This has been a favorite for a long time. It's not like anything else I've ever played. The first timeI booted it up was during college winter break in 2011. I spent the majority of those 2 weeks playing this game and I love it! My boyfriend was able to find a crack/patch or something that makes it work, because I see a lot of the negative reviews come from people who can't get the game to work. I totally understand your frustration.

EA/Origin is THE. WORST. I have been in a hell battle with them for years. I am a HUGE Sims lover, always have been since the very first release. But as soon as Origin entered the picture, everything went haywire and I truly believe the entity known as "Origin" is a manifestation of the dark lord Lucifer on earth.

So normally I wouldn't touch a Sims game again, recoiling from fear and memories of trauma, but it's through Steam so I gave it a shot. Of course, whatever hex Origin put on me kept the game from launching. Boyfriend found a thing, like i said and it works fine. So if you can find a thing for it, you'll be fine. Just google it, you'll find it if you look hard enough. It took us a while.

Yeah, like many of the other people, I could never get it to work. I would have loved to play it, but it would always just say it was running but never actually open. I even tried downloading it in Origin and it didn't work.

I've tried for months to activate this game, It keeps telling me that the code is invalid but it was meant to be a new unused code but since it was gifted to me i don't know if it could've been used beforehand.
I've seen this problem on steam, origin and even EA so just save yourself the hassle and forget this game exists.

Short Version: Total Disappointment, Don't Waste Your Money!
Longer Version: I have a Windows 10 Laptop and the game wouldn't even start up. The play time steam says i have is not actual play time. It was time spent trying to get it to work but it never did. The game always said it was running when nothing was happening and it wouldn't let me launch the game because steam thought it was already running. Very disappointed because I heard great things about this game. I just can't recomend it on steam.

Despite running into problems trying to run the game on Windows 10, I have found the game quite enjoyable. It adds an RPG element to Sims and there are many things about this game to enjoy. One of my favourite aspects of this game is the music. I absolutely love it!

If you run into problems with running the game, the solution is quite simple:
1) If you installed the game through Steam, uninstall it.
2) Login to your origin and register the game using the CD key steam gives you upon purchase.
3) Download and install the game through Origin.

Sadly, the Pirates and Nobles DLC is not working, but they recommend making a case to get it fixed. I have yet to do so, but that's what I've read in forums.

Okay so this game is amazing and highly addictive. You will never run out of things to do. Yeah its a pain in the butt to install but its totally worth it and I am here to help. I read through the comments before purchasing to learn how to install it. I had a lot of difficulty considering I had to read through them all comment by comment and still couldnt get it to download because some steps were left out.

So heres what I did.

1.- Download the sims from steam.
2.- Open your sims download through steam and write down your registration code.
3.- Go to https://www.thesims3.com/register.html If you dont already have one.
4. Create a login, password, username.
5. Go to https://www.thesims3.com/registeragame.html and type out the code provided from the steam download.

Heres where it gets fun.

For users who dont have an origin account you must then go to https://www.origin.com/en-us/download
Download Origin [which is basically EA'S STEAM]

While that downloads go to-

https://signin.ea.com/p/web2/create?execution=e2005779475s1&initref=https%3A%2F%2Faccounts.ea.com%3A443%2Fconnect%2Fauth%3Fredirect_uri%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.origin.com%252Foauth%252Flogin%253Flpu%253Dtrue%2526ru%253D%252Fen-us%252Fdownload%253Flogin%253DWyIiXQ%253D%253D%26locale%3Den_US%26display%3Dweb2%252Fcreate%26response_type%3Dcode%26client_id%3Dlive.origin.com#panel-splash

And creat a login.

Once logged in and Origin is completely downloaded open it up and find 'My Games' section.
So now heres where I got super confused while reading peoples comments.
You should see the sims there. Everyone here was saying to right click and choose repair but that option is not available at this point yet.
What you need to do is go into your computer and find the steamapps file.
Create a folder on your desktop and copy all of the sims files to that folder.
Once fully copied, deleted all files for the sims in the steam apps file.
Restart Origins
Once Origins is reopened go to 'My Games' once again and the sims should still be there.
You either have install the sims option or if you try to right click now you should have the repair option.
Do which ever is available.
I downloaded the sims and then repaired it and ran it perfectly well. In fact I am running it as I type this review.
I hope I didnt miss any details but if I did, feel free to add me and I can help you out.
Oh one small details is that while running the sims through Origin, it will not display on steam that you are playing it. Thats the only thing I dont like.

