cut through a dragon's a.s.s but he led me straight to my steam wallet asking me for real money and alas i had enough.so i exit the game and deleted it from my library forever.i wonder how my female friend is doing cause i promised her i'd repay her for killing all those bosses for me once i become stronger in that game.be safe me princess <3 yer' prince still thinks about you.

I can't recommend a game if I can't get to it to play. Neverwinter is one of only two PC games on Steam so far with which I never got past the launcher to the actual game, in this case because I could never get it to acknowledge that the account I made exists.

I've recently tried both a very old MMO and a very new one which both worked fine, so there's not a general issue with me and MMOs' logins. Given the tone of Neverwinter's recent reviews from people who apparently COULD get ingame, I think I'll just go play something else.

So, I have only been playing a few hours and it has already had a critical crash twice. Both times right in the middle of a battle. First time, I logged back in and my character was dead. Second time...well that is the time I decided to never play again.

In all seriousness, the two crashes just pushed me over the edge. I hate the free-to-play ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t. They say it is free, but in reality, you have to pay to get anything good. Example...when first creating my character, I had the option to add new character races, which were pretty interesting, and I wanted to try them. Shortly after, I found out I was going to have to spend upwards of $50 (USD)...for EACH. The stuff people were saying about needing to spend $10k to get the good stuff...they likely are not exaggerating.

No matter. I prefer Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Sword Coast Legends gameplay to this. In case any developers are listening--make more games like those. I actually spend money on those games.

Very generic dungeons & dragons online rpg game, but it does everything right. The combat is extremly satisfying and the game really gives you that feel of doing all kinds of things to perfect and make the most powerful character. However, the game is still casual enough to not mind all the details. Plus it's completly free to to play and not pay to win. Love playing this game in my down time and thinking about what I'm going to do next the next time I login.
