Well visually nice game, well drawn.. and fresh look at things with that narration. But too much is too much. I had a feeling designers were not sure what to do with this game after half. Story gets just worse and worse after half of the game and also the same with ending. Weapon choice is bad in game.. + ultra strong weapon right before end. What's the point of that? Game felt very very repetitive... Unfortunately can't suggest :(

Well at least music was nice.

Boring, ultra repetative, and more of a story-concept than an actual story. The seeds of a good game might be here, but this isn't it. Wish i could get the hours i spent playing it back.

Very rarely have I played a game with such artistry and insight into the mind of a player.
There's nothing I can say other than: skipping this game is a disservice to you, and to the artistic field of electronic entertainment.

A superb game with an amazing soundtrack and extraordinary artwork. Great characters and unique plot and weapons. If only the game were longer, took me about 8 hours to finish. Great game and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good RPG. Keep up the good work Supergiant Games! I give this game a well-deserved 10/10!

Bastion was a fun 2.5D shoot em up in the beginning, but after a couple hours it gets dull and repetitive. The gameplay and enemies are all the same throughout roughly 6-8 hours. Not too mention the boring narration that does not effectively tell a cohesive story.

I fell off of a lot of edges.
The railroad brought me down time and time again.
I was thwarted by man and wildlife alike.

Sweet, sweet, light post-apocalyptic feeling ARPG. Restoration, betrayal, and genocide. Narrator was fantastic. Art was fantastic. Soundtrack was solidly diverse. Combat is given some weird complaints, but I found it perfectly fine. Someone explain why capslock doesn't let me hit shift to defend (on Mac, at least). Other than that, even kb/m wasn't that bad until I had to play this weird game of hop scotch in a late area and failed to direct myself well. All those lost health pots.

These hours were not wasted.

Gameplay is pretty meh to be completely honest. It's a standard topdown isometric action/adventure dealio.
Now the narrator, that's the real selling point.
Smooth, deep-voiced narrator/10

Would just rage for a while again.
Would fall off the edge again.
Would stop and just listen to the music again.
Would hear "Mother, I'm here" again, and cry. And keep walking. And keep crying while walking.

Would loop time again. And again. And again.

If you don't want to read you can watch the video review which basically says the same.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7owdm5BJ4Y

Bastion is a hack n' slash role playing game, however this game as some really interesting aspects that contrast from other games inside the same genre.

You play as "The Kid" someone that just woke up in the middle of a catastrophe that neither the player nor the character know anything about, however we can count on the strong presence of the Narrator to enlighten us during our adventure.

I want my first point on this review to be exactly about the Narrator, something that really standed out from any game I've ever played. We are used to games which story develops over time with strong interactions between characters, or with the environment however in Bastion, every interaction is very subtle, and that's where the Narrator comes in, as someone telling and unfolding a story and interacting as much with the main character as with the player himself which is awesome. And the developers really hit gold here, since first of all the voice fits perfectly on the western theme that surrounds the game, and at the same time the voice acting is also amazing, since you can feel every emotion which helps create a certain empathy with this being, and that's something fundamental in this story.

Since we're talking about voices and sounds let's jump to the soundtrack, which after the Narrator is the best aspect of the game, since it manages to develop and transform according to the story which is phenomenal. You'll understand what i mean since it's quite rare to hear a soundtrack which contain tracks with lyrics, and even though I think that including something like that is risky since it could break the atmosphere of the game, it does exactly the opposite and traps you even more on this brilliant story.

Now onto the gameplay, this is up to you to decide if it is a good thing or not according to your standards but to me it felt like the combat and exploration is something secondary. Don't get me wrong, the combat is fun and this aspect of the game is very well developed with a big array of weaponry, abilities and upgrades. The developers even managed to make this part of the game more interesting with the fact that all the way to the last part of the game you unlock a new mechanic, however it didn't feel as good as the plot, which was what really kept me going.

The visuals are very interesting, the 2D visuals with the isometric camera really fitted into the style, nevertheless some models seemed quite odd, as an example the main character which on some drawings shows up as someone quite slim, when you look at the model you see someone quite bulky which doesn't make much sense. Same goes for Rucks which the model doesn't look that good either.

Something that also bugged me was the fact that you're being told a story and all of a sudden the game gives you the option to make a couple decisions on the final stage and to me it felt out of place, I think you should be either given more choices to make or none at all. Although i think I'll play this game again someday I can't justify playing the main storyline for 5 hours again just to make a diferent decision at the end and see an alternate ending, but if I had more choices throughout the game I could justify a second playthrough immediately after the first one.

Nonetheless I consider this game to be a master piece, the story is interesting, the length feels just right and the western/badass vibe throughout the game is an amazing experience.

+ Great story;
+ Fun mechanics;
+ Amazing Atmosphere;

- Some models are just ugly;
- Lack of more decisions.

