“Remedy's done a great job of mixing elements of written work, television, and video games to create an experience full of scares, laughs, and thrills that's just as fun to play as it is to watch.”

About This Game

When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.

Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls.

With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.

Enhanced for the PC

  • Includes Alan Wake Special Episodes “The Signal” and “The Writer”
  • Experience Alan Wake’s Pacific Northwest in higher resolutions and higher fidelity than the Xbox360 version.
  • Fully configurable mouse and keyboard support, or if you prefer to play with the Microsoft gamepad connected to your PC, you can do that too!
  • Lots of customizable graphics settings and support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios!

Quite the story but I must confess I played it on easy and still died along the way because I don't react fast enough to the scenarios, pretty fun none the less.

Possibly the best game Remedy have ever made, play it on hard for the real experience. The dense plot, the atmosphere, the engaging gameplay and the fantastic soundtrack all come together to make this something you'll remember for years to come. American Nightmare is good for afters when you've completed the original game and its DLC, and I'm confident you'll be in the mood for more Alan when you reach that point.

With mounting pressure from his publishers and fans, a best-selling author suffering from writers block escapes with his wife to the small town of Bright Falls, Washington in search of peace and solitude. Instead, he is pulled into a twisted and dark nightmare when his wife mysteriously disappears. As the story plays out he finds himself battling himself as much as he is the dark enemies who appear around him, and the question never goes away: is it reality or is Alan Wake loosing his mind?

PROS:
  • The story is immersive, well written and excellently narrated
  • Cool TV show like episodes give it a unique feel
  • Music/SFX/voicovers are generally well done, play into the atmosphere
  • Neat light/dark action combat idea
  • Well developed town/characters (feels like out of a novel)
  • Some decent logic puzzles scattered about
CONS:
  • Story drags a bit too long, gets out-of-hand
  • Combat becomes too much of a focus later on (jumps between story, action piece, story, etc.)
  • Control is a bit limiting/loose
  • Lose weapons, items in between some sections of story
  • Sometimes vague waypoints

Overall, if the game is on sale I would highly recommend it. $30 (as it is when I write this) is a bit too much for a 6 year old game. That being said, it's generally a fun ride worth taking.

This game has easily become my Nemesis. If you want to spend a couple of nights stuck between frustration and anxiety this will do fine. Pretty much everything is good about this game, but personally I hated it. That is just because I do not voluntarily opt in to my worst nightmares. It's gotten too hard to overcome frustration just to find even more crazed axe murderers behind the next tree. I'd rather just stay where I am and die like a wimp. If you find human remains somewhere in those woods, they're probably mine. Then again, it may all just be in my head and nothing of this really happened. On this note I shall pass judgment because I know how many people really enjoy this game, which I will never really understand.

Hold this thought.
I really do have to make a recommendation.
This sucks.

Let's say if you do enjoy being chased to death in the woods at night and that is the reason why you visited the store page for this game then go do it. If any of the above said sounds like it could come from you then don't.

Sorry, I can't.
I just hate you too much, Alan.

the good

-controls are ok. you can jump but there is no (edge holding and climbing) mechanism.
-enough ammo / battery supplies.(for easy diff. at least)
-the story is good and intresting. (up to a certain chapter)
-graphics are ok for a 2010 game.
-scary.
-good written game, and good voice acting.

the bad

-same monsters.

-Alan is a smoker, he cant run for a few meters before having Breathing problems. and what makes iit worse is he will bendover and hold his knees trying to breath and point the flash light toward the floor. there are monsters infort of you you sob.

-now i am gonna fight cars and huge objects with a flsh light ? that need more then few seconds to kill witht that flash light ? multiple ! not one ? and you gonna throw some human monsters at me and some birds at the same time ?? wow who comes up with this?.

-starting chapter 6 the game takes a nose dive in story. and spikes in difficulty.
specially while crossing the bridge on foot which is too frustrating. its like someone wants to annoy you and kill you of the game or make you hate the game in purpose.

the game is fun. but is filled with these frustrating moments where you wanna break something.
and you remember that you chosed Easy Diffeculty.

Alan Wake
Psychological thriller with a view of a third person. The main character is a production of Alan Wake creator of great novels, which for several years without being able to write a good book. His wife decides to take him on vacation to the town of Bright Falls. However, his wife disappears under mysterious circumstances, and our hero decides to find her. The game is about finding fragments of books thanks to them we will know more about the storyline. During the trip you will come across various characters with whom we will be able to talk but also to opponents, possessed by darkness people who were sent to destroy us. The fight against them is to continue shining a flashlight on their bodies to weaken them and to their finish we will have at our disposal several types of weapons. The game offers a nice world to explore, but it is linear and we will move on foot or by car. The biggest advantage of the game is pretty visuals. Graphically looks great, play of light in this title is amazing, giving the game the climate and anxiety, pleasant sound effects and background music are a huge asset to this production. Personally, I had a lot of fun while playing this game and I finished a couple of times and I'm definitely able to recommend this game.

Having played this game now 5 times, I can honestly say that even though its aged a bit, it remains one of my top 10 best games of all time. An awesome atmosphere and scenery fuelled by an even more awesome story, this game in my opinion will forever remain great. I usually replay a game until I've completed each mode of difficulty, but this game made me want to replay nightmare mode over and over.

10/10 - will play another 5 times.

Become a writer they said, it will be safe they said.

I ran around in the dark, looking for my missing wife, losing grip on my reality one manuscript page at a time.

Came across a multitude of characters with ambiguous moral orientations and psychiatric health levels.

Decided to use the most unreliable brand of batteries possible.

Picked a fight with evil itself.

Systematically spiraled into increasing darkness and insanity.

94 Thermoses/10: Would run around frantically looking for more batteries again.

I really liked this game! Good and weird story, I bit I found strange but the graphics was so beautiful. :) I really liked it, but some part was a bit ahh c'mon u can't do that, and they kill u. I found a bit stupid in the city ( village or what ) in the woods, they always had gun or something which can help us to survive the dark side attack. I found that a bit weird. But I really liked the story, but as I said same part of the game I didn't was boring, or overdriven. But i give a yes, because I really enjoyed the game, and also that ending was amazing! :) [No spoiler!]:) Hope they going to make Alan Wake 2. Then definitly I buy that game! :) Thanks!

Alan Wake is a horror masterpiece. You've got inventive controls, a compelling story, interesting characters, and pacing that is absolutely to die for. It's really just a gem, that is a must play if you value story and pacing as much as good graphics and responsive controls. Whether you're a fan of horror or not, this game is fantastic. Highly reccommend.
