About This Game

ABOUT EMPIRE: TOTAL WAR

Dominate the 18th century on land and sea. Command the seas, control the land, forge a new nation, and conquer the globe. Empire: Total War takes the Total War franchise to the eighteenth century Age of Enlightenment — a time of political upheaval, military advancements, and radical thought, captured in stunning detail in Empire: Total War.
Empire: Total War introduces a host of revolutionary new features, including true 3D naval combat. For the first time in the Total War series, you will be able to intuitively command single ships or vast fleets upon seascapes rich with extraordinary water and weather effects that play a huge role in your eventual glorious success or ignominious defeat. After pummelling your enemy with cannon fire, close in to grapple their ship and prepare to board, taking control of your men as they fight hand-to-hand on the decks of these wooden behemoths.
In addition, Empire: Total War will see further enhancements to the Total War series’ signature 3D battles and turn-based campaign map. Real-time battles will pose new challenges with the addition of cannon and musket, challenging players to master new formations and tactics as a result of the increasing role of gunpowder within warfare. And the Campaign Map — for many, the heart of Total War — introduces a variety of new and upgraded elements, including new systems for Trade, Diplomacy and Espionage with agents; a refined and streamlined UI; improved Advisors; and a vastly extended scope, taking in the riches of India, the turbulence of Europe and, for the first time, the untapped potential of the United States of America.
  • Take command on the high seas. New real-time 3D naval warfare takes Total War's unparalleled battle action to the high seas, with players commanding single ships or vast fleets.
  • Become a founding father. Starting in 1700 — The era of warfare across oceans, revolution and the founding of the United States.
  • All new graphics engine and technology features staggering real-time seascapes, new advanced landscape and flora systems, and dynamic weather.

A great total war game, probably the best one out there. I like how it focuses on the 18th century which makes it unique compared to most total war games. All the nations have their own different army rosters, the campaign covers a fair amount of the world giving you the chance to build your own colonial empire, and the battle maps in this game are some of the most amazing ever made in total war. I highly recommend this for history lovers and stratey game players.

Man what to say about this game.
It's another of this Total War series masterpiece...
This game teached me to love Imperieal warfare era. It's a old game that I still play nowadays. Also it's sucessor Napoleon is a great game but this game offers some great mods and different timeline(playstyle).
I recommend it a lot, and if you are taking a hate for CA about them being a DLC ♥♥♥♥♥ it's your profit for buying and playing ther older games especially now they are cheap.

The only problem would be the not so great Campaign AI. But to fix that there are a lot of mods. I really recomend DarthMOD empire. Makes the game much more realistic/historical and really hard.

Overall 9/10

I am an American, and purchased this while living in Europe. I have spent hours upon hours lost in this game world. It was for me such an amazing experience - my introduction to Steam, the introduction of sea battles in the Total War franchise, the historical period.

It was a step down in some aspects - the "clone" armies vs the unique variations in Medieval II (my favorite Total War to date), the bugs at launch, but the sheer scope and size of it all is absolutely fan-f-ing-tastic. This Total War was the first one that really gave me the feeling of being in control of an alternate history; the leader of a world power.

One of the things that I miss a bit was the length of the battles. It's sad to go into a game of the wonderful Attila, such a step up from Rome II (which almost brought me to tears at launch it was so disappointing), and have two massive armies decimate each other in 10 minutes. I played Empire last night, 2v2, and the battle lasted 45 minutes. Half-way through the battle my teammate and I were winning, and then the French overpowered my overly aggressive enemy without me noticing while I defended against the Cherokee, and in the last 10 minutes our enemies completely overcame us. Such a lengthy, brutal battle is typical in Empire, while most confrontations in Rome II and Attila seem like 10-minute-long skirmishes. +1 for Empire: TW.

Sieges too were a bit disappointing with focus on forts vs towns, but the towns you do get to fight in usually make for exciting urban combat situations.

Overall, not my favorite Total War, but heads-and-shoulders above anything else out there for this time period. Thank you Creative Assembly - you're not perfect, but your games have been my favorite for over a decade.

I've read some terrible reviews of this game- people saying that it's the low point in the series, but I loved it. I thought the theatres of operations idea was great, as were the naval battles. Trade is more important than ever and Allies ACTUALLY HELP YOU. Plus, economic and social development are fun, especially with the town system.