92% cool game!

My oh my this game. I remember hearing about it years ago and I have never forgotten its name ever since. Finally got a chance to get it and play it, love it ever since!!!

The game itself is amazing and well done, from the amazing narrative voice actor basically saying your every action, to the visuals and gameplay (skills, weapons and the Bastion itself). Its defiantly worth getting this game there is defiantly nothing else like it (nothing i know anyway) it’s very unique and extremely enjoyable. It’s a story, action, rpg, 2.5D bundle of awesome. Very enjoyable and rather difficult in some places.

Well deserved 9/10!!!

TL;DR: Buy it. Play it.

I've owned this game for years. I don't know when or where I got it, but it's just been sitting in the abyss that is my unplayed Steam library. I finally got around to playing it and absolutely loved it. The graphics and soundtrack are perfect. The way the story is told is really awesome and fairly unique.

It's not a very long game (I think it took me about 4 hours to finish it). Towards the end of the game I started to feel like it was a bit repetitive, but never once did I want to stop playing. The game is an absolute must-play and is a truly wonderful experience.

One of the best games I've ever played. The hack and slash gameplay is awesome. There's a variety of weapons to use and I love it! The story, art, music, and gameplay are all over 9,000. I've listened to the music of this game even when not playing the game. Supergiant games is amazing. I'm really looking forward to the release of their next game, Pyre, in 2017. You should definitely get this game if you haven't had the chance of playing it yet. I'm super picky about the games I play and I loved this one. Get it!

Hmmm.. Bastion is one of my favorite game. Beautiful graphics(designed by Amir Rao), intresting surreal story and plot(wrtitten by Greg Kasavin), quite casual gameplay, fantastic narration(spoken by Jen Zee) and wonderful soundtrack(composed by Darren Korb). SO much fun. Really unique design - in most places the level creates itself as you walk. Innovative and very visually satisfying. Can only carry two weapons at a time, but it works for the mechanics here, because you can choose which ones are best for the level/enemies you're up against. Soundtrack is great - songs stuck in my head for hours but I don't mind :) The best part of this game though has to be that narrator giving a play by play of everything you do. Especially near the beginning you'll be laughing out loud. What a great time!

Bastion is a hack’n’slay-kind of game, with some rpg elements like upgrading weapons and very light leveling.

It takes place in Caelondia, a city devastated and broken into pieces by a catastrophy called the Calamity. You play as the Kid, trying to fix your world, meeting other survivors and fighting the creatures now inhabiting the other floating parts of the city.
Why I like this game:
  • The Story is great, as is the narration
  • The graphics are marvelous
  • The soundtrack by Darren Korb is just fantastic, emphasizing the atmosphere.
  • You can upgrade your weapons with stuff you find in the city and its surroundings
  • Try to master all weapons on the proving grounds
  • Have I mentioned, that the music is great? Well, it is.
I found the controls to be a bit tricky, but otherwise I really enjoyed playing.

...It's just a beautiful package for the senses

+ Art style
+ Sound design
+ Combat variation

- Rather short (took me 6 hours)
- Can feel slightly repetitive

The game is beautiful, maybe one of the best looking games I've played. It's graphical beauty is matched by the sound design, it's some of the best voice talent/soundtrack I've heard in a game. It's just a beautiful package for the senses but it also plays pretty well with a varied combat system, allowing you to play as you want.

It took me a little while to get into the story but I became curious about the origins of the event in the game, so much so I found it difficult to put the controller down. It's length is a little meagre but offers replayability through a 'new game plus' mode in which your levels, exp and equipment carry over which allows you to play it differently and also a different ending.

If you're into action RPGs, you should give it a go.

A Modern Classic
If there was Five Indie games that everyone should play, bastion would be among those games. The game offers are kickass soundtrack among lots of replayability, with great combat system and variety of different weapons (that you can upgrade and customize) there is plenty to do, whatever its unlocking everything or setting higher records on weapon challenges. Narrator is also pretty badass

Positives
  • Strong Rock/Western Soundtrack that brings unique feel to the game
  • Epic Narrator
  • Lot of replay value
  • Multiple Weapon choices to fit different playstyles
  • Smooth controls and gameplay, it feels very responsive and no complaints there

    Negatives

  • Bit lackluster story
  • I wish the maingame was bit longer

Honestly everyhitn about this game is amazing.
Pros:
-beautiful enviornments
-intersting story
-satisfying combat
-great variety of weapons and other ways to change up your combat style
-amazing soundtrack (build that wall is probably one of the best)
Cons:
-when u get a new weapon you have to use it until you find another arsenal(they usually place one later in the level so it's no big deal)
-2 endings based on one choice so you have to play it twice

Basically this is one of my favorite games and you should definetly give it a try
