“Remedy's done a great job of mixing elements of written work, television, and video games to create an experience full of scares, laughs, and thrills that's just as fun to play as it is to watch.”

About This Game

When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.

Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls.

With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.

Enhanced for the PC

  • Includes Alan Wake Special Episodes “The Signal” and “The Writer”

Not good. Awkward controls. Really dumb combat mechanics. Super cheezy plot development.

When I think of the great 360 Exclusives Alan Wake definitely comes to mind just as much as Gears of War and Halo 3 do.
Alan Wake is great for people who love a progressing story that doesnt give you everything right away.
This game is not for those who enjoy run and gun, fast paced shooters just to skip cutscenes. The controls take some time
to get used to and in the begining can turn some away. If you want a great HP Lovecraft,S.King style story
definitely give this game a shot and if your into Poets of the Fall they have a Cameo appearance as another band so it makes this game just that much better

Alan Wake™ takes place in a Small Town™ which him and his wife drove to in their Lincoln™ MKZ, only using choice Energizer™ brand batteries to bring him back from the darkness. Make sure you get lots of Energizer™ brand batteries so it doesn't go dark! They burn out really quick which gives you an excuse to pick up more Energizer™ brand batteries. Who cares what brand the flashlight is? Doesn't matter as long as it takes Energizer™ brand batteries

I bought this game three years ago and I finally got around to playing it. Man am I satisfied! This game is "survival horror" but I would rather put it in as an action thriller. The game play is tense but when you get the hang of it it gets pretty simple. It's fun, but towards the end the combat felt a bit stale- but for the most part it was very fun. The environment graphics look very realistic. The night and day sequences both feel very real and are beautiful to look at. The character models seem to me a bit dated- but the character themselves are very well written as well as the overall story. From the very beginning the story gripped me and I couldn't put the game down until I finished it! This game truly felt like playing a great t.v show while reading a Stephen King Novel. I highly recommend this game to anyone!

Great game with nice artistic style.
Story is well presented with a dense atmosphere.
The gameplay is rather simple but manages to entertain throughout the length of the game.

Alan Wake is a great psychological thriller. The writing and the story are great and the atmosphere is superb. Voice acting and audio in general are excellent as well.

Unfortunately, the gameplay itself is not quite as inspired. Using light in combat to break through enemy defences is innovative enough. Too bad there are only a few enemy types in the game and the combat gets repetitive awfully quickly.

Alan Wake is no action hero. He can shoot with basic guns, but he's not particularly athletic and even a short run will exhaust him. This would be annoying in a more action-oriented game, but in Alan Wake these restrictions work well with the theme.

The graphics hold up quite well, even if the game is several years old now. However, some of the textures are extremely low resolution, and the poor quality of the prerendered cutscenes is quite jarring compared to the rest of the game.

Overall I found Alan Wake quite an enjoyable experience. The strong writing and stellar atmosphere make up for the somewhat weak gameplay. I played through the the main game and the two special episodes on normal.

The good:
- Great atmosphere
- High quality voice acting
- Innovative use of light as a weapon

The bad:
- There's only a few enemy types and combat gets repetitive quickly
- Facial animations often look extremely wonky
- Car physics are terrible

The ugly:
- Poor quality of the prerendered cutscenes

[Heck Yes, worth the price] Alan Wake, the story of a writer looking for his missing wife, surrounded by the darkness of the night, the mist and the unfortunate possessed craving for the wandering man's blood.

-This game completely NAILS ITS ATMOSPHERE, it's dark, not supposed to be scary, but keeps you on edge, expecting the next ennemies hiding among the shadows.
-The gameplay is repetitive, yet like another one of Remedy's games, Max Payne, it is very well mastered and gets kind of addictive while assisted by a great story.
-The writing is quite great, with the main character narrating most of the events (like in Max Payne) ,a good amount of surprises, and great characters that you'll remember. (Barry !)

Remedy did a great job with this one, that's why it deserves to be bought at full price. THOU SHALL BUY IT. è_é

One of the best psychological thrillers ever made. The protagonist is writer, surrounded by mystical and scaring events.

Good features

  • Suspense atmosphere
  • Exciting story
  • Dark and intriguing ambiance
  • Unusual appearance in the best Stephen King's traditions
  • Interesting DLC

I recommend it for all, but remember: when you are inside the writer's nightmare, only light, coffee and manuscript may save you.

This is probably one of the better console ports I've played. Playing on a mouse and keyboard make this game alittle too easy though so I'd recommend cranking up the difficulty to hard.

Alan Wake is a third person surival horror-esque game in the same vein of Resident Evil, however focusing more on story telling than engrossing gameplay or rpg like elements. Essentially you are a writer, Alan Wake, who takes a retreat to Bright Falls, a secluded retreat town, in order to find inspiration for your next work though seemingly becomes entrapped by a supernatural force that can be only described readily as The Dark. The gameplay revolves around you traversing around Bright Falls encovering the mystery, saving your girlfriend, and surviving against the force that seems to haunt you.

Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a story driven exprience, as while the gameplay is engaging it is incredibly repetitive and becomes my least favorite part of the game quickly.

Not if the game needed any more recommendation, but with all the thrill it gave me, I feel that I owe it one.

After spending (way too?) many hours playing pc games, you realise that only a couple of them truly make their mark and stay with you for good. The story of Alan Wake is one of them for me. I remember hard times getting up, being late to work or sleepy all day because I sat down the night before to play a bit and I just couldn't get up without seeing what is to come next! Sam Lake is a genius at storytelling (same guy who had you pinned to your chair just to see how Max Payne handles the twisted plot in 2001). As a true milestone in the horror/thriller genre, Alan Wake is a must. It has a pretty decent price nowdays when on sale. Absolutelly worth every penny.

Very good game, it is about a man who fight shadow creature armed with a flashlight and a pistol/rifle. You need to use a flashlight to remove armor from the shadowcreatures and weapons to finnish them off. The game Was satisfying and quite a big challange. The story is alright, i kept getting stuck during the game and having to go to youtube to find out how to get past certain points. but overall it was a game i would reccomend to people who like good single player games. ++

I played Alan Wake when it was released in 2010 on Xbox 360, I marathoned it, playing for entire days. Then when it was released on PC in 2012 I played through the DLC missions. Now that I upgraded to a 1440p monitor in 2016, I'm playing through the main game again. For a Direct X 10 game it's visually stunning, I love the steven kingesque story. Originally Alan Wake was going to be released on PC in 2010, I think it's annoying Microsoft made it an Xbox 360 exclusive for two years, but that version was pretty good too. If it takes an extra two years to polish the game I think they should, Alan Wake is one of the best games I've ever played.