But...

The game doesn't really offer you a challenge. In rome on hard difficulty, everyone attacks you. On this- nope. The AI tactics are broken or non-existent, predictable and easy. Besides, the map looks horrible compared to rome. Also, the ottoman troops are automatically worse than the europeans. Besides, I don't like the fact that all the american indians and the mughals are locked out in campaign.

Overall- fun but not the best of all the TW games.

This is a great game. I only wish it had multiplayer capability. This is one of those rare games where you get to experience how millitary and diplomatic strategies worked in historical times. To anyone just starting the game, I would recommend a mod called Darthmod Total war for Empire total war. It is a complete overhaul and improves on everything. My only complaint is that the map AI is a "little" stupid.

All in all, great game!

This was the last truly awesome Total War game. Sure the naval game is a goofy PITA, but its got sooooo much replayability.
The key thing this game has that the ones coming after didn't is that the factions feel distinct. Your play style is to some extent changed and stretched with each faction you play; you cannot successfully copy and paste the way you play Russia the same way you play Netherlands without serious alterations to your cookie cutter plan.

I only wish Shogun and Rome 2 hadn't let us down and turned the franchise into a glitchy, soulless DLC mill.

Yet another good Total War game. The thing that is innovative about this version is that you are not only limited to europe but you have MURICA and India too,it is Total War X3.the gameplay is very good and the AI is decent,it provides a good challenge. If you are looking for a multiplayer experience i suggest not buying this game because the multiplayer is pretty much dead but this game provides a spectacular singleplayer experience 9.5/10 it is a very good game and a very good sucessor to the Total War franchaise but there are some things that could have been better

It was fun at first but then it just became the same thing over and over again and naval battles are boring and slow and I can't do a beach assult on an harbour because now you have to land your troops somewere else to walk around and then assult the harbour from land but what I wanna do is to see the smoke from the towns and harbours as they are getting bombarded from the cannons on the ships to later send your men out in smaller boats to shore.

How it is know I wouldn't recomend this game

This is a prime example of how NOT to innovate on an already amazing franchise.

My issues,

1. No family tree system
2. Clone armies
3. Extreme lack of diversity among units
4. AI diplomacy is a joke
5. Generals and other characters are impossible to customize
6. The siege battles are all the same
7. Feels impossible to properly manage an overseas colony
8. You are stuck with historical allies, you get punished for trying to change that
9. If you defend during a seige, the AI will either attack with one unit or wait until the timer is gone
10. Immersion is easily broken with the bugs, crashes, and ridiculous voice acting

My praises,

1. Naval battles are very fun
2. Sometimes battles can have an extremly cool aesthitic when all units are firing volleys.
3. Battling with or against the Native Americans is unique
4. The American Independence campaign was entertaining

definately not my favorite total war title but if you like this time period in warfare than you might want to give it a try just the campaighn is very large and complicated
and i think that the game overall need a bit more content in terms of battles online
like how they got rid of 4v4 sige battles
or how there arent any battle were you can have a sea and land battle going on at the same time

Empire: Total War™

Empire is a true Total War game and one of my favourites. It is all about historical gameplay in the 18th century.
It is worth every penny and it really deserves its positive reviews.
It is time for my own review after I got the last achievement in Empire:
(My review is based on the game without mods) [v1.6]

Pro

+ Although the game is from 2009 the graphic ist still good
+ Interesting and nice battlefields: Take cover in buildings, fields, hiding behind walls and fences etc.
+ Unit detail is good and the animations are well made
+ Naval battles need a bit exercise but once you know how it works they are great
+ Huge map (You can fight in North America, a bit in South America, Europe, partly Africa, Russia and India)
+ Trading routes in South Africa, South America and in the Asian regions to boost your income
+ There is a Pirate faction (Caribbean)
+ Fighting with firearms, cannons etc. is a great experience
+ Huge battles
+ Units talk to you in their own language
+ You can place "forts" on the campaign map
+ Technology research is made in universities and divided in more branches
+ You can steal technologies
+ Religion and diplomacy
+ Weather effects
+ Native Americans
+ Armies can destroy important villages etc.
+ Great sound, ambient music = great feeling
+ Revolutions (can create a new faction with its own flag etc.)
+ Historical background information
+ A high replayability due to the whole feeling of this historical era, captured in this detailed game
+ Friendly fire!