Again I will say this game is amazingly fun good for all gamer types and levels. Seriously recommend it.

If you think The Sims Medieval is a bad game YOU'RE SADLY MISTAKEN! It's a brilliant game taking you back to the days of old and adventure and wonder. To a time where hardwork meant something, you take on the role of a King or Queen and start building your nation from the ground up. Turning it into a wondeful Kingdom for years to come.

You can also become a great Knight, Blacksmith, Doctor, Preacher, Trader, Bared and Magician. Basically you'll have a high renown for any of these jobs you take on and help build up a great country. This is exactly the game for you espically if you love these olden times of sword fights and adventure.

I admit it, I read the negative reviews, but they were mostly concerned with the game not running on Windows 8. Since I have a Win7 machine and it looked good enough at a friend's computer I decided to give it a try despite the warnings. Since I only shelved out a couple of bucks, because of a sale I thought it was worth a try.
What I soon found out and what the reviews are also about now is that the activation code does not work because of an old, derelict DRM software that locks out legit customers who bought the game legitimately.#
Good job when the pirates can play a game that people who bought it with their own money cannot. It seems a solution is to register the game over at Origin. However I refuse to have another DRM besides Steam on my machine. What is the point buying it on Steam when you either need to register it on Origin or go down the not-so-legal alley.
STAY AWAY!!!!!!!

ORIGINAL REVIEW: 24/12/2015
As an avid Sims fan, it pains me to write a negative review of a Sims game. I'm not down-voting this game because it doesn't live up to my standards, I'm down-voting because I cannot get it to run due to my CD KEY's being invalid and this has something to do with DRM. It is a sad day when you are an avid Sim fan and cannot play one of the games you have always wanted. Steam should remove this title from the store since it no longer works.

UPDATED REVIEW: 16/04/2016
I have fixed the problem by taking Skully’s advice. I have also created a guide to help those users whom still want to play the game, but use the Steam Overlay.

GAME FIXES
So I took Skully's help and it seemed to work. Register your game on the Sims 3 site and then uninstall the game from steam. Go to origin and install it there. To use Steam overlay simply add a non-steam game as origin.exe.

!MOST SIMPLE WAY TO RUN ON WINDOWS 8 ONWARDS!

I initially couldn't get the game to run properly, and tried everything I could find on Google and nothing worked... But... I did find that if you run the TSM.exe in the game files the game will boot and run perfectly. No needing to mess around with CD codes, uninstalling and reinstalling or loading through Origin. I had this game when it first came out and I've wanted it again for a while, and I really enjoy it... So if the only thing putting you off getting this game is the fact that Windows 8 onwards doesn't agree with it, just try this, and if it doesn't work you can always get a refund... Running the .exe worked for me, and it is how I told my boyfriend to try and run it and it worked for him too. If you really want the steam overlay in game just add the .exe as a non steam game to your library.

My son has this game and I've seen him play it in the past so I decided to get myself a copy since its on sale. I didn't read the reviews about the lack of ability to use this game on steam since I didn't need reviews to know I wanted this game. It seems back when he got it, the authentication still worked so when I saw it on sale and purchased it for myself I didn't think anything of it. Upon doing so I realized the game is basically broken on steam and you have to use origin. If I wanted to use origin I would have bought it directly from them. Refunded the game, uninterested in using anything other than steam. I'm not even mad at steam since its EA that won't update and support their own games (shocker). Though I do think steam should write there on the product page that this is the case. It was a hassle trying to figure out why it wouldn't accept my product key. Time wasted from lack of transparency here.

For me the game did not launch in Steam. It tries to activate and fails. However I had no trouble registering the key on the sims website to my existing account. Then the game appeared in the Origin launcher. Note that you need to delete the local content in Steam to be able to download and launch from Origin.

This is not a typical The Sims game. Especially if you're used to Sims3.
However, it is pretty awesome in its own right.
There are different interactions and you can see your actions play out on a whole different scale than you usually would in Sims3. Reading some of the negative reviews, people seem to expect it to be just another Sims3 reskinned and I don't see how that would be interesting?
I enjoy it as it is.

Sucks that you can really only get this to work through Origin but it's really addicting! More quest and story-based than a typical Sims game, but just as fun. Sort of like a simpler, but more evolved version of The Guild series, and a lot easier to play for hours on end, like most Sims games!

