Reviews

“So when I say Cthulhu Saves The World is already one of my favourite games of 2011 you can be sure I've not been swayed by its astonishingly precise pastiche of early 1990s JRPG cliches, strident synth music, chunky menus and all. It's simply a really clever, hugely enjoyable game, and it's as much honest tribute as cheeky spoof.”
Eurogamer
“It's rare to find a game that is both entertaining and genuinely funny, and so far Cthulhu Saves the World is both.”

Great game! Funny dialogue and interesting story. Some of the caves are a bit of a maze but you will get to slay countless enemies. The combat system is very different from what you see today but really has that great turnbased style!

a nice old-school RPG. funny and based on the writing of H.P. Lovecraft, 2 things you thought you'd never hear together. i love that it is intentionally made to look like my favorite olf RPGs.
if you want true old-school RPG video game experiencem this game is perfect, if you want a new RPG with good graphics and the most convoluted plot ever...you'll hate it.

for what this game [up front] says it is..it truly delivers. LOVE it!...sadly playing Sins/Solar Empir:Rebellion with friends has eaten all my play time >_<

This game is really funny and interesting. Funny because in chatbox appears "Press SHIFT to sprint" and Cthulhu says " Haha you gace me this option and I will end this game two times faster and I will even have refund!". Interesting because not so beautiful graphic which fits perfectly in games like this and very good story line. I would say something about the ending but I won't spoil. Play it to see the ending.

First off, let me tell you of the pleasure of walking under bridges. It is the tops, the bees knees, the cat's meow, etc., etc., and so forth, and so on. Second, there is nothing better than driving your enemies insane as you slaughter them like the pathetic mortals they are! Mwahaha. Is that enough? No. How about with necromancy? Or dragon's fire? Or a senile old man? Hot goth girls? Hot fish girls? Oh yeah, I know you like that sort of thing. How about poking things with a sword? A Sharp sword, or an alien? Aww, just play the game!

This game is great so far and how the way it works. The story and challenges are very hard (as any game in the dark sould series,) but there is a lot of bugs that need to be fixed and some mechanics in some wepons. I love all the gaames in the series and want to play more games like this. Dark souls III is for me, the best one in this series because of the way it works and how much work was put into this one. recommend to anyone with good luck for no bugs.

A quaint and enjoyable game with a couple of hang ups.

This game is worth its price point. I believe even if that $3 was for this game alone it might be worth it. It has witty dialogue for the most part and does not attempt to over stay its welcome with the very basic and slightly unenticing story that it has.

Overall this game is a breeze and will be fairly enjoyable if slightly repetative.

Pros: Witty Dialogue
Alot of characters to choose from
Fairly short RPG

Cons: Dungeons are repetative
Fights are also very rinse repeat and due to the frontal view of fighting it can become very boring as the animations for the players enjoyment are minimal.

Ultimately its cheap and enjoyable I would put it at a 6/10 for someone who knows nothing of Love Craft and 6.5/10 for someone who will get more of the jokes.

The gameplay is basic stuff. Plays out like any other oldschool RPG. What seperates it from the rest is this game's witty narrative and dialogue. I've never played a game with this much personality in a while.

It's also worth mentioning that this game is super chill with the random enconters. After you fight 20 battles in an area, you'll stop running into enemies. Oversaturation of random encounters was what turned me off from playing these kinds of games.

Definitely a unique and enjoyable experience, worth the buy.

If you read my tiny review of Breath of Death VII, not much has changed in Zeboyd's sophomore offering Cthulu Saves the World. In fact, the systems in play are identical to what we saw in BoDVII, save for a few minor tweaks.

What really changes this time around is the characters and the plot. The cast of Cthulu Saves the World is much more entertaining and the plot more interesting, than the sort of meandering nothingness we saw in Breath of Death. Cthulu is your typical "Oh no, but I'm actually evil" comedic anti-hero out to restore himself to his maximum evil potential after having his powers stripped away from him by a mysterious figure. In order to destroy the world, he's going to have to save it.

This game is... surprisingly very good. It's a steal at such a low price!

I didn't expect much from what seemed like a budgetware rpg title, no matter how infamous the titular name was. But believe it or not, there's some real meat and potatoes to this rpg. Essentially, Cthulu is trying to be a hero to undo a spell cast upon him. Due to the curse's weakening effect that is preventing him from destroying the world, he must redeem himself as a hero to get the chance to be his old self again. He soon meets up with other allies, such as a groupie of all things concerning the ocean, a talking sword, and so on.

The story is surprisingly funny and well written. There's not an over extending amount of dialogue, but enough to get the point across and there's some very amusing chatter by Cthulu (who plays a pompous windbag of an elder god if there ever was one) interacting with his party. The towns are all named after Lovecraft locations and there's numerous references throughout the game that will appeal to fans of his work.

Combat is decently tough. Each round, the enemy does more and more damage, while you can build combos and similarly thrash them. Either way, you must win fights quickly. Cthulu and his party recover after battles quickly, but they can't take a lot of punishment during. Fortunately, you have a fairly wide array of chosen abilities, including the ability to make your enemy insane, so he fights poorly against you. I enjoyed the strategy needed to win some random encounters, although you can certainly just blow through some of them. It can get grindy at times, but it won't be the sort of thing that requires you to spend hours simply leveling up.

There's higher priced RPGs out there on Steam that might look fancier and come from bigger names, but they've got nothing on Cthulu!

As an ardent Lovecraft and RPG fan, I whole-heartedly recommend this game.

If you're familiar with Breath of Death VII, then you already know what this game is like. If you're not, read on...

CSTW is a light-hearted homage to both the classic JRPG's of yesteryear as well as H.P. Lovecrafts work. In this game, you play as Cthulu, cosmic horror supreme, who undergoes a bit of a dilemma: rather than destroying the world, Cthulu is tasked with saving it (hence the name.) Along the way, Cthulu encounters many different characters and locales, many of which are pulled straight from Lovecraft's stories. Some help and join you, while most just want to fight.

As for the core gameplay, it's traditional turn-based RPG fare. You choose your options, watch everything unfold, and go for it again. There are plenty of characters to mix and match for your active party, all of which obtain their own unique skills and abilites. The level-up system from BoDVII is back, giving players a choice in how they want to build their characters upon gaining a level. Simple, but it adds a nice sense of strategy. The good ol' "stand next to a save point and grind out all of the battles in an area until they're gone" strategy is still the best way to break the game, so that's nice.

Overall, the game is fun and quirky. It's not very deep, and especially with the Diablo III's and Skyrim's and WoW's out today, CSTW might seem a little too simple. But RPG's started somewhere and this game does a fine job at looking back lovingly.

If you're a fan of either classic RPG's or Lovecraft, this is a solid buy.

I'm usually easily bored with games quickly. But with this particular game, it's different. Its quirky humour is consistent through the whole game, still keeping it fresh and entertaining. The story is original and the game is easy to play without sacrificing good gameplay. Don't feel put off by the graphics. Because EVERYTHING else makes up for it.
