About This Game

Seven classic games in one collection. Celebrate the golden age of adventure games all over again with the return of King's Quest.
  • The bravest knight in all of Daventry, Sir Graham, is appointed by the dying king to embark on a Quest for the Crown. By retrieving the three treasures of Daventry, he will not only save the land but become its king.
  • Now the ruler of Daventry, King Graham sees a vision of a beautiful woman trapped in a tower. Romancing the Throne won't be easy with mermen and vampires separating him from his imprisoned bride.
  • A young apprentice to an evil wizard must escape his captor or be faced with certain death. Upon the discovery that he is the long-lost son of the royal family, young prince Alexander learns that To Heir is Human.
  • King Graham lies on the brink of death and only a magical fruit from a far off land can heal him. The Perils of Rosella pit evil fairies and fearsome foes against the brave princess as she fights to save her father.
  • Returning home one day to find the castle missing, King Graham must don his famous adventurer's cap once more to find his family. Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder and Graham must learn a little magic of his own to rescue his loved ones from an evil spell.
  • Haunted by the memory of the kidnapped princess who helped his family escape the malevolent wizard Mordack, Alexander learns of a plot to force the beautiful Cassima to marry an evil Vizier. Sworn to protect the woman who saved his life, Alexander takes to the Green Isles in Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow.
  • Rebellious Rosella is content to be The Princeless Bride, but her adventurous spirit may lead to a marriage to the King of the Trolls. With the help of her mother, Queen Valanice, Rosella must end a plot to destroy the land of Eldritch and find her own happy ending.

Dose of nostalgia. Loved the sierra adventure games when I was younger. I hope to see more on steam in the future.

How to Get KQ Collection Working on Windows 7

Download this patch:

http://www.sierrahelp.com/Files/Patches/KingsQuest/KQCollectionDBUpdate.exe

Set it to install to "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\King's Quest Collection" or wherever Steam saved your KQ Collection files.

This program will patch the Steam version of KQ Collection to run through Dos box, and I can confirm it makes the game a joy to run on Win 7 64bit.

Cons:

* You will have to run the game through the Dosbox shortcuts that the patch creates; the Steam launcher won't work.

* Your in-game mouse cursor will become black and white where it is otherwise colored.

Great blast from the past.

Most of the people who do not recommend this game are saying it is unplayable or does not work. If they would read the store page or knew how to use google to find the fix their review would be more positive.

Classic game that has such replayablity... I played this as a little munchkin and I still love it today.

Not sure why people complain; have tried this on Windows 7 (disabled DEP) and works fine. It uses DOSBox to run the original game files. So if you experience issues you could easily replace the DOSBox binary. A nice collection, comparable to the GOG version (which is offered as three different items).

I have more or less only played kings quest 7 (as I played it in my youth) to an extent to say that it is a really good, funny and a charming game, the others I have started to try and as far they are really funny.
I had also a few problems at first like that the colors were strange if you wanted to play the games in full screen or I was just unable to play the game. But I found this site and downloaded the patch and now everything is working as far as I have tried. I can start all of the games and play them in fullscreen with no problem :)

Hope it works for you guys so you can enjoy this wonderful game series.

Why is this even for sale still? Windows XP, 32-bit, only. An out of support operating system required to play it reliably. Why not just sell the original DOS versions instead?

Same applies to Space Quest collection and the Doom releases....

Warning. Has MAJOR compatibility issues on Windows 7, most Kings Quests if not all here are completely unplayable, bought this off GOG and they all work fine.

Such an amazing trip to nostalgia land. I picked up the Space Quest collection as well. There is a common graphical error (pink, green, lines, etc.) that is easily fixed without downloading anything from sierrahelp (my computer thought that download was a virus, anywho). I am not entirely sure if it is localized to Windows 7 or what, but my machine is running Windows 7 64-bit and I got the horrible pink/green/lines overload and thought I had just wasted my money, but a little digging and I fixed it quickly and easily, so I shared the fix on the discussions.

Check the discussions for the easy fix and don't rob yourself of this incredible throwback experience.

A jaunt back to an admittably frustrating period in my childhood, a return to the King's Quest franchise reminds me that modern adventure games, be they ever so complex, could not possibly be as mind-bogglingly frustrating as some of the games in this series. It's fun to look back, but I don't know that these games would be particularly palatable to a younger audience, and there's a LOT of 'mother may I' throughout the series.

Some sort of technical issue is preventing me from playing anything before 4, but I will give a callout to the series for having a strong, relatable female protagonist in 4.

Works like a dream on my Window's XP <3

Window's 7 however it is completely useless.

But seeing as it works good on my main computer, I will have to say I am very satisfied with this :3

Kings Quest 7, which is why I bought this, doesn't work. All the rest look like complete garbage. Steam will be refunding this purchase.

I played these all when I was a kid. I wouldn't buy full price as many of the games dont run well on newer windows versions and modern graphics. However if there is a decent sale 60-90% off I would recommend.

KQ 1-4 are old school VGA with text interface. I would recommend you just download and play the AGDI remakes (which are free and prettier, none for KQ4).

KQ5 is the first with the pretty 90s 256-VGA graphics, although this version has an annoying voice acted script without text. This is frustrating because when you want to move quickly from one interaction to the next it is faster to read a textbox then listen to the lame voice acting. Even modern games like Skyrim etc. appreciate this and always have a text option.

KQ6 is great, the best of the series IMO. Excellent plot with fun characters and a challenging set of puzzles, nice 256 VGA graphics, text box.

KQ7 is lame, the classic VGA graphics are replaced with disney-esque cartoons and very buggy. You need to go online to find workarounds for a couple of the puzzles that don't work right.

Overall, very nostalgic and enjoyable to play, but wouldnt pay more than 5$ for because of compatability issues.

This port is rushed, incomplete and a pathetic attempt to cash in on a brilliant franchise while doing nothing to preserve its legacy. The color palatte is horrible, audio glitches abound, and the FMV looks even worse than it did 15 years ago. Steam normally does not dissapoint but this is one of the laziest releases they have ever put out and in its current form absolutely not even worth the $10 price tag
