I don't think this game is worth anymore than twenty bucks beacuse it is an old port but the game is fun. I enjoy the creativity of this title and the combat very much.

A very entertaining and balanced RTS. It is probably my favourite RTS out there. I find that the home cities/ shipments mechanic really adds a cool dynamic that is completely unique to AoEIII. Each European faction has similar core units (hussars, musketmen, ect) but each has a few unique units and upgrade paths, similar to AoEII. However each of the expansion factions look and play completely unique from the rest of the factions.

9/10 hard AI can be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t sometimes

Great game back in its heyday. Purchased it on a whim when it was under $10 - don't regret it. However, many years after its release, all its shortcomings are glaringly aboundant. Other than specialized civilization units, pretty much every civ plays the same - get a mix of Cavalry, Pikeman, and artillery and hope you have more units than your enemy. I really wish they would come out with a current-gen version that learned from its previous mistakes. It definitely needs a visual overhaul but that's to be expected from a game over a decade old.

Sound issues abound occasionally where the music will stop playing, and the unit voices will be muted. Somewhat of a pain in the ♥♥♥♥ when you're villae is getting attacked and you're concentrating on troop movements with your army elsewhere.

A game from back when RTS games were still riding high, when "base building" wasn't a dirty word and factions were meant to be colourful and fun. It shows its age now, but the core mechanics are still solid.

An unusual characteristic of an RTS was persistency; or how your play affected you in the next game. AOE III had experience gain over time that would unlock "cards", which then could be called into play in a future match. This also came with nice cosmetic upgrades for a "capital" city, which let players really feel that they were leading an army into battle. Sadly these cosmetic upgrades were not in place for Asian or American civilizations in the expansions, although the persistant card unlocks are still present.

The factions are nicely done. The European factions all largely play the same, with some emphasis on artillery, cavalry, or infantry between them. Asian civilizations are also fairly similar, just implementing "wonders" as well as other minor changes. I do like the emphasis on the Americans, who end up playing much more differently as they lack the hard defenses that others do. Overall these different factions make for a high level of replayability.

An old game, but worth the money. Especially since newer quality RTSs are infrequent.

I've been playing these titles since they were released during the late 90s. The soundtrack is pretty relaxing and enjoyable. The Game is just epic, i am happy that the game's had being released on steam.

If you dont own or have this epic, this is a must buy game.

After playing quite a bit. (2 times Full Campaign +2* Expansion Campaign and quite a lot skirmishes.)
I decided to give this game a good review. Game itself is fun. Even solo. The only thing i found to be negative was the Campaign story. Characters , Dialogues , Monologues just made me feel bad. Feels like they are cheap. But thats just my opinion.
I tried Multiplayer. Most of the times 400-1000+ people online in Multiplayer. Problem: Not a lot Newbies, so you might get stomped sometimes. My first game as level 10 was versus 2 level 100+ Dudes. Yeah. But dont be fooled. Good strategic and tactic decision is important here.