Con

- The AI is sometimes gamebreaking bad. It is passive and has a bad pathfinding. Simply, it has often no strategy...
- There is no multiplayer campaign or a co-op mode
- Sieges are, how can I say it... boring, nearly everytime the same sh...
- No general or admiral speeches. I mean, it's an era for heroes and you have nothing to say to motivate us?
- Generals are weak and have no real skills
- Although the naval battles are great, I wish they were more polished if you know what I mean
- Pirate faction unplayable
- The drummers play always the same "marching" sound
- I wish there had been partly a real soundtrack with music of the era
- I miss expeditions in South America and Native factions on that continent
- I'm not sure but slavery in colonies or in general is not existing at all
- Diplomacy is good but it really could have been more than what it is now...
- Friendly fire!

Conclusion

All in all, Empire is a great game. The 18th century is a fresh and interesting era to play. There is a lot to discover and to conquer. Also, there are a lot of interesting mods to install. If you ask me, the game is a must have!
Have fun!

English is not my native language. Grammatical mistakes are possible :D

Best Total War Game

Empire: Total War™ takes place in the 18th century 1700's Although inaccurate Empire territory,
Flags. & musket sounds, SEGA™ delivered on a full scale map with multiple Empires that control a vast amount of territories
that cover 3 continents, Europe, North America & the Caribbean & India The continents can be traversed via the
impecable naval system that can easily give you access to amphibious 18th century cross-continental campaigns.

There is a tutorial section taking place during the American revolutionary war that gives you control over the United States faction, it also has its own campaign that allows you to fight that particular war in its entirety.
Although everyone knows Grand Campaign is where its at
In Grand Campaign
You are given the choice to control muliple Empires in the world map, this includes;
Great Britain, France, Spain, Prussia, Russia, the Ottoman Empire, Sweden, the Dutch Republic, the Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania, the Austrian Empire, plus two factions in India.

This game offers you the challenging task of making the economic, technological, & military decisions, down to the movement of armies & regiments of these Empires in Grand Campaign, with the options to have historical objectives, or world domination. The AI in the Vanilla is extremely difficult. Once war is declared, peace is impossible to sue for unless you have a significant territorial advantage over the enemy, which takes many turns.
Vanilla Empire: Total War™ also has many unfixed bugs with an embarrassing battle interface/visual effect.
I personally recommend that you install a mod created by a dedicated member of the Total War™ community.

Which brings me to the best part of Emire: Total War™
My favourite mod, Darth Mod.
  • Darth Mod re-vamps the game & makes it playable.
  • Changing the visuals of the battles, uniforms.
  • Making the AI more agreeable in Diplomacy Which relates to a hilarious bug.
  • Giving the game a soundtrack more fitting to the time period.
  • Giving you access to amazing x40 unit battles with saved games for every faction.
  • DarthMod gave me 300+ hours of gameplay for Empire: Total War™ and it can be found
  • Here

There are bugs in the game, even for Darth Mod, although the mod offers fixes for them, like the broken diplomacy in the campaign, it creates a new one. This bug is absolutely hilarious. As you choose a major Empire, you will witness the other major powers slice up the map to their will. Defeating one another and crushing smaller nations. One of them decides to make these small nations their Protectorate Which in the game, means this nation has full miltiary access, & will declare war on anyone who declares war on them. This empire is Dagestan
TLDR
Pick up this game if you're a fan of fighting wars on a grand scale in the 1700's.

The year is 1721. I am commaning Sweden on a quest to unite the Baltic coast under one flag. I have already crushed Courland, Denmark, and Poland-Lithuania, and Prussia will soon fall. The government is as strong as ever, and with skilled generals at my side, nobody in Europe can stop me! Then, the Russians try and provoke a war by stationing troops near my border. But, their confidence will be their downfall. With my influence stretching from the most remote Norwegian peaks to the fields of Bohemia, I am a true empire!

10/10 best strategy game I have ever played.

As a person who plays a lot of strategy games like Total War Rome II and Sid Meier's Civilization 5, I would rate this game at a solid 9.5/10. Although the game doesn't haved up to date graphics, it still looks amazing! The naval battles are a reason why I keep playing this game. They seem so realistic and the battle mechanics in general are amazing. All in all if you are a fan of Grand Strategy then this game should be in your collection.