I would recommend this game just because I think it's kind of fun, silly, and unusual. While I'm welll aware this game probably only appeals to a very select number of players (those who enjoy the Sims games and rpgs), it still has a lot to offer in terms of gameplay. The customization, and freedom that simmers have come to take for granted, is very limited, but the storyline is actually kind of entertaining. If you're looking for an open world medieval themed game then you will be disappointed, but as a fan of rpgs and the sims, I had a lot of fun.

Second of all, I would like to address many of the technical concerns surrounding this game. At least in my case, this game did not work through Steam. I did some desperate research trying to get it to work, and someone recommended installing it through origin using the serial code. I tried to register the game through Origin as a last ditch effort, and it worked. Origin told me to register through the Sims 3 store (which doesn't make sense because it's NOT a Sims 3 game). I put in the serial code through the sims 3 website, and the game was downloaded to the Origin library, I have also heard that the game does not work on Windows 8 operating systems, but I can't verify if that's true because I don't have windows 8.
I would not recommend buying this at full price (considering the possibility of technical difficulties). As of the date of my posting, this item was on sale for $3.39.

(((!!!OBS!!!)))
!ATTENTION!

FIRST OF: If you think this is a bad game, then go ahead and vote it down, but if you have problems running the game, downvoting the game is *not* fair to the game, nor the people who has never played it and actually want to play it!

If you find that you have a problem launching the game, then try to actually *read* the discussions regarding the game and try and read some commends and you *WILL* find that there *IS* a solution to this problem!
I had the exact same launching problem as many of you have, while running it on Windows 8/8.1. But I actually tried to find a solution to this by *reading*. There are many topics regarding this problem if you just take a few seconds to look.
I followed the steps from this topic: https://steamcommunity.com/app/102820/discussions/0/648814845292513057/;
And I can now play my game.

Now. To anyone who have yet to play this game: This is a very intertaining game, if you like the style and I would recommend it to anyone who likes this genre! I personally love this game and find it incredibly entertaining. There is a lot of things to do and a ton of funny content. Though note, that this isn't like The Sims 3 -- not quite, at least. It is more challenging in some ways and makes you play with different Sims though the quests. Getting the Pirates and Nobles DLC is highly recommended, as it adds more quests, expands the world and adds more NPC's, more clothes and traits.
The only bad thing I have to say about this game, really is that you cannot "birdview" the houses nor can you rotate around the house and that if your Sim's path is blocked, it will not tell you what blocks it's path. That being said. This game is so much fun and if you -- like me -- have played the series since the very first The Sims game, then don't let yourself miss out on this one! :)

This is a game that I both enjoy, and dislike simultaneously. I enjoy it because of the great medieval theme involved here, and the creative way you add to your kingdom, make new characters, and some of the fun interactions and capabilities of the characters.

While this game is a nicely themed re-envisionment of the Sims franchise, it does have some downfalls. The main one being it's not as free and open as the Sims franchise has been known for. The only time you get to actually play the game, is during a quest. The quests provide nice motivation for your characters, like saving the town, thinning the thieves, or maybe hunting down the source of all those goblins. But you must make progress on your quests or a magical constable comes and arrests you and puts you in the stocks for a few days. I found this kind of rediculous and immersion breaking, as well as completely negating the whole 'free and open' style the Sims had from the beginning.

You are not free and open to do what you like in this game, you must progress on the quest or have consequences. The basic needs have also been twiddled around, there are less of them, and the personality trait system has been truncated. The character motives now affect how well you can succeed at anything you attempt to do, and also affect quest progress and success/failure. It's actually difficult, and somewhat dissatisfying to try and balance the needs, daily living, and progress on the quest simulatenously.

It does, however, have it's charm and is still an enjoyable game, which is why I still recommend it. The primary purpose for this review is to give people information they need to make a better informed buying decision, knowing that this game is far more structured then the rest of the franchise is. With this in mind, if you are looking for the classic Sims experience in the Medieval era, this is not your game. If, however, you would enjoy being faced with puzzles, challenging quests, and gradually building up your kingdom through questing and careful management of one (or more, depending on the quest) character's lives, while still progressing regularly on the quest as much as possible, then you will find this game interesting. This game seems more directed at people who want less open and free style gaming, and are more interested in adhering to their chosen quest line and taking on the challenge.

The decision is up to you, it's still a good game, just not quite in the way the rest of the Sims franchise is. I personally haven't found myself playing it as muc has I thought I would, I keep finding other games more interesting, but I do enjoy it when I get around to playing it.
